LOCATIONAround St Ives’ harbour are ancient winding streets and fisherman’s cottages running away from the main street where there are thriving restaurants, art galleries and specialist shops. A short walk from the property access on to the South West Coast Path and one of the most rugged and scenically beautifully stretches of north Cornish coast right at your doorstep.

St Ives is incredibly picturesque with buildings nudging the shoreline, little cobbled streets meandering around the centre, startling blue sea and perfect golden sand. The town has a bustling and cosmopolitan atmosphere where restaurants serve fresh fish landed in the harbour. There are cafés, art galleries and studios everywhere with the Tate St Ives forming the focal point for this art loving community.

St Ives enjoys a mild climate where winter frosts are rare, the air is exceptionally clean coming straight in off the Atlantic Ocean and the clarity of light is considered to be amongst the best in Britain. The area is known for surfing with Porthmeor Beach being the main surf beach although Porthminster and other beaches around the 4 mile wide St Ives Bay means that no matter what the swell and wind direction, there is always a wave to be found.

St Ives has its own branch railway line which links to the main Penzance to London Paddington Line giving simple access throughout the county and to London. On the outskirts of town is a supermarket and St Ives has a full range of schooling as well as professional and commercial services.

Beach 50 yards away

DESCRIPTIONThe Tide House is believed to have its origins circa 1540 and is discreetly located on Skidden Hill. Although it has a particularly elegant and broad façade of granite below a slate roof and rendered first floor elevation, with numerous symmetrically spaces sash windows, it neatly hides the extent of the internal space behind the front door. Not only does the circa 4,300sq.ft. of accommodation provide plentiful living and bedrooms but it is also exquisitely crafted retaining original features such as internal granite walls mixing them with contemporary extremely tasteful design and high quality craftsmanship.

One could not want for more living space especially as the lounge, kitchen/dining room and family room are all semi open-plan to each other creating a space of about 50’ long overall by 21’ wide all handsomely lit by an extensive glazed section of wall on the south west elevation which folds back to allow the courtyard garden to interact with the interior. In addition there is a more intimate snug sitting room off the large reception hall. The ground floor also contains a double bedroom suite, laundry and wc.

The bedroom accommodation is no less dramatic, with two of the double bedrooms on this floor facing out over the sea. The other two double bedrooms really are very impressive as they are under very high vaulted ceilings with internal staircases rising up to mezzanines that have been used as children’s bedroom areas. All of these four bedrooms have their own individually styled en-suite bath/shower rooms and there is also a further children’s bedroom or study on this floor.

The top floor is entirely given over to one enormous triple aspect suite with spellbinding views and its own south facing terrace. An en-suite bath/shower room also enjoys the outlook and allows this to be either the master bedroom or a further top floor lounge. The wings at the rear of the house face to the south and open onto the landscaped courtyard garden with frameless glass balconies wrapping around above. Concealed areas house space for storage of surfboards etc as well as bins and recycling.

For those searching for the pinnacle property in Old Town St Ives then The Tide House must surely meet the brief due to its simple approach by car, overwhelming amount of space, evident high quality of workmanship and its proximity to the harbourfront as well as Porthminster beach and the railway station which are each about 250 yards away.
