How can I measure the progress of my students throughout the year?

How does ReadyGEN prepare students for next generation assessment challenges without “teaching to the test?”?

ReadyGEN provides various assessment opportunities to monitor student progress toward college and career readiness. Due to the heightened expectations students will face on the next generation of assessments, assessment formats need to move beyond short, objective multiple choice type tests. The assessments developed for ReadyGEN are more comprehensive to provide a holistic picture of student progress.

The Three Step assessment plan is easy to follow to measure student progress throughout the year.

Step 1

The Baseline Assessment evaluates student proficiency in foundational skills, listening and reading comprehension, vocabulary, and writing.

Beginning of the Year Assessments

The Beginning of Year Fluency Test and Running Record measure students’ oral reading rate and oral reading accuracy. This information paired with the Baseline Assessment helps teachers determine students on grade level, those who need more support, and those who could benefit from greater challenges.

The Reader’s and Writer’s Journal provides opportunities to practice Benchmark Vocabulary and write in response to reading. Teachers use these pages to help assess students’ understanding of key vocabulary and key ideas as a tool to monitor their progress toward the Performance-Based Assessment.

Assessments for Every Lesson

Practice and Apply Keystones allow teachers to assess student understanding of key text structures and key ideas.

Writing Keystone Checklists provide a quick look at students’ strengths and weaknesses in the focus writing type – opinion, narrative, or informative.

The Performance -Based Assessment at the end of each module is the engine that drives all tasks and promotes positive outcomes by allowing students to connect their learning through reading, writing, and exploring text.

Step 3End-of-Unit Assessments End- of- Unit Assessments, which allow teachers to assess student progress in reading, vocabulary analysis, and writing, are modeled after expectations for new assessments.
