Seed production, dissemination and development for improvement of crop quality is an essential part of the agri-

business sector. Seed research is most-ly administered by government agen-

cies such as the Department of Agricul-ture and Philippine Coconut Authority.

SEEDS

Credit-lending corporations allow access of capital for new entrants in the agribusiness sector. These corporations

and organizations include agri-based cooperatives and banks which offer

loans for farmers and other agribusiness players.

CREDIT

MACHINERY

Machinery and technological advancement are one of the key

factors to achieving technical efficiency in the production of agricultural and agribusiness

products.

Pesticides and fertilizers, together with other yield-enhancing inputs are almost mandatory to the com-mercial production of agricultural

crops. These inputs are often produced by agricultural research

institutions.

CHEMICAL INPUTS

Farmers are individuals who produce agricultural crops for public consumption. They may opt to form cooperatives, farm clusters, and establish connections with larger institutions through contract growing

and/ or partnerships. FARMER

Includes the transfer of com-modities from the producers to

the market where they are bought by the end consumers.

Transport services are very essential during the

production-to-storage part of the chain where the shelf life

SECTOR

Involves wholesal-ers, direct buyers,

and household con-sumers who buy/

gather the agricultur-al commodities direct

from the farmers.

BUYER

Processors add value to the products which results to new appearances and attributes of

the products, with added price to the consumers. Processing of

the products may be primary or secondary before they are purchased in the market.

Agricultural cooperatives provide financial security for the members and also secure the

market of the members’ produce. Furthermore, these

type of cooperatives are able to send their produce in larger markets to compete with the

other producers which they can’t compete with individually.

Any organization or institu-tional structure which

engage in research and extension activities to further contribute in the existing body of knowledge in Agribusiness. These institutions include the academe, research journals,

and government agencies.

RESEARCH INSTITUTIONS

A part of the support subsystem where farmers and other players in the chain are given seminars and public trainings on how to improve their efficiency in producing their

desired commodities. Furthermore, this is where farmers are educated in preventing losses in their production.

These are agencies who act by regulating the distribution and price-setting of various agricultural commodities to ensure that the market is not

influenced by outliers.

These are businessmen who facilitate and provide venue for
