C We confess that we have turned away from you, knowingly and unknowingly. We have wandered from your resurrection life. We have strayed from your love for all people. Have mercy on us and turn us back to you, O God. Give us new hearts and right spirits, that we may find what is pleasing to you and live in your presence forever. Amen.

P Here is God’s good news: God turns to you in love. All your sin is forgiven in the name of Jesus Christ, who is the free and abounding gift of God’s grace for you.

C Amen.

Affirmation of Faith C I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator

of heaven and earth. I believe in Jesus Christ, God's only Son, our

Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried; he descended to the dead. On the third day he rose again; he ascended into

heaven, he is seated at the right hand of the Father, and he will come to judge the living and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.

Meal

Because offerings are a significant part of our worship and they enable the ministries of our congregation, many members part icipate in an electronic giving program called SIMPLY GIVING and we have recently launched a new program for credit/debit giving called GivePlus, through our website, gslutheran.org. If you have questions or would like to take part in this offering opportunity, please speak to a Stewardship Committee member or contact the GSLC office.

Offering

Prayers of Intercession

A Turning our hearts to God who is gracious and merciful, we pray for the church, the world, and all who are in need.

A brief silence.

A God of living water, send your church beyond boundaries to proclaim your grace.

C May its witness be a source of refreshment for thirsty souls. Strengthen our voices, that all people can know and believe that Jesus is truly the savior of the world.

A God of living water, protect from pollution or misuse all rivers, lakes, oceans, and streams.

C Bless the work of those who advocate for access to clean water, that all people and animals have enough to drink.

A God of living water, open the hearts of leaders and authorities, that they hear the cries of the suffering and act with compassion toward them.

C Bring peace to disputed lands and bring reconciliation to people divided by race, culture, or nationality.

P God of living water, mend the hearts of those who grieve broken relationships, whether by conflict, abuse, divorce, or death. Assure those questioning your presence in the midst of doubt or suffering. Draw near to all who are ill. Bless all those in need of your grace-filled presence, including those on our continuing prayers list and…

A God of living water, renew us in the promises of baptism.

C Join us together in worship, fellowship, and sharing your good news. Embolden us to serve others and to work for justice and peace.

A According to your steadfast love, O God, hear these and all our prayers as we commend them to you; through Christ our Lord.

C Amen.

Invitation to Communion

P God’s love is poured out in Christ for you. Open yourselves to receive it.

When giving the bread and cup, the communion ministers say:

The body of Christ, given for you. The blood of Christ, shed for you. and each person may respond: Amen.

All are invited to come and receive the real presence of Christ in the sacrament.

Follow the directions of the ushers, who will release you from your rows toward the center aisle. Come forward and kneel at the altar railing. If you wish to commune, extend your hand to the pastor, who will place a wafer in your hand. Receive the red wine or white grape juice by individual glass.

Those who do not wish to take communion are invited to come forward for a blessing. Please indicate this by crossing your arms over your chest.

Return to your seats by the side aisle.

Words of Institution & Lord’s Prayer P Lord remember us in your kingdom and teach us

to pray:

C Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever and ever.

Amen.

Lent 2020 During our forty-day preparation for Easter, we will spend the season of Lent in “self-examination and repentance,

prayer and fasting, sacrificial giving and works of love—strengthened by the gifts of word and sacrament.” [Sundays and Seasons] To help us achieve those worthy goals, we will gather for weekly worship each Wednesday (12 noon and 7:30 p.m.). Our theme for our Wednesday services will be “GO FORTH,” based on the Ash Wednesday Dismissal:

Go forth into the world to serve God with gladness; be of good courage; hold fast to that which is good; render to no one evil for evil; strengthen the fainthearted; support the weak; help the afflicted; honor all people; love and serve God, rejoicing in the power of the Holy Spirit.

Each Wednesday we will consider these aspects of who we are called to be and what we are called to do as followers of the crucified and risen Lord Jesus.

40 DAYS OF GIVING—ELCA World Hunger GSLC will be participating in the ELCA World Hunger 40 Days of Giving campaign during the Lenten season. We have a limited number of “coin boxes” (one per family please) on the table at Sign Up Central. If you feel you need a larger container for your coins, we will also be providing coin jar wrappers.

Winter Health Protocol and COVID-19, Coronavirus

Due to the significant concerns regarding the flu in our state and country, we have instituted our annual winter

Additionally, Pastor Paul will not shake hands as he greets you at the door after each service. Let’s keep each other as healthy as possible. Visit our website for more detailed information regarding this situation.
