Dear families, Many thanks for your attention to the all-important annual update. We now have 100% of our updates completed and I want to thank you for your attention to this. The annual update ensures that we have your accurate and updated contact and permission information if there should be an emergency here at school, along with several other items that used to come in the mail. I look forward to seeing many of you in the hallways for conferences next Wednesday and Thursday, October 17-18. Teachers should have sent out reminder letters, as many of you self-selected conference times at Meet the Teacher Night. Please try to be prompt, as most of our teachers have very tight schedules, and one late meeting sets all of them back for the night. Thank you in advance to Dana Kaufman and her hospitality committee for providing dinner for our teachers on those evenings, and also for Mary Scott and Megan Beers for chairing our annual bookfair which will take place next week. The bookfair will be open during conference nights, and also for students during the day. “Boo-grams” or short Halloween messages sold by our Student Ambassadors, will also be available for purchase during conference evenings. Many of you will remember the Bright Bytes survey we took last spring. Our district goals are to improve our student’s “digital citizenship” through lessons based on this data. As you can see in the trend below, our students in grades 3-5 have not really been learning about how to share information online This is one of the items our teachers will continue to emphasize as they begin to teach the digital citizenship lessons
Have a wonderful weekend! Regards, Mrs. Karen Trunk

For the security of all, please do
not allow anyone to “piggy-
back” when you either enter or
exit the building. It is district
policy that all visitors announce their name
and purpose prior to admittance to a
building. A polite statement would be
something to the effect of, “I’m sorry.
Please buzz the office for admittance into
the building.” We appreciate everyone’s
diligence in this matter. Thank you!
Vision Statement IV: Provide a safe and secure environment in which students can grow academically and socially.
As part of our District Strategic Plan, Mentor Public Schools seeks to ensure the safety of students and staff in our buildings. As part of our district safety plan, every building completes at least one “Lock Down” drill each year. These unannounced drills, in addition to the regularly scheduled fire and tornado drills can be frightening for younger students as they begin their school experience. Please take a few moments to talk to your young child about safety and security at school. The adults in the buildings take their job of keeping students safe very seriously; as always, if you have any questions please contact your school principal.
NO IDLE ZONE!
Parents, please remember that the
sidewalk in front of the school is a Fire Lane
with no parking or stopping. If you are
dropping off for We Care, please park your
car in a legal parking space and walk your
children in. If you are dropping off before the
start of school, please pull up to the open
space in the black fence and Mr. Phillips will
assist students who are exiting vehicles.
Thank you so much for your
cooperation.

Orchard Hollow School General Information
A Dismissal Reminder: Please know that there is no
supervision for those students who leave the building
without an adult, also known as “walkers.” There is
no crossing guard for those students walking into the
Pinegate Neighborhood. We understand that many
students are met by an adult at the sidewalk;
however, in the event there is a mix-up or a circumstance causing
a delay, the children may be walking home alone. This is quite
concerning, especially for our youngest students. Students
designated as “Pick-Ups” do not leave the building without an
authorized adult signing them out. You may change your child’s
dismissal at any time by sending in a note to your child’s teacher.

Dear Parents: When sending in
cash money to the school, please take special care to write both
your child’s first AND last name,
the teacher’s name and the purpose of the money on the envelope to ensure that the
correct account is being credited. We
appreciate your cooperation with this matter. Thank you.
