The Parts

For retrofitting to a 4900 bhp rated TB5000, new swirler cones, flame tubes and extensions are required for the combustion system.

The cooling air for the first stage CT blades is routed through holes in the quadrants, hence the uprate requires the retrofit of new bladed quadrants.

The abradable seals of the second stage are fitted via a ‘T’ slot in the stator ring, hence the retrofit of a new stator ring will be required.

Compressor Cleaning

Early TB5000 gas turbines were fitted with a dry solids compressor cleaning system.

Due to the nature of the cooled blades required for the uprate, the cooling holes would become blocked with solids, defeating the cooling system. It is therefore essential that a fluid wash system is retrofitted.

When requesting a quote for a TB5000 uprate, please advise if a fluid wash system is already fitted.

Limitations

Whilst the TB5000 can be uprated to provide up to 5400 bhp output, the following points should be noted:

Limitations of the driven unit

Limitations of the gearbox and coupling

When requesting details or a quotation for a TB5000 uprate, please quote the turbine serial number to enable us to check the engine details.

For a quotation of further details, please contact your local Siemens Industrial Turbomachinery Ltd representative.

Performance

The increase in power attained by uprating from 4900 bhp is 5200 bhp for liquid fuel engines, and 5400 bhp for gas fuel engines, subject to gas fuel analysis.

Dual fuel engines are rated respective to the fuel used.
