From the President’s Desk
Well here it is, June, half way through another year with a lot to reflect upon for 2013 but more importantly, things to look forward to in the next half. As far as I can see he Club has done many enjoyable things and seen some great spots by driving our cars to the various locations about the District which is what I see we should use our cars for. Let’s keep this up so more enjoyment can be derived from the old cars and our friends within the Club. I reflect upon the organisation of the Club and how we, the Committee, are trying to keep it stable and a going concern. It might seem a little tedious when we speak of the need to keep up with legal requirements at meetings, things like the Constitution, the Statement of Objects and the use of our cars but I have to take my hat off to Alan Early in his never ending quest to ensure our Club and you, the members, are protected by the Law and Fair Trading. Alan spends much of his own time researching the changes to the Laws, he also watches and follows up on concerns raised by other Clubs to see if any of our practices need altering to stop us going down the wrong track as a Club. We may be small, we may be insular but we are not immune nor protected from any finger-pointing or complaint if something goes wrong so that is why what Alan does makes it very important for us all. I appreciate how he submits to me any proposal accompanied by supporting documentation for the Committee to make an informed decision. We hope that the decisions made when presented to members have been simplified yet easily understood when they go before a meeting and that you will accept them for their value. Being President of TVCC is a great honor and comes with a fair amount of work but being Secretary involves more, so again, thanks Alan. I will not let you forget that Lyn as Treasurer also does a fantastic job not only in front of the meetings but at home, in the bank and in Committee meetings that goes unnoticed by most. If the books don’t balance the Club will fall over but thanks to Lyn this has not and will not happen. Good one Lyn. Greg Campbell 2/6/13
I recently came across an advertisement for the traveler who has everything

BELATED MOTHERS DAY RUN – 19th
MAY 2013
After some magnificent weather we struck an overcast rather coolish day for our belated
Mothers Day run. It was at Jill’s place and Chesty and his helpers were superb in providing a
remarkable morning tea. The helpers comprised both family and Club members. and the sausage
rolls, scones, jam, cream, cakes, biscuits, tea, coffee, the whole lot couldn’t have been better.
After morning tea the 33 Club members who attended drove off for a run to Loomberah and
Farrer, and back to Chesty’s for a Club sponsored BBQ lunch.
It would be remiss not to mention the following which is tendered with the utmost respect. There are some people who were uncomfortable at going to Jill’s so soon after her passing, and
that is understandable. But I think Chesty summed it up by insisting that the morning tea and
lunch is exactly what Jill would have wanted. Jill was not the type to expect anyone to mull
around in a gloomy, morbid, depressed state. Continuing with a long history of Mothers Day
morning teas, visiting Jill’s might be viewed as a testimonial, remembrance, memorial, whatever
you remember it as, it’s an acknowledgement of the wishes of a very special person.

It was also National Heritage Motoring Day which is about promoting the historic car
movement and generating interest in the restoration of historic vehicles.

FEATURE ARTICLE – ALAN & MAREE EARLY’S 1933 DODGE
The “blue Dodge” as it has become known started in America with the chassis and running gear.
This was shipped to Adelaide where T J Richards built the body, and the completed new car was
then sold by Harden & Johnston in Sydney. It was driven around Sydney by various owners for
30 years before ‘retirement’ in the North Ryde district, and was unearthed during building
demolitions in the early 1970’s. Luckily it was saved from the scrap yard by interested workers.
Restoration followed with the car painted green, and it was rebuilt in the 1990’s and painted
blue.
It is designated a KC series and in America all KC Dodges were light trucks. This Dodge has the
light truck chassis, but a sports coupe body and this combination makes it something of a rare
bird.
It is powered by a 6 cylinder engine of 3302 cc (same capacity as the red Holden motors), and
designed to cruise at 50 m.p.h. where you get 22 – 24 m.p.g. Gears are 3 speed with no
syncromesh, and brakes are of a very early hydraulic nature.
So enough of all that clinical stuff – what’s it like out on the open road? Well that light truck
chassis might sound tough and strong and it is, so you are guaranteed of a firm ride. For those
following behind that wandering over the road isn’t the result of sloppy steering or driver brain
fade, its just finding the smoothest part of the road and avoiding the holes. Either that or get
your gizzard shaken out. The leather on the bench seat is of very good quality, and when dressed
is exceptionally smooth which you find all about when you get to the first corner.
The motor was recently rebuilt and with good mechanicals the vehicle is reliable for long
distances. However the sports coupe body limits luggage space. After all, it was designed for
taking your girlfriend away for a good weekend, not as a family hack. It attracts a fair bit of
attention and filling it up with petrol can be a time consuming affair. Like 5 minutes to fill it up
and 15 minutes answering onlookers questions. And if you want to open the bonnet and check
the oil allow another 15 minutes.
All in all, it’s a good vehicle and provides plenty of fun, especially for occupants in the dicky
seat!
Before restoration After
And what of the 1924 Dodge? Its still being restored and you might see it about in 12 months.
Alan Early.

Look who has a new Holden.
Terry and Lyn Archer recently added this machine to the garage, a little larger than the MGB.
Run report to Gunnedah model trains. Our April run was to Gunnedah on the 21st and it was another good day. On time 11 cars left the car park and met 3 others plus a visitor at Gunnedah for morning tea.
After this necessary stop we visited 141 Barnes Street and looked at the impressive display of model trains that Don McDonagh has in his front yard. Don gave us a run down on his trains, they are ‘Q’ gauge and initially came from the shop his family owned in the main street and were a Christmas display in the windows. Don enjoys showing off his display and indicated
that in the years they have been out only twice have they been vandalised.
After Gerard Ryan thanked Don for his hospitality (incidentally finding out they were related) we headed to the Rotary Park lookout, aptly named ‘Pensioners Hill Reserve’. This park was well presented with a great view out over the township. It had a number of stone carvings representing the history of the District and its aboriginal heritage. They told a story as you walked through them.

Registrar Annual Fees.
Please be reminded that the fees for membership remain the same this year, that is $35 for family membership (child up to 18 years) and $1 joining fee. They are due by the end of July and must be paid to have voting rights at the AGM. Our Treasurer Lyn has requested that if possible can you pay her with the correct amount; cash is preferred as it doesn’t attract bank fees, and try not to all pay at the same time to make it easier for her. Thanks

Apparently this could be the result of Global warming when we cut down to many trees!
Could this ever happen?
An engineer dies and reports to the Pearly
Gates. Saint Peter checks his dossier and,
not seeing his name there, accidentally
sends him to Hell.
It doesn't take long before the engineer
becomes rather dissatisfied with the level of
comfort in Hell.
He soon begins to design and build
improvements. Shortly thereafter, Hell has
air conditioning, flush toilets and escalators.
Needless to say, the engineer is a pretty
popular guy.
One day, God calls Satan and says with a
sneer: "So, how are things in Hell?"
Satan replies: "Hey, things are going great.
We've got air conditioning, flush toilets, and
escalators .and there's no telling what this
engineer is going to come up with next."
"What!" God exclaims: "You've got an
engineer? That's a mistake, he should never
have been sent to Hell. Send him to me."
"Not a chance," Satan replies: "I like having
an engineer on the staff, and I'm keeping
him!" God insists: "Send him back, or I'll
sue!" Satan laughs uproariously and
answers: "Yeah, right. And where are you
going to get a lawyer?"
FOR SALE.
Carl Casson has his 1928 Model A Ford for
sale, regrettable the combined age of the
driver and car is becoming too big so one
has to go.
The car has been restored for some years but
still looks pretty good. It runs very well
and comes with a heap of spares including
running gear and a spare motor.
Carl said you could drive it anywhere
without a problem. If you are interested at
$21,000 or near offer ring Carl on
67659456. On Club plates which are not
transferrable.
June Pie Run.
This month Chesty and Roly took us for a
drive to the old Bunning’s store which is
rapidly becoming the sale headquarters of
Audi, SsangYong, Peugeot and Suzuki. We
were shown around the building by the site
manager John Dawes. The building has
undergone a major transformation and the
Audi section is to Audi’s requirements, air
10
conditioned etc. etc. After going through
the site most members headed to Shopping
World for pie and peas before heading
home.
Attending the run was Terry Archer –
Holden, Cliff & Phil Bird – modern, Greg
Campbell – modern, Carl & Beryl Casson –
modern, Brian & Warren Chesterfield –
Holden, Michael Crawley & Mary – Jag,
Alan & Maree Early – Dodge, Roly & Trish
Morgan – modern, John & Marilyn Smith –
modern. We also had Peter Rice come
along for a look, Peter has returned to
Tamworth and is looking to join our Club,
he has a Humber Snipe on the road and an
old Ambulance to be done up in the future.
2013 NORTH WEST RALLY
GUNNEDAH 8-10TH
JUNE 2013
Gunnedah Vintage Vehicle Club hosted a
very successful rally with 50 vehicles from
12 different clubs. Participants from our
Club were Roly & Trish – Buick, Lionel &
Gwen – Futura, Greg & Margaret – MGB,
Alan & Maree – Dodge, Carl & Beryl –
Holden, Terry & Lyn – Holden, Neal and
Bruce – Rover and Cliff & Phyllis –
Chrysler.
Headquarters for the rally was the
Gunnedah Rural Museum which houses a
large array of historical items as well as
some old vehicles owned by Gunnedah club
members.
Clear skies prevailed for registration on
Saturday, and also the run on Sunday which
took us to a private collection of rural
memorabilia for morning tea. The
collection belongs to Chris Burgess who is a
member of Gunnedah Club.
Chris has some old bikes in one corner.
The collection is well set out in his old
woolshed. All the walls are lined with
items including Tonka toys, tins, signs,
branding irons and on the floor is a couple
of old Singer vehicles and numerous
stationary engines, beautifully restored.

If you had ‘an axe to grind’ have a look in
this room.
A drive through the Emerald Hill area to
Water Ways Animal Park for lunch and a
visit to the new Pensioners Hill look out
before finishing back in Gunnedah.
The evening functions went off well with a
very entertaining short performance by the
Gunnedah Band on Saturday night and
presentation dinner on Sunday night. Roly
and Trish Morgan picked up the best post
war trophy for their 1949 Buick
Convertible. Talk amongst friends was then
what occurred, it was so intense that the
new Member for New England, Adam
Marshall, slipped in and spoke with his
friends from the Band and slipped out
without being noticed by many. Adam is a
keen supporter of the Band and thought they
had a performance on but missed by one
day.
It was good to see wide selection of cars
involved in the rally which ranged from a
1918 Hudson to a 1978 Kingswood, plus 4
Singers and a Goggomobile Dart.
Congratulations to the Gunnedah Club for a
well-staged event, they tried hard to reduce
the work load on members by utilising
various catering groups, the CWA did
morning and afternoon teas, Westpac
Rescue Helicopter supporters did lunch,
Gunnedah Band did evening meals and the
Rural Museum group did breakfast on
Monday. I asked the Rally Committee did
it help reduce the work and did it reduce the
stress level, their answer was Yes and No.
No matter what you do there is still a lot of
work in organising a Rally.
Namoi Valley Antique Vehicle Club at
Narrabri is preparing to host the 2014 rally,
and it is hoped that the Moree Motor
Enthusiasts Club will be able to bring
Moree back into the loop for the 2015 rally.

A couple of funny photos
Bob & Lyn Hession rock Cooli Rock
At the start of June Bob and Lyn Hession
cleaned up the Chevy, put some seat belts
on the front seats to stop sliding around the
corners and put a heap of fuel in the tank to
head off for a week on the Gold Coast.
They booked in at Coolangatta and headed
for the Cooli Rock shows. Bob says that
about 2000 cars had entered for the week -
long event, anything in any condition made
before 1966 I think he said was the vehicles
allowed.
On the first weekend there were shows and
then different runs during the week with a
big procession to finish off.
This one appears I original condition
Here Bob & Lyn Chevy sits in with others
Again here is another original car.
Both Bob & Lyn had a great time and state
its well worth the trip but the traffic is
terrible. Asked if going back again next
year Bob said there will be domestics as
Lyn wants to go to the North West Rally at
Narrabri.
