CHILDREN AND YOUTH PROGRAM Weekly Program is offered for K-6th grade. Grades 7th –12th remain in worship every week.
A Leadership Program is available for grades 7th-12th to help with the Sunday Morning Program. Youth must Pre-Register to be a leader.
During our worship service, a slide will indicate that children and youth (leaders) may depart for morning program. After worship, parents can meet with their children in Sponsler Hall.
Parents with infants and small children:
Currently we are unable to offer childcare or educational classes for
children less than four years of age. We invite young families to re-
main in worship and use our break room if needed, which is located
near the front doors.
You are still able to see and hear the worship service!
There are baby changing tables in the bathroom in sanctuary near the entrance and in the education wing of Sponsler Hall.

Gnosticism: Nag Hammadi to Gospel of Judas
The three centuries following the death of Jesus were
a momentous and turbulent era in Western religious
thought. During this time, as Christianity began its
massive ascent, distancing itself from paganism and
Judaism, other important currents of religious belief
appeared, in what became an epoch of intense theo-
logical conflict and debate.
In this age of burgeoning faith, few if any influences
on the theological landscape were as significant or
far-reaching as the religious movements known to us
as Gnosticism. Gnosticism, one of the most fascinating
and perplexing phenomena in Western religious histo-
ry, intersected deeply with early Christian thought,
sparking religious ideologies that competed with the
theological thinking that came to define Christianity.
And, though Gnosticism was eventually branded as
heretical by the emerging orthodox church, the
church formed many of its most central doctrines in
response to Gnostic ideas.
But what was Gnosticism? Why did its ideas and my-
thology appeal to so many people? How did it influ-
ence other faiths, including Judaism, Christianity and
Islam? And why did Christianity— while showing clear
signs of Gnostic influence—condemn it?
This course takes on these provocative questions and
more, in a narrative that unfolds as an enthralling reli-
gious detective story—penetrating the mysteries of a
stigmatized yet profoundly important legacy of reli-
gious thought.

LENTEN EMPHASES AND SERVICES
Lent begins on Valentine’s Day with an Ash
Wednesday service at 7 p.m. This is a season of
forty days (not counting Sundays) leading us to
Easter morning. It is historically a time of reflec-
tion and repentance (changing of one’s ways) and
some use this time to engage in various spiritual
disciplines: fasting, meditating, and devotional
readings of scriptures and other materials.
Last year we offered a Sunday evening series fo-
cused upon some of those disciplines. This year
Sunday evening opportunities will also be
offered with a simple dinner of soup and bread
at 6 p.m. followed by explorations of faith stories
from 6:30 to 7:30. We are calling it: “This Is My
Story. This Is My Song.”
Each Sunday one or two folk will share their story,
a kind of spiritual autobiography. Some of these
will be CBCC members or sojourners, and a few
others may be by people outside of our immedi-
ate community. You will get a chance to engage in
conversations about how different people experi-
ence the Holy, and how that may have impacted
their life choices. I refrain from using the word
testimony because it has negative baggage for
some.
We hope you choose to come and invite your
neighbors. If you would be willing to share in this
Lenten experience, please let Ed know pronto.
As we journey farther into Lent we will enter the
week of passion. There will be worship opportuni-
ties on Maundy Thursday, March 29th and Good
Friday, March 30th.
Activities:
Florida Seminole Heritage Presentation, Understanding Prison Ministry, and a Labyrinth Worship Experience!

More things are wrought by prayer than this world dreams
of. Wherefore let thy voice . . . Rise like a fountain for me
night and day. For what are men better than sheep or
goats . . .That nourish a blind life within the brain. If,
knowing God, they lift not hands in prayer . . . Both for
themselves and those who call them friends, For so the
whole round earth is every way. Bound by gold chains
about the feet of God . ~ Sir Alfred Tennyson Submitted by Mary Mace
The UCC is a welcoming,
justice-minded Christian community. At a time when religion is too often portrayed as
narrow-minded and exclusive, many are raising their
VOICES for an alternate vision:
Here God is all-loving and inclusive
Where the Church of Jesus Christ welcomes and accepts everyone as they are.
Where your mind is nourished
as much as your soul
Where Jesus the healer meets Jesus the revolutionary
Where together we grow a just and peaceful world from UCC God is Still Speaking Website
