The House of the Stuart’sThe house of Stuart ruled

England, Scotland, and Ireland from 1603 until 1714. They ruled during the English Civil War as well as The Restoration period of Charles 11.

Upon the death of Queen Elizabeth 1 in 1603, the English throne passed to The House of Stuart.

Continued Linked to The House of Tudor through

Mary, Queen of Scots, and her grandmother, Margaret Tudor, The House of Stuart would rule England and Scotland for many years.

Born in 1566, the first Stuart King, James became at one year old, upon forced abdication of his mother, Mary, Queen of Scots. (same as other)

James, the first King of Scots In 1603, James inherited the throne of

England when his cousin Queen Elizabeth 1 died.

James traveled south to England, where he remained most of his life. He never took to the lavish English court, preferring to dress simply and hunt. He married Anne of Denmark and had three children. He died in 1625 (same as other)

WilliamAlthough the Stuarts had lost the throne,

the dynasty continued in the person of James 11’s son, James Francis Edward(1688-1766), and his grandsons, one of whom was Charles Edward Stuart.

William was not a healthy child, small, and thin, with a slightly hunched back, he suffered badly from asthma all his life. (Same as other)

William was left alone On a visit to England after The

Restoration of his brother, Charles 11, his mother got smallpox and died there.

Being left alone at his early age, he developed a strong sense of self reliance.

Anne, the new QueenWhen Anne gave birth to a baby girl, no

one would have guessed that she would be the next ruler of their English throne.
