Colony ProjectRoom 205By Bryan Bell, Kenneth Iman, Jason Burgess, Atiana Frink, and Kenyatta GibsonThe Story of New Gracelyn How New Gracelyn was Founded New Gracelyn was founded when Jean Sauvignon and his family of 6 were being persecuted for their Baptist beliefs. They then got 44 other French and English Baptists to set sail to the new world. They sailed on the boat Liberator. Liberator arrived at Sussex Point after midnight on June 24, 1629.

Supplies Brought on the TripThe supplies brought on the Liberator were:1 ton lumber500 gallons of water100 sets of clothing3,000 feet of rope100 gallons of beer1,000 lbs of gunpowder100 muskets75 axes, pickaxes, shovels, and spades

100 skillets, pot, kettles, pans1,000 pieces of Cutlery60 full armor sets400 sets of food

First Months at New GracelynThe first months at New Gracelyn were very tough. Food was scarce. No plants or food were found on the barren land. The colonists found the flower of life, which could heal and revive any dead animal or human. Colonists found a bird, the pijioto, which helped it find needed fish to eat. They were helped by the native tribe, the Ankweta. The colonists also ate berries, found water, made bread, harvested fruit, and discovered the flower of life.

NOTE: The flower of life was an important plant of New Gracelyn. It could heal and revive dead animals/humans.Animal of New GracelynThe colony animal of New Gracelyn is the Growlith. Growliths are very rare and they were first found in the mountain region. Their diet is composed of fish, deer, and dead animal carcasses. Growliths can be tamed as pets, but only at a young age.

Colonial Laws and Rules

LAWSA curfew is observed at 11 oclock each night; none shall pass outside without a soldier.Fighting between other citizens shall not be allowed.Public drinking is outlawed.On Mardi Gras, laws I-III are not in effect.Every citizen shall be respected by every other citizen.No citizen shall commit acts of murder.

PUNISHMENTSIf laws 1,2,& 3 shall be broken, the offenders shall be whipped 10 times. Law VI shall be punishable by hanging or firing squad.New Gracelyn has a mix of French and English culture and customs. Mardi Gras, Easter, Exploration Day, and Christmas are very important holidays. Last but not least, there is Lord Edwards Day. This day is celebrated for when Lord Edwards defeated the French king Brionne.Exploration Day is celebrated by drinking being permitted, fighting, and no curfews, as like on Mardi Gras. The national anthem is Turn Down for What.Culture and CustomsNew Gracelyn has a flourishing economy. It is partners with the colony of Ravelo in trading. Some things that are traded are:the twisty-treeguns and weapons, etc. Other materials in New Gracelyn are gold, diamonds, firestone, and darkstone. Firestone is a mineral that can be turned into fire, and darkstone is a very rare mineral which allows the bearer to have special magic properties. Darkstone only grows and appears once a year.The twisty tree is a very flexible plant. If used in buildings, it can withstand a storm.

Since last year, New Gracelyn has enjoyed much prosperity and strength. The natives are getting along with the colonists. Here we have lots of happiness. In this time we are looking forward to become much more than a settlement. In the following paragraph we will explain to you our requests.Upon delivery of this letter, please consider granting New Gracelyn a charter to finally become a colony. More success will be unlocked when this step is reached. New Gracelyn will be a valuable asset of yours.
