AMAZING BUSINESS WOMAN OLIVE STEIN UNVEILS HER LATEST VENTURE TO THE PUBLIC.

The moment you have been waiting for is finally here. This is the first edition of the brand new newspaper, ‘The Station Reporter’, from Portal Press. Reporters arrived at the newly formed Portal Press on Monday morning and were greeted by their new boss, Editor-in-Chief, Olive Stein, via a live video call from her office in NYC. After a tense moment of wondering if the technology would work, Olive finally spoke to Editor Layton and the new reporters.

Olive welcomed the new reporters and talked about her

vision for the newspaper. She spoke of her desire to conquer the world of newspapers as she had the world of TV.

Stein, who has roots in Bedlington Station, bought out the troubled TV studio, Station Studios 2 years ago. She revitalised the station’s

flagship show, ‘Portal’ and turned the fortunes of of the studio around. This is a success she is keen to repeat with Portal Press.

Stein’s first step on her action plan has been to recruit a dynamic team of young reporters. The new reporters appeared eager to get started while talking to Olive via video link.

When Editior Layton asked Stein how the reporters would know what she wanted them to report on, she was excited to explain to the reporters about her new reporter website. The ‘scoop site’ has been designed exclusively for reporters at Portal Press.

Continues inside.

A Big Court Case!Aristocrat Lady Penelope in shock after theft. The court case began in controversy this week as witnesses were called but without a defendant! The judge made a decision to withhold the identity of the suspect until a later date to make sure it’s a fair trial. See the full story inside.

Continued from page 1Olive Stein’s quest for world domination.By Portal Press

Speaking earlier today Olive Stein said “The scoop site, designed specifically for Portal Press, will hopefully give my new reporters the best chance of getting the exclusive scoops and award winning stories that I want ‘The Station Reporter’ to be associated with”.

High hopes indeed, though of course with her track record of business success, if anyone is able to make Portal Press a success it is Stein. Stein went on to comment, “Of course these days you never quite know where you stand with newspapers, lots of dodgy business going on, but I can promise that Portal Press will not be run like that and ‘The Station Report’ will be be a paper you can trust!”

At the end of her address to her new reporters Olive wished them luck and reinforced her message of ‘we’re all in this together’. The reporters headed back to their new Press Offices to check out the ‘Scoop Site’ and start to work on the first edition of ‘The Station Reporter’.

“I want to conquer the world of newspapers just like I did in the world of television. I have a vision of a media empire that spans across the seas. Olive Stein

Last Tuesday, Lady Penelope Smithe, woke up to find out that someone had broken into her house and taken something very expensive and precious to her. Lying on the floor was her broken jewellery box and the beautiful necklace that was inside was nowhere to be seen! The court case began this week. In court Lady Penelope, dressed in a brown fur coat, blue dress with yellow flowers and a big pink hat, explained how she hurried downstairs to call the police. As she got to the phone she saw a big figure running away from her house. Lady Penelope, of the Northumberland Smithes, called the police and they told her to wait for them to arrive. She told the court that while she waited she spotted something on the floor. The court was then shown exhibit A, photographs of muddy footprints both inside and outside her house. Lady Penelope then recalled how she followed to footprints which led to a pile of a brown thick stuff. She did not know what it was.

Lady Penelope brushed her long blonde wavy hair out of her eyes as she spoke to

the court about the moment the police arrived. "I was so frightened that when the policeman came to the door I jumped into his arms!" The court then heard from PC Plodd, who spoke about the brown, thick stuff. "I didn't know what it was, so I put some in a jar to be tested". The policeman also said that they caught someone but the judge said that their identity would be revealed later. Our reporters will be following this case

closely. They believe that the thick, brown stuff is in fact mud, because of the muddy footprints. They have expanded their investigations to find out more about mud. Check back in next week's edition for an update on the court case.

Mmmm! Chocolate Mud Pie! But which is best? There is nothing yummier than a delicious chocolate cake, but which is the nicest? We are here to help, and even though it’s a tough job, reporters in Press Office W agreed to test 2 chocolate cake mixes to see which was best. One supermarket brand brownie mix and one premium, TV chef mix. Our reporters

followed the instructions, baked the cakes and tasted them both. Each of our 30 reporters voted for the best and therefore each cake mix could score 30 stars for each section. First of all our reporters scored the

cake mixes on how easy they were to make. The supermarket brand mix only needed water to be added and so was very easy to mix, but the other TV chef brand had more ingredients to add. The next rating was given for which cake

the reporters wanted to eat by just looking at it. The final rating was for the tastiest cake. Check out the scores over there >>>>>

On Monday 27th February 2012, Press Offices 1 and 2 were lucky enough to interview a real life reporter called Katie Wright. She told us she became a reporter at the age of only 15. She writes articles for the Journal, the Sun, the Chronicle and sometime the Metro. Amazing or what? “My favourite part about being a reporter is all the free stuff I get to try out before I write my articles,” laughed Katie. Trying out games for Fenwicks, a huge department store in Newcastle, is one of her favourite things at Christmas time.

Katie has interviewed a few famous people since becoming a reporter, such as Matt Baker. She interviews people across the North East but does not need to

travel the world for her job. When a Press Office 2 reporter asked “What do you need to do to be a good reporter?”, she replied “enjoy reading and writing and lots of it!”

All about Antarctica: A Case StudyBy Press Office 3Antarctica is a fascinating place. It is right at the very bottom of the world at the south pole. To get there you will have to travel 12,000 miles by airplane with skis on the bottom instead of wheels so that it can land. Airplanes only land on Antarctica once a week.

In Antarctica it is very cold and temperatures can get as low as -80 degrees. It is not only one of the coldest places in the world, but it is also one of the windiest. During the winter months it stays dark all day and in the summer it stays light.

Animals that can be found in Antarctica include penguins. They huddle in big groups to keep warm in the cold weather. They have wings but cannot fly. Whales can also be found in the water around Antarctica

Teacher Heads to IceHow will she cope?By Press Office 3Teacher at Bedlington Station First School, Mrs Rozgowska is going to Antarctica to research the effects of pollution on the environment on the 12th of March. She will travel by an airplane that has skis on the bottom instead of wheels. Mrs Rozgowska have to wear comfy, soft clothes like gloves, hats and fluffy shoes.

Out there in Antarctica, she might see animals like seals, killer whales, penguins and snowy owls. Wolves and arctic foxes are rare and might be more difficult to find.

The temperature in Antarctica can get as low as -80 degrees celsius. There are over 400 lakes beneath the ice of Antarctica which she may get a chance to see.

Animals such as penguins which live there must be tough to survive in the cold, and have a thick layer of blubber to keep them warm. There are 16 different types of penguin. They have a long beak, have wings but they cannot fly. They are very good swimmers. Only the female penguin goes out to fetch food for the baby whilst the male looks after the baby. The female penguin feeds its baby by regurgitating the food it has collected. The male and female sometimes swap roles when looking after their baby.

Mrs Rozgowska will need to eat lots of sweets such as chocolate and Haribo’s to give her energy and help her keep her body warm. If she does not keep her body warm she could get frostbite and her toes, fingers and nose could turn black and drop off.

The Queen to visit Acorn Press

Acorn Journalists have been busy drawing pictures and writing letters to the queen asking her to visit the office and collect her splendid cloak. the Queen replied that she will be delighted to visit on Tuesday 6th March. The journalists in the press office are now busy getting ready for the Queens visit.

The queen is delighted we have finished her cloak and is looking forward to trying it on. However she has some alarming news for the journalists.

A trunk containing all her knickers is lost - apparently it has been mixed up with a picnic hamper. A request has been made to make some new knickers that would be suitable for the Jubilee celebrations.

Acorn Journalists immediately came up with some good ideas - unfortunately they are so busy getting ready for the Queen’s visit they will need to work on their designs in the evening with the help of their families.

It has been decided that on Monday March 5th

all designs will be collected and examined and the most interesting and appropriate designs will be used to create the Queen’s celebration knickers. Results will be reported upon next week in the Station Reporter.Meanwhile Acorn reporters are busy

making the Queen’s visit a success.

Flags are ready to be hoisted at Windsor castle - just opposite Acorn Press Office and in the throne room the new throne is being tested while enjoying cups of tea.

Diamond Jubilee CelebrationsBy Acorn Press

On Monday Acorn Press received a message from her majesty the Queen.

She informed Acorn Press that this year she will be celebrating her Diamond Jubilee - 60 years on the throne. She asked the Journalists in Acorn office for help. She needs something to keep her warm as she travels down the Thames on her Royal Barge. The Journalists set to work and after much discussion they decided that a cloak would keep her warm but her beautiful dress could still be seen.

Fabric was found but journalists thought it a bit boring for a Queen so they used different fabrics - different colours and textures to create a stunning cloak with a diamond design for her to wear. They hope the Queen will be delighted with the end results.

Balaclava Boys by George Layton This is a story about a boy who wanted a balaclava so he could be part of the gang and

join the balaclava boys. He found a balaclava in the school cloak room and is faced with the dilemma of whether to steal it but he doesn’t want to get into trouble. I liked the issues and dilemmas. I didn’t like the part where he got one of his own because he didn’t deserve it. I would give this story five stars.(Review by Dylan Cook)

Sam’s Duck by Michael Morpurgo Sam goes to a farm for a week and saves a duck that was going to be

eaten. His dilemma is what to do with it. He hides it in his bag and takes it home. We liked the part where the duck quacks on the bus on the way home and nearly gives the game away.We would give this story 3 stars out of five. (Review by Press Office 4)

Two years ago I started pony club with my horse Tommy.

I was quite scared when I started because there were a lot of people I didn’t know. First of all they told me I was cantering. That was my number one fear I couldn’t get over! But after a while I got the hang of it and I got more confidence.

Next they told me I was jumping - the thing I lived. I’d say I went over the same jump twenty times. I’m in the highest group as Pegasus where I ride. I

have to wear special pants called jodhpurs.

I really enjoy the club because there’s a range of different things to do. I think our readers should try this!

Champion Kick Boxer heads to Canada By Emily Condie

World Championships await.Press office 4 interviewed Robbie, champ kick boxer for

England today, the 27th February 2012. Robbie, 8 will be going to Canada as he is 3rd in the

league junior for England in kick boxing. The interviewer asked “What will you do when you go to

Canada?” Robbie replied confidently, “I’ll have to fight Canadian people, other days will be just like a normal holiday, and one day I’m even going to see Niagra Falls! I’m going for 8 days with my Grandad. My Mam says it’s shocking that she isn’t going.” We were impressed.

“How did you get started?” he replied: “I was only 3, coming on 4 and I saw a sign at ASDA and enjoyed. I’ve been going ever since.” We said “Impressive! How many trophies do you have?” he thought, counting on his fingers “9, but we rarely get them.”

“Cool, what belts have you got?” he replied: “Brown in kick boxing and black in karate.” Did you know that black belts are the highest?

“What’s your current title?” he screwed up his face, in deep thought. “Kick boxing…… Champion, British Junior Title. It sounds pretty extreme!” He raised his eyebrows as if no big deal. “Who trains you?” He said: “Well I go to East Meets West and Gaz, Yvonne and Caron teaches me.”

We thanked him: “Well thank you, Robbie, we all know what it’s like to be you, don’t we?!” The answer to that is: Difficult!
