WELCOME

n Dear ReadersI am pleased once again to be providing the introduction to our latest What’s On Guide. The Stag Community Arts Centre continues to provide a varied and exciting programme for the coming months. The Stag has very quickly established itself as the place to be for Pantomime, Comedy, Musical Theatre and Classical Events it is also pleased to be enabling the current trend for Folk Music to be more available. In addition to the scheduled event I would like to draw your attention to our youth provision, we hold the Stag Youth Theatre on Monday nights and during school holidays. Once a month we now hold ‘Soundwaves’ an Under 18 Live

Music Night – this has already proved very popular. For the younger age group we have ‘Story telling’ on a Tuesday afternoon in the café.I would also like to remind you that your name can become an integral part of the theatre now – that is if you would like to sponsor a seat.In these difficult economic times I am pleased to report that the Stag Community Arts Centre continues to be successful and consistently performing above target. My continued thanks for this goes to the Trustees, Staff, Volunteers, Promoters and local businesses who enable this to happen.

THE YARDBIRDS

By now, everyone knows the Yardbirds legend, if not their music – they were the bridge between the white R ‘n’ B of early 60s London and the pastures of fuzz-toned psychedelia and power-chorded heavy metal of the 70s. Yes, the Yardbirds laid the groundwork for rock guitar as we know it.

STAG ART GALLERY WALL

The Stag, as its name suggests, is a Community Arts Centre and welcomes all genres of art and works within an equal opportunity remit. The Stag Art Gallery Wall on the first floor is available to visiting artists to display framed work. The area is 6m x 2.2m and each artist can exhibit for a period of three weeks. Further information is available on our website www.stagsevenoaks.co.uk

THE SEVENOAKS VISUAL ARTS FORUM

SVAF is an artist-led initiative with 50+ members. It exists to serve the artists and makers who have a connection with the Sevenoaks area, but you are also welcome if there is no Forum in your area. It offers artists an opportunity to talk about their work, support each other, discuss, network and make new friends. Most meetings feature a speaker or a presentation of work. Coming to a meeting doesn’t mean that an artist has to discuss their work as SVAF do understand that some artists prefer just to listen. SVAF extends a warm welcome to artists at all stages of their career including art students. Annual membership is currently £12. This takes place in The Stag Bar Room from 7pm to 9pm on the first Tuesday every month Contact [email protected] for information

Some choose a regular weekly event, others pick and choose from a variety of different activities and some prefer to work behind the scenes helping with administration and maintenance. Volunteers need to be over 16.

HOW DO I BEGIN?We will be holding monthly events where you can come along for an informal chat and meet our Volunteer Coordinators or email [email protected]
