NEWSLETTER I VOL 2 I Feb 2018

Welcome to the year 2018! This is our year and we all have to work towards making the changes spoken about in the previous issue. Just talking about change does not bring change - it has to be a focussed and concerted team

effort. There has to be a progressive plan which must be adhered to, at all times. In the long list that we have given ourselves, there are some things that are already underway and a few things that are yet to begin. In order of priority, I would say, internal changes are more urgent than external ones — these changes will help us achieve our desired goals. One of the most important goals that I personally want all of us to focus on, is to achieve the tag of ‘Employer of Choice’ in the coming months… Yes, it is easier said than done. However, if we are determined to bring about internal changes, this target will be ours! When one sets out to achieve a target, one needs a roadmap – a guide to tell us what to do, when to do it and how to do it. Similarly, in order to become ‘Employer of Choice’ we must follow a step-by-step guide. Let me introduce you to the most basic yet, the most important part of this guide – it is called the foundation.Every strong culture, belief and organization needs a stable and strong foundation. Our foundation has to be one of honesty, sincerity, integrity and discipline… Towards building this foundation, certain rules, regulations and processes must be followed. The most important rule is — team comes first. We should treat our colleagues the way we would want to be treated. Everyone in a team is important and we need to respect that. There are policies in place and for good reason - abide by them. Do not work towards finding loop holes or to by-pass them.To build the culture we want, we must aim to achieve organisational goals versus our personal gains. We are part of an ecosystem and if this ecosystem flourishes, we too will benefit. Priority to personal gains over the organisations’ is short sighted and the benefit, short lived. However, if we give organisational goals precedence, our personal gains will automatically be met — which will have interminable value and advantages.Let us embark on this journey of change. The change for a better future and a world class workplace!!

NEWSLETTER I VOL 2 I Feb 2018

Today our customers are operating in high-risk business environments due to changes in government policy,

emerging technologies, and the ongoing talent war.

To help customers win the talent war and create a successful brand in Recruitment and Staffing (R&S) business, there is a need to induct two critical aspects to the existing business and growth strategy of an organization - “Customer Development” & “Candidate Development”.

“Customer Development” is the term developed by Steve Blank. In his book Four Steps to the Epiphany, he described a customer feedback loop - ‘a process to help the organization in the customer development.’

I have always been inspired by Steve Blank, Eric Rice, and Ash Maury’s thoughts and ideas on strategies to grow business. With this thought I coined a term called “Candidate Development”. I consider these two as “Growth Engine Factors” for any R&S business.

Steve Blank’s Customer Development and Candidate Development have some essential elements such as acquiring new

clients, customer experience, managing existing clients, building up talent pools, enhancing candidate experience, and engaging existing candidates. In each of these elements, there is a feedback/ validation loop which helps to tune both the Customer and the Candidate.

In my experience, implementing well-defined Candidate and Customer Development processes can significantly improve the business metrics for any R&S organization. Steve Jobs famously said—“It is not the customer’s job to know what they want”.

Hence it is important for us to know the problem of the customer and candidate both.

WE ASPIRE...

The swift changes that are taking over Okaya Infocom can be seen everywhere - and suddenly, we find ourselves questioning everything!Things are moving, and moving fast - brings to mind the metaphor ‘winds of change’...

As expected, no change is ever smooth - there is upheaval, there is doubt and there is resistance. However, in our case there seems to be very little resistance if any! And that my dear friends, is practically a miracle. Not only are our team mates accepting the change, but they are participating in it whole heartedly. Mind you, the changes are not just external or cosmetic but internal and at the grass root level. We began with the basics. We questioned every role, every process, every action, every communication and every decision. The open minded attitude of everyone at OkayaInfocom made it possible for all of us to sit across the table and find answers to every question. The first strategy meet successfully concluded on 15th January at the Noida office. All stakeholders walked away with a roadmap - a micro and a macro map. We all contributed to each others domains, we tabled our aspirations and peeves, we laughed and we argued, but in the end, we succeeded. We succeeded in agreeing that we can disagree. We succeeded in seeing our faults. We succeeded in giving voice to everything we are proud of and everything that we want to change - in other words, we succeeded in showing ourselves a mirror. And mirrors don’t lie.We came to the realization that no change is possible unless we participate in it. The good news is that we all are on the same page and eager to be the change. The bad news is, that is not enough - if wishes were horses, fools would ride...So, we are currently at the drawing board. We are discussing in small huddles - we are building and we are tearing down. We agree and we go away, and then we reconvene to disagree, but through all this we are becoming a stronger team. We are fumbling and at times stumbling, but we are never giving up because we are getting there. We are getting to the first milestone, we are getting to the first victory - we are getting to the best each one of us can be... And if each one of us is determined to ‘get it’ then for sure we’ll get there - this aspiration is the inspiration of our 2018 mantra ‘I’ll get it’We are becoming a seasoned crew that is capable of steering this ship through choppy waters. We have a formidable task and we are captained by a formidable man so may the fortunes smile on us and may we fulfil the long list of aspirations set out by us... We want to be employer of choice in the next couple of years, we want to set the standards for modern processes, we want to be the game-changer, we want to be the ‘Google’ of the Recruiting & Staffing industry, and more...It’s a tall order but not an impossible one. If we put action to words then every word we utter is achievable. Dreams are enforced into reality only through action. No matter what the task at hand, if we decide to get it, then we will get it!
