NRA Home Firearm Safety Class October 20, 2018

The St. Joseph County Conservation & Sportsman Club, Inc. (Club) will host the National Rifle Association of America (NRA) Home Firearm Safety Class, October 20, 2018, from 4:00 pm to 8:00 p.m. at the Club facility located at 23640 Feather-stone Road, Sturgis, MI. There is no charge for the class. “Home Firearm Safety is offered to provide firearm owners, and non-owners, an opportunity to learn the ba-sics of firearms and how to handle firearms.” Stated Charles Reynolds, NRA Train-ing Counselor. The class does not involve any range use of firearms. “We intend to educate people of most any age in the proper handling of firearms, basic opera-tion of different types of firearms, proper storage of firearms in the home, and what to do should a loaded firearm be found.” Said Reynolds.

The Club is a nonprofit organization with a purpose of educating the public on fire-arm ownership, conservation and natural resource issues. Information on the class can be obtained by contacting Charles Reynolds at [email protected] or calling 269-251-3946.

September ATA Shell Shoot Winners Sunday, September 16 had 23 shooters come out and enjoy the beautiful Septem-ber weather for the ATA “Shell Shoot” where shotgun shells were the trophy priz-

es. Jonathan Stockwell (pictured), a Junior from Dowagiac, was the “High All Around” winner besting all the adults with a combined score of 378/400. He also took the Handicap Champion (93/100) and tied with Jess Bowman for the Doubles top spot (91/100). Dave Harsanyi, from Indiana, took the 200-Singles Champion spot shooting 195/200 targets. A big Thank You goes out to AJ’s Supplies, Jim Reid, and several anonymous donors for their donations towards the RIO Ammunition shot shells that were given away as prizes. Don’t forget our next and last ATA shoot for the season is National trapshooting Day, October 14.

CPL Renewal Class October 17 No, a class is not required for renewing your CPL. But when you sign the Michi-gan State Police Form RI-012, you will be certifying that you have spent at least one hour of firing range time in the last six months and three hours reviewing the required training that you took to get your CPL. The range time requirement is easy to complete, but what about the review of class material? Are you up-to-date with the changes in the CPL law? Whether you are renewing your CPL or just feel you need to review your CPL material and learn about the changes in the law since you got your CPL, this is a class for you. This four hour class will be run here at the Sportsman Club whenever we have four or more people. The cost per person will be $50, which includes class materials, classroom, and range time (furnish your own ammunition.) Contact Charlie Reynolds at 269.251.3946 or [email protected] for more information.
