This week in Squirrels class, our Padlet page

has been all about Bubbles. Children who

have returned to school this week have

been thinking about what it means to

social distance and stay within a ‘bubble’.

We explored this through stories, blowing

bubbles and learning all about halving

fractions in maths.

All children have accessed Padlet which

has been supported by home learning

packs also linked to the theme of Bubbles.

Thomas particularly enjoyed blowing

bubbles and watching how high the wind

could take them whilst Dylan enjoyed

sharing equally between two groups and

gaining an understanding of what ‘half’

might look like. This linked to the real life

experience of the classroom being divided

in half to support social distancing.

The children in

Hazel Class have

been busy in their

learning. In maths

they have been

answering

questions linked

to time and in

Topic learning

about China.

Children at home

and at school

have been doing

lots of learning

outside and as

ever there has

been some

fantastic art work

produced. Well

done everyone!

Willow Class

Acer Class (South)

Willow class have been learning about

their ‘Dinosaurs’ topic this week. They have

learnt about differences between

carnivores, herbivores and omnivores and

all about how fossils are made. Some of

the class even made fossil cookies. They

have been creative and made dinosaur

shadow puppets and dinosaur skeleton

pictures. Our literacy has linked to

information texts, the children have

labelled dinosaur diagrams and created

their own dinosaur information texts. In

Maths we have been learning about

positional language and have had to

describe how the dinosaurs have moved.

This week has been busy! It has been

lovely to welcome back some of Acer

Class to school, and those at home have

been continuing to work really hard too.

In English, we have used ‘Where the Forest

Meets The Sea’ to generate discussion

about the changes to our environment,

and have researched and used inference

skills to identify how Lockdown has had a

positive impact on our environment, ready

for some persuasive writing next week.

Pupils in school then used the collage style

of the Illustrations in the story to link to

Andy Goldsworthy. We went outside and

showed amazing creativity in making art in

the style of Goldsworthy.

In Music this week, we have had fun

creating pieces of music using everyday

objects around the house and then editing

them using music editing software.

Maple Class

This week in Maple class has been

Space Week. We have looked into how

our planet fits into our solar system,

day and night, our moon as well as

space missions from earth.

Mr Coomber has been in Maple Class

with Iris and Olivier getting to know the

school. In class we measured two

metres, made planets and completed

writing, reading and maths all linked to

space week.

At home Ethan is proud to announce

the growth of his caterpillars.

Children have also continued to enjoy

daily walks, bike and scooter rides. Well

done Maple Class.

Acer Class

This week, Acer class have been busy learning

about the devastating effects of Plastic

Pollution on our Planet and celebrating World

Ocean’s Day (08/06/2020).

We have also been thinking about what we

can do to help and have recycled and re-

used our plastics to make boats that float! We

also had fun creating our own Stanley

(jellyfish) from the story “Someone swallowed

Stanley!”

In English, we have been busy writing animal

riddles – can you guess what we are

describing? As well as this, we have written

acrostic poems about Plastic Pollution and

tried to encourage others to stop and take

action now!

We have also been developing our

understanding of fractions - look at the focus

and concentration!

As well as this, some have been busy baking

again; others have been setting up snack

bars, playing darts and creating price lists;

and Owen has built himself a brand new bike!

We have loved being back in school and

can’t wait for everyone else to join us!

Beech South Class

It’s Been a fantastic start to the

week here in Beech class at

Springfields South.

Finley has been keeping very busy

with partaking in Paddle boarding

over in Bradford on Avon along

with making a personal worry

monster.

Our topic this week has been

bubbles and this has been very

successful.

We’ve made some Rainbow for

NHS out of bubble wrapping and

pressing it onto A3 paper. These

will be displaced outside of school

to show support to the amazing

NHS

keyworkers.

On Tuesday

We made

bubbles out of

various

materials that we could find lying

around the school. (String, wire, hair-bands and even elastic

bands) to see what would make the best bubbles.

Beech also got back into the swing of things with Mrs Cottrell in

Maths and took part in their “Daily Mile” for

PE with Mr Jay.

A very positive start to Beech class who’ve

came back to school for the first time in a

while, along with a massive change of a

new teacher (Mr Jay). Beech class have

been outstanding.

KS4 Maths

This week in maths we have been embracing technology, using Microsoft Teams to

teach students in school and at home at the same time. Raife, Tobi and Ralph have

all accessed lessons from the comfort of their homes. It has been lovely to see

everyone interacting as if they are all in the same room together. Students have

enjoyed being back at school and getting on with their maths once more. I hope

that more students will join in next week.

KS4 LOTC Pathway at school

On Monday and Tuesday, we cleared stinging nettles from an overgrown area on

the front field. This has opened up the area allowing us space to make a fire square

and a log circle for seating (work in progress!). Good safety shown by all using the

saw to cut the logs for the fire square edges. Hopefully, next week we get to use it

for a fire.

KS4 English

It has been brilliant having some students back in school and I am so impressed with

the way they have all settled back into the new ‘normal’. Well done everyone. I am

also pleased to see that those students who are still at home are continuing to work

hard with their virtual learning. I am one proud teacher.

A special shout out to Sophie in Sycamore who bought me in a whole pack of work

she had completed whilst school was closed and also for getting her head around A

Midsummer Night’s Dream in record time this week. Raife is working really hard at

home on this too

In Rowan, we have started to study Macbeth and again, all students have got stuck

straight in whether that be at home or school. Well done everyone.

Aaron and Tobi from Cedar are still smashing through all their online work and Toby

is doing brilliantly on Nessy

Those pupils in Cedar, Elm and Apple who are in school have started to read ‘The

Twits’ and have all created some disgusting sounding meals for Mr Twit
