The All-Church Garage Sale is

coming this week on Friday

and Saturday, August 5th and

6th right here at New Haven

UMC! Spread the word!

It is always a great time to look

through what “treasures” you

might find that you simply can-

not live without! This sale di-

rectly benefits the NHUMC gen-

eral funds.

Yes! We

are definite-

ly in the

“dog days”

of summer.

We’ve al-

ready experienced a full week

of a triple digit heat wave with

no end in sight. I wouldn’t say

it’s been that much hotter than

usual at this time of year, but

we’ve certainly noticed the

need for rain!

I don’t know about yours, but

our yard and flowers are look-

ing pretty sad. Even when

you’ve pulled that garden hose

around for the umpteenth time

to try and keep up with the

lack of water, there are dry,

brown patches of grass and

wilting begonias. It’s a wonder

they haven’t just given up!

I am by no means a master

gardener, however, I’m always

surprised by the number of

flowers and plants, and even

our lawns that recover from a

good rain! I’ll look at them at

the end of summer and think

the heat has gotten the better

of them... and then a couple of

months later I’ll notice they are

full, and flourishing. It’s like a

complete resurrection!

Thankfully the laws of creating

grass seed and flowering

plants are not up to me! God

made some plants in a way

that they can withstand this

extreme heat and even survive

our bone dry days.

It’s the same with us. Some-

times our lives can seem dry

and in need of a good

“watering”. The good news is,

that God can bring hope and

resurrection! God brings life

and new breath into our souls.

No more dry bones! Praise

God for hope that waters our

souls to overflowing! Amen!

The New Haven Day School is looking for a music teacher for this coming school year! The class is on Monday & Wednesday morning and only about 5 hours a week. If you are interested, please contact Kacie Kendrick.

Paula’s Perspective . . .

In the next few weeks the flooring project will begin on the 2nd floor. We will hold Sunday school downstairs in the Children’s Church room for the duration of the project. After the flooring is installed we will resume class upstairs as usu-al.

Are you interested in teaching our children? I need to develop a new rotation of teachers and would like to know if you feel called to serve in this area. The new rotations will begin in Sep-tember. Please call the church office or talk to me if you want to be included in our teaching pool!

Worship Wednesday’s have drawn to a close. Each week we explored a different story from the Bible. In addition, we played, cooked, per-formed skits and enjoyed getting to know one another a lot better! The children welcomed one another and Miss Kacie, our Day School Direc-tor, with open arms and I feel we developed a closer bond through our time together. I want to thank our Church for extending this oppor-tunity to our children.

Project Transformation

Thank you for your generosity for contributing to Project Transformation. We were able to sponsor an intern, to contribute for a Dreamline Project (field trip and trans-portation) at Southern Hills UMC, and to contribute to Project Transformation at Metropolitan Baptist for snacks and drinks for the children and a meal for the interns. We wanted to show our appreciation to many people who volunteered for Project Transformation. We appreciate Susan Harris for recruiting volunteers for Project Transformation at Metropolitan Baptist. Special thanks to the following volunteers--Cathy Amos, Carol Cox, Dale Edmond, Susan Harris, David Schifferdecker, Deena Smith, and Rose Unterschutz, for helping the children with their reading skills.

Thank you to the following people who volunteered to help nurture the reading skills of the children at Southern Hills UMC—Cathy Amos, Doyle and Jan Boyd, Carol Cox, Suzanne Davis, Adriaan and Marianne Duiveman, Betty Fine, Paula Fox, Donita Gray, Susan Harris, Deena Smith, David Toalson, and Dodie Wood. Some got to help the children with art and making ice cream. A special thank you goes to Pastor Cindy for leading us in prayer before we went to serve the children at South-ern Hills UMC and for leading a Bible Study with the chil-dren.

We greatly appreciate our committee—Cathy Amos, Adriaan and Marianne Duiveman, Jennifer Fisher, Dick and Kay Garwood, Susan Harris, Lou Lindsey, Barry Puryear, Phil Roberts, Bailey Sartain, Wyatt Schiffer-decker, Michael and Tiffany Sherwin, John and Mary Stutsman, David and Carolyn Toalson. Their generosity included providing the food for the luncheon, the home-made and purchased cookies, the paper goods, the ta-ble decorations, the snacks and drinks for the children, two lunches and dinner for the interns. Many participated in the program. Carolyn brought her blue grass band and played her banjo. Lou took many photographs. Many contributed to the Silent Auction. Special thanks to Tiffa-ny for being in charge of the Silent Auction, providing many auction items, contacting businesses for dona-tions, and organizing the auction. Dear Colleague, Here are some statistics from Mission-sponsored events at New Haven UMC:

The above chart gives an estimate of unique volunteers per mission line; estimated hours volun-teered to the project or activity and the estimated number of people served during each event. Please note that this does not include volunteer hours that several NHUMC members donate as part of their own personal giving to various charitable organizations.

In addition to the above listed events, there was a joint fundraiser event with other United Methodist Churches for the Happy Children’s Home in April that raised over $11,000. Also, our very own Project Transformation fundraiser event in May raising over $3,000. Project Transformation reading weeks were just completed at both the Southern Hills and Metro Baptist sites by our New Haven readers. Many thanks to those helping make these events successful!

We look forward to the remaining mission activities planned – Bus Stop Ministry gears up soon; an In-Service Sunday in September; two meals to serve at the Day Center; the Adult Mission Trip to Colo-rado; gathering items for the Mountain of Food event benefitting Restore Hope; Angel Tree names to spread the Christmas cheer; as well as many other on-going mission projects (Respite Care, Exodus House, Ronald McDonald House, Tulsa Community Food Bank).
