DISTRICT IDENTIFIER
2003 Thematic Design
Corridor Aesthetics
The urban design of the Southern Gateway corridor evolved from the site analysis
process that considered the adjacent neighborhood character of the corridor
beginning in the suburban areas of Lancaster and Cedar Hill and continuing
through many diverse neighborhoods to the urban center of Oak Cliff. The design
took the area’s rolling hills, mature trees and exposed native limestone into
consideration. The limestone geology, or strata, established the corridor theme
and was interpreted through pattern in the hardscape design elements of the
corridor.

Corridor Aesthetics Technical Guidelines
Next Steps
Corridor Aesthetics
1. TxDOT Finalizes Draft Aesthetic Guidelines and initiates Design-Build Project
• Segment 1 (IH-35E) – Full Reconstruction, full implementation of guidelines
• Segment 2A (US 67) – Widening of existing, partial implementation of
guidelines
o Full implementation of guidelines for proposed Noise Walls
o Widening of existing bridges along with retaining walls will receive In
Kind aesthetic implementation
2. City of Dallas/Stakeholders develop standalone aesthetic/landscaping
enhancement projects
3. Projects submitted for funding:
• TxDOT Green Ribbon Landscape Improvements Program
• Other
4. City of Dallas design, construction and maintenance of enhancement projects
