About The Chorus

Director:

Susan Leach - Hebert

Accompanist: David Wallace

About The Chorus The South Windsor Community Chorus members share a desire to provide entertainment, musical growth and education, personal challenge, creativity, and community service. The Chorus welcomes voices (with or without musical background) from South Windsor and the surrounding towns. This organization originally began in 1971 as “Friends of Music.” Bobbie Reeves (Director) and Karen Krinjak (Accompanist) volunteered their services to help raise money for band uniforms for the South Windsor High School. Today, membership ranges from 40 to 50 singers from towns throughout the region. The Chorus performs two major concerts a season, winter and spring, as well as shorter programs throughout the community. Our repertoire consists of light classical, popular show tunes, and traditional numbers. The group is sponsored in part by the Recreation Department of the Town of South Windsor, through the generosity of companies and organizations in the community, as well as by members of the chorus themselves. The Chorus awards its’ “Friends of Music” scholarship each year, to a graduating Senior of South Windsor High School, pursuing a career in music.

A Note from the Director … Happy New Year to all of you and THANK YOU for coming out and supporting our South Windsor Community Chorus. In keeping with our recent practices of including students from our very own community, we welcome Gabe Milluzzo. Gabe has been singing and performing in the South Windsor Schools since elementary schools and many have watched him and his voice grow and mature. It is such a treat for us to have a large pool of talented young people in South Windsor. It certainly makes me proud to live, teach and conduct in this wonderful town. As for the South Windsor community chorus, we welcomed many new members this session as well as seasoned veteran singers of all ages. Singing a variety of styles and genres, my hope is that each audience member will find a piece (or pieces) that moves them and connects with them in some way. I leave you with this: “Music speaks what cannot be expressed, soothes the mind and gives it rest, heals the heart and makes it whole, flows from heaven to the soul.”

A Note from the President … I hope you’ll remember all you’ve shared with the South Windsor community chorus in this evenings performance. We, the SWCC enjoy every moment that we are performing for you, our “Friends in music” from all of the surrounding communities. This season, The South Windsor Community Chorus had the wonderful opportunity to share its music at the South Windsor Historical Society’s annual Holiday House Tour and Tea Cup Silent Auction. Our voices rang through the hall like a chorus at a grand auditorium. We also performed Our National Anthem and God Bless America at the American Legion’s annual Wreaths Across America ceremony at Veterans Memorial Park. We bring you this season, Joyful Songs with the hope that you find JOY in our music. Our message is one of Joy and Hope, that music can heal and it can bring joy to the hearts for all who hear us sing. It is our wish that you will continue supporting us as we continue on the road ahead and feel these thanks we are sending with our music. Thank You and Happy New Year to ALL of YOU, our “FRIENDS IN MUSIC”.
