Valentine’s Food Competition

BOB FM’s Valentine Radiothon

The seventh annual Valentine’s

Food Drive Competition at Ross

Memorial Hospital contributed

1,020 food items!

The decorated containers were

dazzling.

Thank you again for giving from

the heart.

BOB FM and K.L.F.S. joined together again to present a fundraising Valentine-

themed “Radiothon” on Monday, February 14th. Between the hours of 6 am and 5

pm, listeners could telephone the station and make a donation while members of

K.L.F.S. were being interviewed. Between noon and 2 pm, there was an added bo-

nus: requesting a favourite song for a loved one. Operators were accepting silent

auction bids for 5 grand prizes! All financial donations were eligible for hourly

draws and the event raised $3,000 for the Food Source.

SPECIAL THANKS to Isaac Kelsey, Julie Corlett & Dave Illman of Bob FM and Jason

Bain of The Lindsay Post.

Other schools participating in this

event who donated their contribu-

tions to Kawartha Lakes Food Source

were King Albert Public School, Les-

lie Frost Public School, Alexandra

Public School and Jack Callaghan

Public School. Lady Eaton Elemen-

tary School gave their donations to

Omemee Food Bank while Dr. George

Hall presented their collection to

Little Britain Food Bank.

THANKS to everyone for caring.

100TH DAY CELEBRATIONS Congratulations to Parkview Public School in Lindsay for helping the less fortunate while marking a milestone in the student year. Elementary schools throughout the Trillium Lake-lands District School Board were challenged to collect 100 non-perishable items in February

to celebrate the 100th day of school. These items were donated to Kawartha Lakes Food Source or their local rural food banks.

The entire school embraced the competition enthusiastically, collecting

1,281 food items! Mrs. Webster's Grade 1, Ms. Pearson's Grades 2/3 and Mr. Toplak's Grades 4/5 contributed the most items to make this event a enormous success.

Fresh Fruit for Hungry Kids Kawartha Lakes Food Source will once again be supplying fresh

fruit to local school breakfast programs. The Food Source will

take money from its stabilization reserve to continue the program,

which has been supported in the past with help from the Lindsay

C.H.E.S.T. Fund.

Although the Food Source is under pressure from declining food

donations and increasing demand, board members felt it was

important to re-start the fresh fruit program, which lapsed last fall

when it became clear the C.H.E.S.T. Fund was unable to continue

its financial support. Kawartha Lakes Food Source supplies other

items, such as granola bars, pancake and muffin mix, pure fruit

juice and cereal to 14 local school breakfast programs.

The Food Source started providing fresh fruit again on Feb. 14,

and will continue to do so until December

2011, when the program will be re-

evaluated to see if the financial resources

exist to continue it.

“This is a great thing to support,” says

Food Source President Nancy Payne, “but

we need the community’s help in order to

keep funding it in the future.”

SPRING FOOD DRIVE Spring is fast approaching and with it comes the annual

Spring Food Drive at the Lindsay Loblaws and Reid’s Valu-mart stores. The drive is scheduled to run Friday, April 8th to Thursday, April 28th and our volunteers will be handing out brown paper bags when you come through the doors to

help with your donations.

CIBC employees are committed to the

communities where they work and live. Year

after year, employees and retirees

demonstrate their volunteer spirit by devoting

their time, skills and energy to a wide variety

of charitable and not-for-profit organizations

in their communities through the Employees

as Ambassador Program.

John Bennett, KLFS board member and CIBC

retiree presents Barb Truax, Chair, KLFS

Fundraising Committee with a financial

contribution.
