Problem: Due to a blocked screen deck, an aggregate quarry was unknowingly losing about 60,000 tons of production per year. The blockage also created excessive loads on the springs which led to additional maintenance costs.

Problem: A leading mining equipment manufacturer began supplying aggregate separator lines to coal and mineral companies in the Dakotas and Canada. But the solenoid valves controlling the machinery were not reliable in the region’s harsh and corrosive conditions. They also used too much power, and were not rated to meet the frigid winter temperatures.

Solution: The supplier turned to ASCO’s low ambient temperature solenoid pilot valves to solve its operating requirements. Their stainless steel construction performed well in the mines’ dirty, corrosive conditions, and their higher flow rate was a bonus. The CSA-approved valve’s low power rating was ideal for remote locations, plus a -40° C rating easily stood up to arctic temperatures. The customer reports that the products are operating reliably in the harshest and most difficult environments. Maintenance costs also have declined. The mining equipment provider has now standardized on ASCO valves for all harsh-condition applications.

When an inclined conveyor is stopped with a loaded belt it may run backwards and do damage to the conveyor if it does not have a backstop.

The Solution:

Screw Feeder and Transfer Screw Conveyor for Cement Kiln Dust

Problem: A major cement manufacturer required a screw feeder and screw conveyor to incorporate into their dust kiln system at a new cement plant. The screw feeder needed to bolt directly to the system collection hopper and meter hot cement dust into a transfer screw conveyor to be conveyed 90 feet for further processing.

Solution: Utilizing 3D modeling, KWS designed a fully integrated screw conveyor system built to withstand the harsh environment and operating conditions of a cement mill. A reversible screw feeder that allows for clean out under upset conditions was paired with a transfer screw conveyor capable of integrating into the existing system layout. The modular system was easily assembled and installed in the field. The exclusive KWS sliding pedestal

trough end was used to compensate for thermal expansion due to high material temperature. The screws were designed to expand axially without adding any undue stresses to the drive units or bearings.

PROBLEM A water management services company transfers water long distances from source to drilling site in the Marcellus area, using very large suction pumps and long runs of pipe and hose. The terrain is very unpredictable and they were having problems hooking the main pipe line between the pump and transfer tank. They were spending hours leveling and setting the two parts until they could get the 12” pipe connected. They were having issues with breaking pipe and leaking connections, and needed an alternative.

SOLUTION Mi Hose and Rubber, working with Hose Master, proposed the Hose Master AF4750- 12”ID x 15’ SS metal hose assembly capable of 160 psi service and with exceptional flexibility.
