His Eye Is On The Sparrow

1.Why should I feel discouraged Why should the shadows come Why should my heart be lonely And long for heaven and home When Jesus is my portion my constant friend is He His eye is on the sparrow and I know He watches me

Chorus I sing because I'm happy I sing because I'm free For His eye is on the sparrow And I know He watches me

2.Let not your heart be troubled His tender words I hear And resting on His goodness I lose my doubt and fear I sing because I'm happy I sing because I'm free For His eye is on the sparrow And I know He watches me

Tho' by the path He leadeth but one step I may see His eye is on the sparrow and I know He watches me I sing because I'm happy I sing because I'm free For His eye is on the sparrow And I know He watches me

OPENING SCRIPTURE: PSALM 86:1-3, 12-13(Read by Matt Miller)

Incline your ear, O Lord, and answer me, for I am poor and needy. Preserve my life, for I am godly; save your servant, who trusts in you—you are my God. Be gracious to me, O Lord, for to you do I cry all the day.

I give thanks to you, O Lord my God, with my whole heart, and I will glorify your name forever. For great is your steadfast love toward me; you have delivered my soul from the depths of Sheol.

Delayed Justice Luke 18:1-8

Main Theme: Our cry for justice is answered by Jesus.

#1 - The Characters

A. The Judge

B. The Widow

#2 - The Lessons

A. What do we learn About God? i. Our prayers are heard by God not because of our repetition, but because of our relationship. Romans 8:16 The Spirit himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God.

ii. God’s delay in justice is not because He is corrupt or too busy; it is rooted in His mercy and steadfast love. Psalm 103:8 The Lord is merciful and gracious, slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love.

B. What do we learn About Ourselves? i. Our cry for justice is always directed against ourselves first. We are the unjust ones. Romans 3:10 as it is written: “None is righteous, no, not one; 11 no one understands; no one seeks for God.

ii. Jesus lays down his right to demand justice and moves towards the injustice of the cross so that we might become just or justified. Matthew 26:53 Do you think that I cannot appeal to my Father, and he will at once send me more than twelve legions of angels? Westminster Shorter Catechism #33 Justification is an act of God’s free grace in which he pardons all our sins and accepts us as righteous in his sight for the sake of the righteousness of Christ alone, which is credited to us and received by faith alone.

WESTMINSTER SHORTER CATECHISM QUESTION 33

Q. What is justification?

A: Justification is an act of God’s free grace in which he pardons all our sins and accepts us as righteous in his sight for the sake of the righteousness of Christ alone, which is credited to us and received by faith alone.

LUKE 18:1-8

Luke 18:1    And he told them a parable to the effect that they ought always to pray and not lose heart. 2 He said, “In a certain city there was a judge who neither feared God nor respected man. 3 And there was a widow in that city who kept coming to him and saying, ‘Give me justice against my adversary.’ 4 For a while he refused, but afterward he said to himself, ‘Though I neither fear God nor respect man, 5 yet because this widow keeps bothering me, I will give her justice, so that she will not beat me down by her continual coming.’” 6 And the Lord said, “Hear what the unrighteous judge says. 7 And will not God give justice to his elect, who cry to him day and night? Will he delay long over them? 8 I tell you, he will give justice to them speedily. Nevertheless, when the Son of Man comes, will he find faith on earth?”

ST. PATRICK’S PRAYER I arise today Through the strength of heaven; Light of the sun, Splendor of fire, Speed of lightning, Swiftness of the wind, Depth of the sea, Stability of the earth, Firmness of the rock.

I arise today Through God's strength to pilot me; God's might to uphold me, God's wisdom to guide me, God's eye to look before me, God's ear to hear me, God's word to speak for me, God's hand to guard me, God's way to lie before me, God's shield to protect me, God's hosts to save me Afar and anear, Alone or in a mulitude.

Christ shield me today Against wounding Christ with me, Christ before me, Christ behind me, Christ in me, Christ beneath me, Christ above me, Christ on my right, Christ on my left, Christ when I lie down, Christ when I sit down, Christ in the heart of everyone who thinks of me, Christ in the mouth of everyone who speaks of me, Christ in the eye that sees me, Christ in the ear that hears me.

I arise today Through the mighty strength Of the Lord of creation.
