“For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world,

but that the world might be saved through him.” Jn 3:17

Dear Parishioners,

Today is the Solemnity of the Most Holy Trinity! How many

times a day do we make the Sign of the Cross? This daily profes-

sion of faith in the Triune God can be a rather routine gesture in

many cases. In fact, the mystery of the Holy Trinity—three equally

divine persons in one God—can easily become a fact of the faith

simply taken for granted. The Catechism of the Catholic Church

describes the mystery of the Holy Trinity as the central mystery of

the Christian faith and life (see CCC 234). The truth of this state-

ment becomes fascinating and awe-inspiring when we take the time,

like on Trinity Sunday, and ponder this truth. The Sacred Scriptures

and the Liturgical Prayer of the Church clearly illustrate this truth.

Today becomes an opportunity to give renewed praise and glory to

our One God, the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. This will

help us to be more conscious of the meaning of the Sign of the Cross

and the profundity of this central mystery of faith.

Next Sunday, June 18, 2017, we observe the Solemnity of the Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ. This observance is more pop-

ularly known as Corpus Christi. The origin of this solemnity was to

draw attention to the belief of the Church that the bread and wine

Blood of Christ. The belief informs our love and devotion for this

divine food, reminds us of the need to properly prepare and to rever-

ently receive Holy Communion, to keep the one hour Communion

Fast, and to approach the altar only if we are free from serious sin.

have a procession with the Blessed Sacrament at the conclusion of

the 11:00 AM Solemn Mass. This procession will move outside and

be followed by Benediction of the Most Blessed Sacrament. Also,

there will be a Holy Hour before the 6:30 PM Mass.

after Pentecost. Efficacious Novena to

the Sacred Heart of Jesus:

I. O my Jesus, you have said: "Truly I

say to you, ask and you will receive,

seek and you will find, knock and it

will be opened to you." Behold I knock, I seek and ask for

the grace of...... (here name your request)

Our Father....Hail Mary....Glory Be to the Father....Sacred

Heart of Jesus, I place all my trust in you.

II. O my Jesus, you have said: "Truly I say to you, if you

ask anything of the Father in my name, he will give it to

you." Behold, in your name, I ask the Father for the grace

of.......(here name your request) Our Father...Hail

Mary....Glory Be To the Father....Sacred Heart of Jesus, I

place all my trust in you.

III. O my Jesus, you have said: "Truly I say to you, heaven

and earth will pass away but my words will not pass away."

Encouraged by your infallible words I now ask for the grace

of.....(here name your request) Our Father....Hail

Mary....Glory Be to the Father...Sacred Heart of Jesus, I

place all my trust in you.

O Sacred Heart of Jesus, for whom it is impossible not to

have compassion on the afflicted, have pity on us miserable

sinners and grant us the grace which we ask of you, through

the Sorrowful and Immaculate Heart of Mary, your tender

Mother and ours.

Say the Hail, Holy Queen and add: St. Joseph, foster father

of Jesus, pray for us. - St. Margaret Mary A lacoque

LIVING STEWARDSHIP NOW

THREE IN ONE

Trinity Sunday is one of the few feasts that celebrates

a reality and belief of the Church, rather than an event or

person. Today we honor the eternal God: Father, Son,

and Holy Spirit. Essentially, we believe that God is one

being yet three distinct persons. Most people have a hard

time wrapping their minds around this doctrine. Don’t let

the word “person” fool you. Person here means “that

which stands on its own,” or “individual reality,” and

does not mean the persons of the Trinity are like three

human persons. How can the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit

be distinct from one another yet completely united? Well,

think of your eyes: each eye is distinct, yet together they

are one and undivided in their sight. Another illustration

is a musical chord. Think of a C chord. The C, E, and G

notes are all distinct notes, but joined as one chord make

the sound richer and more dynamic than if the notes had

been played individually. The notes are all equally im-

portant in producing the lovely sound, and the sound is

lacking and thin if one of them is left out. Yet again, the

Trinity could be compared to ice, steam, and water. Jesus

was solid, like ice: he became fully human so we could

see him in our world. The Holy Spirit, like steam, is

something that cannot be seen, but has great power. The

Father is like water, without which there would be nei-

ther steam nor ice. However, all of these explanations fall

short. The Trinity is a mystery but by the word

“mystery,” the Church does not mean a riddle to be

solved, but a reality beyond our human ability to grasp.

Ultimately, it is a truth we can only begin to know

through worship, symbol, and faith.

Living Stewardship Now

Volunteer to be trained as a catechist so you can

share the truths of our faith with children, teens, or adults

in your parish. Be a sponsor and befriend a candidate or

catechumen in the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults

(RCIA).
