Collect V. The Lord be with you. R. And with thy spirit. Let us pray. Almighty and everlasting God, whose will it is to restore all things in thy well-beloved Son, the King of kings and Lord of lords: mer-cifully grant that the peoples of the earth, divided and enslaved by sin, may be freed and brought together under his most gracious rule; who liveth and reigneth with thee in the unity of the Holy Spirit, ever one God, world without end. Amen.

The Lesson: II Samuel 5:1-3 In those days, all the tribes of Israel came to David at Hebron, and said, “Behold, we are your bone and flesh. In times past, when Saul was king over us, it was you that led out and brought in Israel; and the Lord said to you, ‘You shall be shepherd of my people Israel, and you shall be prince over Israel.’” So all the elders of Israel came to the king at Hebron; and King David made a covenant with them at Hebron before the Lord, and they anointed David king over Israel. V. The Word of the Lord. R. Thanks be to God.

The Epistle: Colossians 1:12-20 Brethren, we give thanks to the Father, who has qualified us to share in the inheritance of the saints in light. He has delivered us from the dominion of darkness and transferred us to the kingdom of his beloved Son, in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins. He is the image of the invisible God, the first-born of all creation; for in him all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visi-ble and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or principalities or authorities – all things were created through him and for him. He is before all things, and in him all things hold together. He is the head of the body, the Church; he is the beginning, the first-born from the dead, that in everything he might be pre-eminent. For in him all the fullness of God was pleased to dwell, and through him to reconcile to himself all things, whether on earth or in heaven, making peace by the blood of his Cross. V. The Word of the Lord. R. Thanks be to God.

Introit Dignus est Agnus Revelation 5:12; 1:6; Psalm 72:1 Worthy is the Lamb that was slain to receive power, and riches, and wisdom, and strength, and honour:

to him be glory and dominion forever and ever. (Ps.) Give the King thy judgments, O God: and thy righteousness unto the King’s son.

(Bow) Glory be to the Father… (Rise) As it was in the beginning… Worthy is the Lamb…

The Psalm: Psalm 122 [Lætatus sum] Chant, James Turle (1802-1882)

I was glad when they | said un-to | me:

We will | go in-to the | house of · the | Lord. Our | feet shall | stand in thy | gates, | O Je- | rusalem.

For thither the tribes go up, even the | tribes of · the | Lord: to testify unto Israel, to give | thanks un-to the | Name of · the | Lord. For there is the | seat of | judgment: even the | seat of · the | house of | David.

The Holy Gospel: St. Luke 23:35-43 V. The Lord be with you. R. And with thy spirit.

V. A reading from the Holy Gospel according to Saint Luke. R. Glory be to thee, O Lord. At that time, the rulers scoffed at Jesus, saying, “He saved others; let him save himself, if he is the Christ of God, his Chosen One!” The soldiers also mocked him, coming up and offering him vinegar, and saying, “If you are the King of the Jews, save yourself!” There was also an inscription over him, “This is the King of the Jews.” One of the criminals who were hanged railed at him, saying, “Are you not the Christ? Save yourself and us!” But the other rebuked him, saying, “Do you not fear God, since you are under the same sentence of condemnation? And we in-deed justly; for we are receiving the due reward of our deeds; but this man has done nothing wrong.” And he said, “Jesus, remember me when you come in your kingly power.” And he said to him, “Truly, I say to you, today you will be with me in Paradise.” V. The Gospel of the Lord. R. Praise be to thee, O Christ.
