There are two things that separate great DJ’s from the rest of the pack; an understanding and passion for great music and the talent to take a crowd on a musical journey while behind the turntables. These things are what DJ Joe Broscoe models himself after. Whether it is a crowd of 100 or 1,000, Joe Broscoe delivers a high energy performance night after night while seamlessly blending and scratching multiple genres of music and videos together. His natural ability to do just this is an experience to be seen and heard. So let the party begin.

How did you get started in this business? I got started in the DJ business during high school. I was 15 and bought my DJ gear piece-by-piece with money earned from part-time jobs. Like most DJ’s, much time was spent practicing in my bedroom honing my skills until I felt comfortable enough to let people hear what I was doing. Before my senior year, booking gigs for friends and performing at high school dances became the norm. From that point on, I was hooked.

What do you like about performing? Whether it’s a crowd of 100 or over 1,000, it feels good having full control over the energy and music that’s filling the room. Watching the crowd go

crazy when I drop that hot record is what keeps me motivated. Right at that moment, it’s like we’re all connected and moving together – great synergy.

Who has been your favorite celebrity to work with and why? There’s been quite a few but recently I had the pleasure of working alongside the legendary DJ Skribble for The Penn Museum’s 12/21/12 Maya Countdown Event. He’s a superstar that I always admired and followed throughout his career. Getting the chance to rock the stage with him was incredible! What do you think makes you different from other DJ’s in the area? Having experience in hosting events at some of Philadelphia and Atlantic City’s hottest night spots in addition to my experience with hosting weddings and corporate functions is something that clearly separates me from other DJ’s. It’s not easy for many DJ’s to go from one type of party environment to the next and be able to do it well. In fact, through my work with Philly Star DJ’s, we were recently awarded of Best of Philly in 2012 via TheKnot.

You spin open format music, but what would be on YOUR ideal playlist? As an avid music lover, this is a trick question. I listen to a lot of music and

thoroughly enjoy the open format performance style as a DJ but my ideal playlist for a party would simply be mix of Top 40, House, Hip-Hop, party classics from the 80’s, 90’s and early to mid 2000’s all rolled into one. What formats have you found are most popular? Right now, I’d have to go with House, Trap and Hip-Hop. These genres are fairly easy to mix, most people know the songs word for word. It’s what’s trendy right now. House music has grown in popularity in the US over the past few years. It’s awesome to have people request the songs by name rather than trying to sing it to me when they’re asking me to play it. Lol. Trap Music has the House and Dubstep “sound” mixed with low tempo Hip-Hop style drum patterns so mixing these genres often gives “a seamless feel” in my sets. Finish the sentence! My staple song that ALWAYS gets the crowd moving is...Honestly, I can’t answer this question. It’s best for me to feel the energy of the crowd and determine what will work best to get them moving while I’m at the event. Due to the nature of my gigs, there is no “magic hit” that I can drop at the various parties I host. On the flip side, I can say that one of my least favorite songs to play would have to be

“Call Me Maybe”! Male testosterone won’t let me get into that record but the ladies can have it if they ask for it.

What does “A Day In The Life Of DJ Joe Broscoe” look like? On any given day you can catch me wearing many hats. On the not-so glamorous side of the DJ business, I work as part owner of the Philly Star DJ’s Team. Daily tasks include scheduling other DJ’s for nightclub bookings, graphic design work, downloading music and creating playlists for upcoming events. The list goes on and on. With that said, I truly love my job and enjoy every minute of it and proudly wear each of the hats needed to get the job done.

What do you hope your life looks like 10 years from now? Great question! Hoping to continue to grow and strengthen the Philly Star DJ’s brand all while starting to focus more on the music recording and production realm; another one of my creative passions. It’s possible that in the next 5 years, I might even take a step back from the turntables and weekly performances to open a small studio which hosts workshops geared towards teaching up-and-coming DJ talent.

This week we profile the “Crown Jewel” of the Golden Nugget’s fine dining options, Vic & Anthony’s Steak House. We chose a very busy night to dine at this particular steak house, and we were worried about not getting in. Upon arrival we met the General Manager Anthony Fiorentino who immediately took it upon himself to seat us personally, which was really a nice touch. After sitting down our vested host and server greeted us along with laying our napkins in our laps, an-other touch of class. We could tell the staff was trained by the best and take pride in their performance, a quality that only comes from exceptional management.

At this point we ordered colossal shrimp cocktail for an appetizer, a filet mignon with blue cheese crumble topping and a prime strip. The accom-paniments were huge portions of mashed pota-toes, steak fries and the largest and greenest asparagus that I have ever seen. I normally put steak sauce on every steak I get, but knowing that chef’s look down upon that I decided not to partake in any, and I am extremely happy that

I didn’t. Executive Chef Norman Reola’s prime beef was so tender and tasty that it didn’t need a thing. Flavorful juices burst into our mouths with every bite that we took. By the end of our main course every plate was bare. It was now time for dessert.

We had the “Caramel” Bread Pudding for dessert which was not only decadent but came with a side of caramel ice cream, the entire dish was to die for.

This writer must say that Vic & Anthony’s Steak House inside the Golden Nugget Ho-tel and Casino in Atlantic City is perhaps the best steak house around. The friendly and professional service from the staff, being sat by Anthony, the GM, and a table side conversation with Executive Chef Norman were the personal touches that I believe set Vic & Anthony’s Steak House apart from all of the other restaurants in the area.
