The smarter way to pipeline integrityNew MagneScan™ takes in-line inspection data to its highest level yet

GE Oil & GasPII Pipeline Solutions

A new age of in-line inspection

GE Oil & Gas – PII Pipeline Solutions invented high resolution Magnetic Flux Leakage technology for pipeline inspection in the 1970s. Now, we've re-invented it – combining our newest and most advanced MagneScan inspection tools with expert post-inspection assessment to deliver accurate and detailed reporting with:

• A seamless transition from raw inspection data to an actionable integrity report

• More advanced assessment of metal loss and mechanical damage

• Highest confi dence decision-making • Fewer false digs• Less operational disruption from ILI activity

Improved magnetizer designOur fl exible, speed-stable magnetizer design uses brushes to maintain constant contact with the pipe wall. This avoids data degradation in tight bends or in weld affected areas due to sensor shock. Our aim is 100% inspection from trap to trap.

This optimized design also reduces signal noise and improves data resolution, particularly for small defects, allowing maximum accuracy levels to be maintained at inspection speeds up to 5 m/s.

Advanced sensor technologyUsing the 6" tool as an example, the new sensor design includes 216 low-noise Hall Effect sensors in 72 tracks. Readings are taken on the axial, radial and transverse vectors every 2 mm. This optimizes defect sizing accuracy for width, length and depth. There are also 24 high-resolution caliper sensors to detect and profi le dents for accurate assessment of severity (PIDA).

This combination of MFL and caliper sensors offers a superior solution for mechanical damage assessment.

Maximum accuracyAt maximum speed

Higher overall effi ciency Our new MagneScan tools are short (6" tool is just 1.3 m long), lightweight and easy to manage. They navigate 1.5D back-to-back bends, and are easy to launch and receive without the need for expensive pipeline modifi cations.

4 inspections in 1The combination of fully integrated high-resolution caliper sensors and EMAT sensors enable direct wall thickness measurement and mapping as standard options.

The core metal-loss inspection capabilities include class-leading feature detection (POD), identifi cation (POI), sizing accuracy and certainty for depth, length and width.

And a new level of service to match

The new tools get better data faster, but that is just the beginning. The true value of the MagneScan data rests in what our Integrity Engineering specialists are able to do with it – and these advantages are now delivered in a seamless service package that eliminates uncertainty about the future health of your pipeline.

A fully integrated MagneScan inspection and integrity report can be delivered within eight weeks of the inspection run.

Data alignment and analysisBy combining metal-loss, caliper and mapping into a single inspection, MagneScan ensures optimal data alignment for enhanced pipeline visualization.

While each inspection run captures all possible data at highest available resolution, the customized report focuses on information specific to the customer's requirements. Should those integrity needs change, data can be re-analyzed to deliver a higher specification without the need for another inspection.

Final report contents

• Actionable integrity report including FFP

• Prioritized list of all reported features

• Fully aligned metal loss, caliper, & mapping data

• Complete metal loss evaluation trap-to-trap

• Data quality assessment

• LAPA assessments of defect severity

• Pressure sentenced plots (B31.G/NG18/bespoke)

• Histograms of defect distributions

• RUNCOM for re-inspections

• Dent severity assessment (PIDA)

• Repair and re-inspection recommendations

• Dig sheets as required

• Named contact to discuss report findings

Integrity assessmentNew MagneScan inspection service is truly comprehensive – and avoids the time and administrative costs wasted in undertaking separate inspection and integrity engineering projects.

Fitness For Purpose (FFP) This service determines your immediate and future integrity needs by gauging the criticality of features identified during inspection. It confidently develops response schedules that focus short-term repairs on sites of immediate risk and then determines optimal intervals for re-inspection and long-term remediation activities.

Corrosion Growth Assessment For re-inspections, the focus is on corrosion growth rates. Our RUNCOM software details corrosion activity, confirms the effectiveness of remedial measures, and provides the technical basis for safe and cost-effective maintenance and operating plans.

Post Inspection Dent AssessmentOur PIDA Strain analysis uses local strain as the criterion for judging dent severity. Detailed dent surface contour information is developed from multi-channel caliper data. Algorithms smooth and convert this to curvature data and local strain information. This service assesses a dent's severity and demonstrates compliance to the strain limits in ASME B31.8 (2003).

MagneScan’s integrated caliper sensors deliver high-resolution geometry data for advanced PIDA Strain analysis.

Our RUNCOM™ software determines corrosion growth with greater confidence and higher accuracy by utilizing raw source data.
