THE SKINNY ON MOBILE SITES
Here to stay, unlike…
Mobile Shopping on the Rise• Mobile shopping is on the rise with more than
110 million smartphone users in the U.S. and thousands of free shopping apps available to consumers.
• A survey by PriceGrabber.com found that 32 percent of mobile shoppers will download a new shopping app for the holiday season and that 82 percent of consumers that have apps plan to use them to save money on gifts.

1. A website that has been programmed to display differently on a mobile device as compared to a computer
2. It is not an ‘app’
So, what is a mobile site?
For those of you who 'cut corners' or 'were efficient with your time' (depending on how you look at it) when it came to studying, you'll get this analogy.
A mobile site is to a standard (computer) site as CliffsNotes are to the original book.
Mobile sites are designed to load quickly and look good on a smart phone's smaller screen. As with CliffsNotes, a mobile site gives you the highlights and selected details.
An analogy…
►Mobile friendly sites typically do NOT contain all of the information and certainly not all the graphics and bells and whistles from the primary site. (less data to download)
►Roughly ½ of the mobile devices do not support FLASH, so very little animation is used on mobile sites. Additionally, the animation can slow the site down.
►Typically has simplified navigation
