THE SITE

INTRODUCTION

The first main step in designing for any project is “THE SITE”, an important factorthat must be considered in that regard is the selection.

In other words, we can say, “a site is a piece of land rece ived to accommodate aparticular architectural entity. The architectural entity gives the site, scale andcharacter; the site embraces the architectural entity and provides its two dimensionsso that three dimensional entities could become a reality. What follow is the fact thatboth, the site and the project are inevitable for each other and that both go together. It is common saying that, to every site, there is an ideal project, & too every project

there is an ideal site, implies that the site should be selected after careful considerationso that the two ideal could meet each other.

Site planning in its narrow sense involves the disposition of space for appropriateuses. The positioning of structure to provide effective relationship (well propositionedmasses with provide effective relationship (well propositioned masses with attractiveout look and good orientation). The provision of access to structure in expenditures, attractive and safe manner, the design of the services, walks streets, parking facilities, drainage and utilities, preservation of the natural advantage of the site, and itsenhancement by landscaping.

In its larger sense, site planning involves consideration of the site in relation to thephysical pattern and economic growth trends of the larger area of which it is part. Ananalysis of the area should be made bases on population and traffic patterns, anddirections of growth.

DEFINITION OF SITE

The site is a particular piece of land reserved to accommodate a particular

architectural entity. The architectural entity gives the site scale and character. The siteembraces the architectural entity and provides it two dimensions, so that the threedimensional entity could become a reality.

What follows is the fact that both the site and the project are inevitable for each otherand that both go together, we may thus say that, for every site there is an ideal projectand for every ideal project there is an ideal site.

But it is rarely possible that every site could have its ideal project to accommodate andvice-versa. The task of an architect is hence to select the site, which best compiles withthe project requirements and also suggests the project, which suites the siteconditions.

It is also a matter of fact that, the conditions and requirement, to match the site and theproject, vary site to site and development to development. But certain needs form thebasis for judging all projects.

SITE SELECTION CRITERIA

While selecting the site the major consideration was to locate the complex indeveloped urban area. It should be located with in the city premises not in

suburban areas. Orphanage should be visible but not in the city center.

Study of the site is first and foremost pre-requisite while designing a project andspecial consideration for designing complex for children. The basic considerationfor any project is conveyance, provision of all the utility services and infrastructurein the area. The site selection criteria for the children village are given below:

1.  In site selection the first important point is its features, the features as the shape, the orientation, topography, drainage, soil and accessibility must be carefully keepin mind.

2.  The second important point in the site selection is the site should be appropriate insize so that future expansion can be easily.

3.  The third and most important point is that, the supply of utilities in which gas, electricity, water and drainage services must be beside the selected site becausethrough this we can minimize the expenses of our project.
