Property Tax Renewal on May 2 Ballot for Silverton
I n the May 2nd, 2017 election, voters in Silverton will get to decide whether or not to extend a property tax levy for four more
years, from 2018 to 2021. This 5.0 mil levy was first approved by voters in 2001 and has been renewed three times for four years each time since then. Because this property tax is a renewal, it will not increase the amount of money you are already used to paying each year on your property tax bill. The amount of dollars this tax costs a property owner is the same in 2018 as it was in 2001, so if this levy is renewed again your tax bill will not increase. The levy raises $344,124 each year for the Village of Silverton’s General Fund. This funding essentially pays for five out of the twelve months of cost the Village pays the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office for law enforcement services. It also roughly equates to the amount of money it will cost Silverton to resurface Gardner, Grand, Woodford, Lillian, Walker, and Oak this year. The current levy was approved by Silverton voters in May of 2013, and
enables the Village to assess 5.0 mils from 2014 to 2017. Voters will decide on May 2nd whether or not to extend this levy for four more years starting in 2018. Should you have any questions about
this levy on the May ballot, please
email Village Manager Tom Carroll at
[email protected] or call him
at 513-792-6560.

Third Annual Taste of Silverton
STREET SWEEPING
The Village of Silverton will be contracting with a street sweeping service to have all of the streets in the Village swept using the latest in sweeping equipment. This will take place Monday May 22nd thru Friday May 26th 7am-4pm. Street sweeping removes the accumulation of trash and dirt within the gutters, and helps in Keeping Silverton Beautiful. Street sweeping also helps maintain an aesthetically pleasing environment as well as complying with various Federal and State Water Quality requirements.
Key to the Program Success DO NOT park your car on the street between the hours of 6:00am and 5:00pm on scheduled sweeping days
DO NOT place any lumber, bricks, basketball hoops or other foreign objects in the gutter or street
DO NOT rake, weep, blow leaves or other debris into the
street or gutter
DO pick up your trash cans from the street after trash pick
-up day if it is the day before the street sweeping day. Remember, the street sweeper is a large vehicle, which requires a lot of space to maneuver in the street.
Thank you for your cooperation and help in Keeping Silverton Beautiful!
Save the date for the Third Annual Taste of Silverton, which will be held on Saturday, June 24th from 4:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. at Meier’s Winery. The Annual Memorial Day Parade will be held Monday, May 29. The parade will kickoff at 9:45 AM at the

Stage II Redevelopment Plans for Ag47 Approved on March 16
T he growth of our community is dependent on service-spirited and
innovative-driven individuals who make significant contributions to the Village of Silverton. On February 23, 2017 the Ohio City/County Management Association proudly presented Mark Wendling, Silverton’s second village manager, with the Innovation Award. This award was to recognize his service and innovation in the Village of Silverton, specifically the facilitation of the cashless land exchange with the Cincinnati
Public Schools that enabled the construction on the new Silverton Paideia School site. Mr. Wendling’s service and initiatives in the Village of Silverton have brought about many developments in the Village. The innovative land exchange between Silverton and CPS also laid the groundwork for the major redevelopment that will begin this summer in the area around the former Silverton school site. This $30 million redevelopment will expand our community’s property tax base by 15% on a
mere 2% of our land area. Once completed, the redevelopment should add 250 new employees and approximately 300 new residents to Silverton. Mr. Wendling served as the Silverton manager between 2003 and 2011. He left service in Silverton to become the Assistant City Manager in Fairfield and was appointed Fairfield’s City Manager in April 2015. The Village of Silverton congratulates Mr. Wendling for this award and deeply thanks him for his innovations while serving in Silverton.
Former Silverton City Manager Wins Innovations Award
The $30-40 million redevelopment of the former Silverton Paideia school site took a significant step forward in the middle of March. The project will be named Ag47, playing on the “silver” theme by using the scientific name and atomic number for the element silver. Village Council reviewed the second of three planning rounds from the development team of the Miller-Valentine Group and Jeffrey R. Anderson Real Estate. The plans include 205 luxury apartments and townhomes and more than 60,000 square feet of commercial office and retail along Montgomery Road. Once built, the project will add 15% or more to Silverton’s property tax base on less than 2% of our community’s acreage. The developers expect to start moving
earth in late spring or early summer. The early phase of the work will include completing the demolition of six of the seven remaining structures on the site, regarding the site, and removing organic materials like grasses, shrubs and trees. The developers will submit for the
third and final zoning approval over
the summer and once this is
reviewed, a permit will be issued and
full construction of the residential
component will commence.
2017 Council Curb Side Chats
The Village Council will continue their popular “curbside chats” this summer. Come out to these four community meetings to meet our Mayor and members of council, learn about what’s going on in the Village, share ideas, ask questions, and voice concerns with other resi-dents. Make sure to come join us and do your part to be more active in our community! May 11 Kenton near Section June 8 East Gatewood July 13 Aldon Lane August 10 Tamworth Circle
All meetings start at 7:00 p.m.
N inety-five percent of property owners in Silverton take tremendous pride in their properties. Most people mow their lawn regularly, keep their yards
tidy, maintain their buildings, clean out the gutters, paint when needed, and pick up litter and debris frequently. Over the last three years, the Village has issued over 1,000 letters asking property owners to fix one or more property maintenance issues. The vast majority of Silverton residents have willingly complied.
Some have even thanked Code Enforcement Officer, Jim Replogle for the prompting to get the work done. Sometimes we all need a little prompting to get the job done. Five percent of property owners have failed to meet Silverton’s code standards. These property owners refuse to take pride in their own property and make the rest of the community suffer as a result. Property owners who have failed to meet Silverton Maintenance Code standards will be the focus of the Village’s code enforcement effort in 2017. The Village has adopted the International Property Maintenance Code, the Hamilton County health code, and our own zoning laws to ensure that everyone meets a basic standard
of upkeep and habitability. The few individuals in our community who for one reason or another have refused to take care of their property will be the focus of the Village’s efforts in the coming months. The Village of Silverton understands that pressing issues such as financial and health issues are not uncommon. If that is preventing you for complying with the property maintenance code, let us know and we will be happy to work with you to ensure that we are abiding by the property maintenance
Code as well as our mission to Keep Silverton Beautiful. Please make sure that you are one of the 95%. Take extra pride in maintaining your property by complying with all the Silverton’s Property Maintenance code in 2017. And help us all by letting us know if your neighbor’s lack of maintenance is negatively impacting you. Contact Meredith George at 513-792-6561 or [email protected] and give us the address of the property owner who needs to be reminded of their duty to meet minimum standards. We appreciate your effort in Keeping Silverton
Beautiful and safe for all!
