INDOOR BOWLS REPORT
Well its half way through the year and the In-
door Bowls team is growing every week with
five to six mats the normal now and if we
grow much more I may have to ask the powers
to be if we can extend the polished wooden
floor so that we can lay a seventh mat.
To all those Indoor players who are coming to
the Mid Winter Luncheon, on the Thursday
the 19th of June, Please, Please buy your tick-
ets as soon as possible as the cut off day will
be Thursday the 12th of June, when I have to
put through the orders to Scott.
There is a visit from the Howick RSA Indoor
Bowls teams on Sunday the 27th of July and if
you wish to play, please see the Games book
and register your name for that Indoor Bowls
day.
Well as I always say enjoy yourselves and en-
joy your bowls.

FISHING CLUB REPORT
April/May 2014
We had a fishing trip booked for 14th April which was
postponed because of bad weather to 28th April but
the weather on that day was no better so we had to cancel. As a policy, if there is a “strong weather advi-
sory” issue by Metservice we do not go out on the
briny. With no fishing since 10th March there were some
eager anglers as we set out on Monday 12th May in
clear blue skies and a fabulous autumn day. We had
seen reports that other fishing club members were having difficulties getting more than a couple of
snapper to take home now that the size limit has been
increased form 27cm to 30cm. It could be that they are fishing closer in around Tiri so we are grateful
that Rex on Kiwi Angler is prepared to motor us over
an hour out to his favourite spots. This time it was an
area most of us do not recall fishing before being in 50 metres of water North of Kawerau Island.
The fishing started slowly but after one shift we
struck a patch of Kahawai and they stayed around for a good few hours enabling us to catch and keep about
fifty as well as releasing a good number. We persisted
in the same spot and after a while the snapper bites commenced and stayed long enough for us to catch
our limit of seven each. There were also a couple of
Trevally caught with Tony Cann’s 2.66Kg fish put-
ting him on the leader board for that species. Coinci-dentally the largest Kahawai caught and weighed was
also exactly 2.66Kg and puts Graeme Barlow on top
of the leader board for that species. Talking about leader boards we have settled on Satur-
day 26th July for this year’s prize giving so put that
date in your diaries. Full details will be sent out in mid-June and those that have trophies from last year
would they please return them to the Club leaving
them in the box under the table beside our notice
board so we can get them engraved for this year’s winners.
As mentioned last month we have ceased the raffles
due to poor patronage on the Fridays but are hoping to recommence them back on a Thursday at 4pm
when daylight saving comes back in late September.
However we do but need some volunteers to assist
Ted if there are to be reintroduced. We would be in-terested in hearing from anyone who is willing to as-
sist Ted with the commitment of once a month (or
less if we can get a bigger number of volunteers for a roster). Please call the Club Captain on the number
below and leave a message if you are willing to go on
the roster.

OUTDOOR BOWLS REPORT
Highlight for June was our closing Day. That cer-
tainly was a wonderful occasion enjoyed by all
members. However Tuesdays competition and
Wednesday and Saturday Roll ups continue as
usual.
RSA Members are urged to make use of all facilities
offered by our club.
8 BALL REPORT
May Report Another month has rushed past with a Trophy Tournament on the 3rd won by Merv McNab and Keith Bate, 28 members competed for the Trophy (photo below). Also photo of Dick Strumpher winner of our Men’s Singles held 5th April. The other club days were well attended with 36,32 and 33 members present. We could surely use another table to give our Mem-bers an opportunity to play more games. On the 25th 20 of our Members went to Warkworth RSA for an afternoon of friendly games, a great afternoon at their RSA. However unfortunately they came out in front 2 games, 14-12 in their favour, I think last year the deficit was 5 games, so who is improving?! In June we have the Women's and Men's Singles Championships on the 7th and 14th. Svend Jensen Club Captain
