Dear Valued Members.
Last month I sent out a survey and the response that
we received has been overwhelming and positive.
This has probably been one of the most successful
surveys that I have ever done and from your feedback I now have a much better vision for the future of our
club.
My thanks go out to all of you who participated.
EXCISE TAX INCREASE
As from 1st July 2014 there has been an increase in
Excise Tax which unfortunately means that we will
need to increase our prices effective from that date.
The bad news is:
Glasses of beer and wine will increase by 10 cents.
Schooners or Handles will increase by 20 cents Small jugs will increase by 30 cents
Large Jugs will increase by 50 cents
Pint bottles will increase by 20 cents Quart bottles will increase by 50 cents
Glass of House wine will increase by 10 cents
Small carafes of house wine will increase by 20 cents
Large carafes of house wine will increase by 50 cents
Meal prices should in fact be increased as this if the
norm but before we do that I thought it wise to look at
other options. When these have been exhausted and there is absolutely no other way, then only will we
have to increase. I will keep you informed.
Best regards
Chris

WOMEN’S SECTION REPORT
Hello Ladies—firstly I must apologise for not doing a report for the June Newsletter, no excuses except I forgot. In May we had our Birthday lunch which was very well attended and it was won-derful to see so many visitors from other RSA’s, it was a bit unfor-tunate the entertainment was a let down but I will try harder next year. June Ladies Day saw 74 members attend which was great
and I am very sorry our advertised speaker was unable to attend as he had an emergency, but fortunately Jocelyn Stubbing was able to step in for us at the last minute and what a great job she did
THANK YOU SO MUCH JOCELYN.
Our entertainment for July is singer Amanda Collins and perhaps
her friend as well.
Those of us from the Women’s section who went on the bus trip to the Ruakaka races had a great day, so keep your eye on the no-
tice board early next time as I will arrange another one hopefully
before daylight saving finishes.

INDOOR BOWLS REPORT Well we have reached the middle of the year and the Indoor Bowls happy family are still enjoying the Tuesday and Thursday afternoons of friendly competitive games. Both playing days are seeing up to six mats being used as new
players are arriving almost each week.
A number of players are enjoying there well earned overseas
holidays and I would like to thank those players who have stepped in to help with running of club days, allowing every-
thing to run very smoothly.
Thursday the 19th of June was a special day, as the Indoor bowls club held its mid winter Luncheon, with good food, good entertainment and a good time being enjoyed by all who
attended.
Although there was some trepidation as our Restaurant chef
resigned the week before the mid winter luncheon, our stand in chef did an amazing job and everyone acknowledged the wonderful display and variety of the food. Ron Megerney
8 BALL REPORT
Two trophy tournaments were played this month, Women's Singles played on the 7th and won by Sue Noakes, and Men's
Singles played on the 14th and won by Keith Bate.
As we approach the halfway mark for 2014 we have had quite a number of new players joining our section. In the last week mem-ber no.70 joined. In my opinion this is an all time record for the 8
Ball section.
On the 21st we had a record number of players turn up (43!) for a club day. As we can only cope with 40 players max, 3 players
missed out. An extra pool table is urgently needed!?!

KEV REPORT
At the 2014 AGM of the Kings Empire Veterans (New Zealand) Incorporated held in Rotorua, Sid Ball of the Silverdale Branch was elected as National President. Also elected to the National Executive Committee were Reg Canty, Selwyn Currie and Frank Townley of this branch. Mark Harris accepted the position of
Honorary Auditor.
Moves are afoot to raise the profile of the KEV with a view to attracting new members to our organisation. We would like to see more of our existing members attend our regular monthly meet-ings at the RSA. Guest speakers, raffle and good fellowship fea-ture. Time 2.00pm second Monday of the month. Contact Tony Marsden on 421 0093 for membership criteria and further informa-tion. As heard elsewhere MAKE THE CALL.
Golf Section News Update (Rub of the Green)
Firstly congratulations to John Marston for playing an excel-lent round at Howick Golf Club and collecting the Jacket once again. Howick Golf Club with its magnificent views proved a
test for many members, but an excellent day of beautiful sun-shine, great company and great bar saw everyone well satis-fied. Being the day the clocks changed it was interesting to note that one keen member turned his clock the wrong way and showed up at 5.00am for a 7.15am departure, a good keen
player!
Pukekohe Golf Club was our next tour date in early May, well, we discovered why we have committees, an eagle eyed
treasurer, spotted that the Pres had managed to book Pakaranga as well as Pukekohe and proceeded to mix both set of arrangements. However enough said and once again a challenging round was had by all. This time it was a new winner of the jacket, congratulations go to Troy Sealy who proved an excellent recipient who managed to set the trend by getting the Jacket dry cleaned. A big thanks to Tiny, out lat-
est Coach Driver, and to the Bayes coach we travelled in.
June’s tournament was at Whangaparaoa Golf Club, that course is in the best condition for many months, a tight battle ensued with Paul Askew looking comfortable until a 10 on the 18th saw him crumble to second behind Alan Harris taking the Jacket. Some players did find the conditions challenging with Alan Holsted setting a possible new course record for most Golf! If you have an hour to discuss with Alan the finer points of his game and how Geoff Horne came into play, a
most interesting yarn.
Our AGM is at 4.00pm on the 6th of July at the RSA full details on the golf section notice board. Do not forget subs are also due, while John Marston is overseas Owen Smith will
take your subs.
Final note a sad farewell to a good friend and associate of many of the golf section Ian (Catflap) Bromley who departed from us on Sunday 22nd June 2014, our thoughts go to his
Wife and Family.

RUBY’S SATURDAY LUNCH DATE AND
LINE DANCE SOCIALS As promised, brand new Saturday occasional lunch date
and relaxed style shorter line dancing socials, providing a
chance to catch up with your line dance and non line
dancer friends.
These will be commencing on Saturday 19th July then 16th August & 20th September. If it proves popular fur-
ther dates will be announced. The cost is $5 for line danc-
ers and free for invited non line dancer friends.
You can send in requests to Ruby at
[email protected] beforehand to enable her to
prepare a playlist for continuous play for some of the time.
This is a great opportunity for a convivial get together for
all line dancers and their guests to enjoy some free time,
and puts the social back into social.
Also Ruby will be back with a 4 hour Roaring 20’s themed
social at the RSA on Sunday 19th October, so plenty to
look forward to. We were hoping that the new pub and snack lunch menu
would be up and running by the 19th July, however this
will now be commencing at a later date.
