The SigmaPlot Network Installer

SigmaPlot comes with a network installation program that allows network managers to perform 2tasks: First, if you have purchased a “network license” that specifies the number of clients that cansimultaneously use SigmaPlot, the installer performs the task of installing the Sentinel® licensemanager. This task must be done if you are installing a network licensed version of SigmaPlot Second, if you have purchased either a “network license” or a “site license”, the installerperforms the task of placing a set of client installation files on the network that users can use toinstall SigmaPlot on their client machines. Common information (like serial number, organizationname, etc.) can be preset so to simplify the user’s installation process. This task is optional ifyou would prefer to distribute the software via CD to clients, but it simplifies the distribution oflicense file and serial number information. If you have a site license and do not wish to create acommon client installation directory, there is no need to run the SigmaPlot network installer.

Installing the Sentinel License Manager for SigmaPlot To install SigmaPlot on your network server:

1. Insert the CD-ROM into the appropriate drive on your network server. The autoplaymenu should start automatically. If not, find autoplay.exe on the CD and launch it.

2. Choose Network Installation to begin setup.



3. On the User Information Screen, enter the organization name and the serial number

found on the CD case.



4. Choose the network installation type you are performing. Choose Network if you

purchased a license that specifies the number of users who can use SigmaPlotsimultaneously. Choose Site if you purchased a license that allows any users at yoursite to use SigmaPlot with no simultaneous use restriction.

5. When you reach the Locate License File screen, use the Browse button to navigate to

the license file supplied by your Systat vendor. If you have not received your license fileyet, you can use the trial network license file located in the installer directory. This willallow you to use the software for 30 days until you receive the license from the vendor. See the instructions below on how to update your license below.



6. If you chose “Network” installation, you will be asked for a path in which to install the

network license management software. Choose the desired location.

7. Next choose the location into which you wish to install SigmaPlot client setup files. If

you don’t want to install setup files because you would rather have clients install from aCD, leave this field blank.

Configuring the License Manager

In normal circumstances, The SigmaPlot Network Installer will install the Sentinel licensemanager, start the license manager service, and install the SigmaPlot network license. This



section will explain how you can start and stop the license manager service and how you canadd or remove licenses manually.

The Sentinel license manager software is installed by default in C:\Program Files\SSILM8_02. Navigate to that directory and double-click on the icon labeled WlmAdmin.exe.

The WlmAdmin application has browser view in the left which shows you servers andstandalone licenses. If you have a network license, you will want to look at “Subnet Servers”. Open this branch of the browser tree.

You should see the server upon which you installed the Sentinel License Manager. If youexpand that tree, you should see the SigmaPlot 10 license as well as any other license that theSentinel license manager is monitoring (which may include applications from vendors besidesSystat Software, Inc.). These licenses are usually kept in the LSERVRC file in the licensemanager directory. If you click on the license, the pane on the right will show you details aboutthe license such as how long it is valid and how many users are currently using the license.

Normally you will add and remove the SigmaPlot license via the SigmaPlot Network Installer. But under some circumstances you may wish to add or remove license to the Sentinel servermanually. You can do this using “Add Feature”.



To add a license manually

1. Right click on the server in the browser window.

2. Choose “Add Feature” / “From a File”,

3. Choose “To Server” if you don’t care whether or not the license is reactivated if theserver is shut down and restarted.

4. Choose “To Server and its File” if you want the license to be reactivated if the server isever shut down. The latter command will add the license string to the LSERVRC file inthe license manager directory.

To Remove a license manually:

1. Right click the license name in the browser and choose “Remove License”

Starting the License Manager



Normally the license manager service is started automatically. To start and stop the servicemanually.

1. Click on the Start Menu, choose “Settings” and “Control Panel” and start the“Administrative Tools” applet.

2. Double-click “Services” to launch it.



3. Find “Sentinel RMS Developer Kit License Manager”

4. Select “Action” and then “Stop” to stop the service.



5. Select “Action” and then “Start” to start the service.

Install on Individual Client Computers

At this point you no longer need the software CD. The client installation (performed withadministrative rights on NT and Windows 2000 workstations), copies SigmaPlot files toc:\Program Files\SigmaPlot\SPW10 folder on the client PC, updates the registry on the client,and creates Start Menu entries on the client.To install the SigmaPlot client on a client computer:

1. Navigate to the folder on the server that has the SigmaPlot installation files (forexample: c:\Program Files\SPWSetup).Click Setup.exe. The SigmaPlot Installation screen appears.

2. Follow the instructions as they appear on the screen.3. Repeat this process for each client computer.

Silent Installation In addition you can silently install SigmaPlot on the client machine. The command to silently

install SigmaPlot from the CD is as follows (if your CD drive is drive “D:”):If you have a license file use the following command:

msiexec /i D:\SigmaPlot\SPWInstall.msi SSI_USERLICFILE=[your license file path]

\StandAlone_Annual /qb

I If you have a license key to install SigmaPlot you need to use the following command: msiexec /i D:\SigmaPlot\SPWInstall.msi SSI_KEY1=12345678 SSI_KEY2=87654321 /

qb (The license codes above are examples only. Use the license key supplied with your software)If the client installations files are on the network, you can substitute the network path for“D:\SigmaPlot\” in the example above. Also, to enable SigmaPlot and SigmaStat integration youcan add the SSI_STAT command. However you must install SigmaStat first for this option towork. For example:

msiexec /i [SigmaPlot Installation Files Location]\SPWInstall.msi SSI_USERLICFILE=

[your license file path]\StandAlone_Annual SSI_STAT=1 /qb

Configure Client Computers

Normally, the license manager will be detected automatically at program startup. However, ifyour client computers are having trouble locating the license manager, or if your network is largeand you want to avoid a search of the network, set the LSHOST or LSFORCEHOST



environment variable in the client computer to the name or IP address of the license managercomputer. To Set the Environment Variable in Client Computers:

Windows NT

1. Double click on the System icon, from the Control Panel and selectEnvironment tab.

2. Type LSHOST in the Variable field.

3. Enter the license manager’s host’s name or the host’s IP address in theValue field. (Example: LSHOST=10.10.10.10)

4. Click Set.

5. Click OK.

Windows 2000 or XP To define the IP address (LSHOST environment variable) of the server (the PC that has theSentinel License Server) on each client computer:

1. Select Settings/Control Panel, from the Start menu.

2. Double-click the System icon. The System Properties dialog appears.



3. Click the Advanced tab.

4. Select Environment Variables.

5. The Environment Variables dialog appears.

6. Click New in the System Variables field.

7. Type LSHOST in the Variable Name field, and the IP address in theVariable Value field.

8. Click OK three times to accept changes, and close the New SystemVariable, Environment Variables, and System Properties dialogs.

Installing the SigmaPlot WebViewerThe SigmaPlot WebViewer is an ActiveX control freely distributed from the Systat web site. If thiscontrol is not installed the first time a SigmaPlot graph is viewed on a web page, the WebVieweris automatically installed. Then you can view the graphs in high resolution on the Intranet orInternet. A SigmaPlot user can create WebViewer graphs and post them on internal Intranets or theInternet. With the WebViewer, a non-SigmaPlot user can view SigmaPlot graphs using theInternet Explorer browser. Corporate firewalls may not allow the downloading of the WebViewerActiveX control from the Systat web site, so users can manually install the WebViewer by doingthe following:

1. Copy the WebViewer to a server - copy \webviewer\SigmaPlotWebviewer.exe on theSigmaPlot CD to the server (this is done once)

2. Install the WebViewer - Anyone who wants to view SigmaPlot WebViewer graphs caninstall the WebViewer by double-clicking on SigmaPlotWebviewer.exe on the server

NOTE: when you install SigmaPlot, the WebViewer is automatically installed.



Updating SigmaPlot Library FilesThe SigmaPlot installer will install new library, template and settings files in the SigmaPlotprogram directory. These files are not automatically installed into each user’s directory untilSigmaPlot is first run by each user. The files are:

· SPW.INI - user's settings for SigmaPlot· Gallery.JGG - the Graph gallery File· SigmaPlot Macro Library.jnb - the standard macro library, and user-defined macros· Layout.jnt - the layout file used in Format/Arrange Graphs· Template.jnt - a page template file· Standard.jfl - standard equations library and user-defined equations· GraphWiz.ini - used for storing the Graph Wizard settings· HistogramWiz.ini - used for storing the Histogram Wizard settings· Spw32.opt - program options

If the file installed in the program directory is newer than the one in the user directory, SigmaPlotwill ask you whether or not you want to use the newer version. Answer "No" to preserve anychanges you have made to the library files. If you answer “Yes”, a backup copy of the old filewill be made and the new file will replace the old file. If you have changed any of the library or template files then you can add your changes to thenew copies of the files. For example if you have changed the Standard Curves macro in theSigmaPlot Macro Library, then inside of SigmaPlot: 1) Open "My Documents\SigmaPlot\SPW9\SigmaPlot Macro Library.JNB".2) Delete "Standard Curves" from the "SigmaPlot Sample Macros" section.3) Open " My Documents\SigmaPlot\SPW9\SigmaPlot Macro Library.JNB.BAK".4) Select "Standard Curves" from the "SigmaPlot Sample Macros" section and "Copy" it.5) Select the "SigmaPlot Samples Macro" section in the "My Documents" version of SigmaPlot

Macro Library.JNB and "Paste" the Standard Curves macro.6) Rename the macro to remove the "Copy of" text prepended to the macro name. (The directory names above are the default names for default installation. They might bedifferent for non-default installations.)

Uninstall SigmaPlotTo uninstall SigmaPlot from a client computer:

1. Choose Settings/Control Panel, from the Start menu.2. Open the Add/Remove Programs item.3. Select SigmaPlot 10.4. Click OK.5. Follow the instructions on the screen.

To uninstall SigmaPlot from a server:

6. Choose Settings/Control Panel, from the Start menu.7. Open the Add/Remove Programs item.8. Select SigmaPlot 10.



Once you have uninstalled the Sentinel License Manager from the server, client installations ofSigmaPlot will not run because they will no longer have a license available.

If You Have an Earlier Version of the SentinelLicense Manager Software

SigmaPlot uses Sentinel License Manager version 8.02 to manage network licenses. Sentinelversion 8.02 cannot run on a server if Sentinel version 7.x or earlier is already installed andrunning. If you are running an earlier version you have 2 choices:

· Install the SigmaPlot Sentinel License Manager on a different server on the network.· Remove the previous version of the Sentinel license manager and import the licenses it

is managing into version the new version 8.02 license manager. If you choose the first choice, just restart your installation process on the new server and followthe instructions. If you choose the second choice follow these steps

1) Save the license file from the earlier version of the license manager. The file is calledLSERVRC. Select it in the Sentinel directory and copy it.

2) Place LSERVRC in a separate directory where you can find it after uninstalling the

Sentinel Software.



3) Follow the instructions in Installing the Sentinel License Manager for SigmaPlot4) When finished, follow the instructions for adding a license manually in Configuring the

License Manager to import the LSERVRC file saved in step 2.
