CHARLOTTE COLLEGE

TIME
TO
INTRODUCE
THE 1956 EDITION OF
PUBLISHED ANNUALLY BY
THE STUDENTS OF CHARLOTTE COLLEGE
CHARLOTTE, NORTH CAROLINA
FOREWORD"All the world's a stage
and the men and womenmerely players. This
quotation from William
Shakespeare is becoming
more meaningful to the
Students of Charlotte
College as they continue
on life's journey. At
the culmination of our
college career, we feel
that we have reached another
stage in the drama of life.
For others who are planning
entrance into higher insti-
tutions of education, this
is just another primary step
towards their goal. As
we take our places in the
world, may our inspirational
outlook enable us to say with
the poet, Robert Browning:
"Grow old along with me!
The best is vet to be.
The last of life for which the
first was made:
Our times are in his hand
Who saith a whole I planned
Youth shows but half; trust God
See all, nor be afraid.'

The Staff of the 1956 edition of the Si Si
dedicates this yearbook to Mrs. Frances B. Hoyle in appreciation
of her contribution to the development, planning and

CHEERLEADERS
For the first time in the history of Charlotte College,
a group of students have taken the initiative and formeda group of cheerleaders to back the Charlotte College
Owls. The following students met the requirements:
Gwen Dalv - Head Cheerleader, Robert Gilland, AnnPadgett, Nancv Fisher, Pat Kendrick, Barbara Duck-worth.
The cheering section has furnished much needed in-
spiration for the team. The students made their own out-
fits and attended the games because they were interested.
BASKETBALLThe 1955-56 Charlotte College Owls found
the going rough through the mediocre basket
ball season, but thev showed hustle and de-
termination in even one of their games. Un-
der the watchful eve of Coach Buddv Smith.
the Owls showed promise of having one of
the greatest teams on record.
The Owls were led bv the marvelous shoot-
ing of Jerrv Gaudet, and the fancv stepping
Bradford Mills. The team leaned heavih
upon Ross Johnston, Johnny Culp and Bobbv
Gregg. These starters, however, were pressed
all season for their berths bv Billv Mills. Rae-
ford Brown, Earl Beckham and Merwin
Foard.
Although the Owls suffered manv defeats
during the season, almost all the games were
won by very close margins. Coach Smith
always said, "I don't mind getting beat bv a
better team; therefore, we should never have
been beaten."
The team deserves every word of praise pos-
sible for their wonderful performance during
the 1955-56 season. Most of the plavers work
during the day. attend school in the evening
and play ball at night. After practice thev go
home and prepare their studies. This is a verv
important part in each plaver's life, because
they must maintain a high scholastic average.
We, the students of Charlotte College,
would like to extend our gratitude to the C.C.
Owls, and their coach. Buddv Smith. Al-
though man) students were not fortunate
enough to attend all the games, we feel that
the team has been a great benefit to the
school. I lere is hoping that next year the Owlswill have the greatest team ever produced at
Charlotte College.
