Several members who were instrumental in leading the charge to “Celebrate Ray” then spoke, beginning with Jeff Romine who served as District Governor that year. He spoke about the “Bigger Better Bolder” goal which fit with Ray’s official theme “Building Communities Bridging Continents” and several memorable events that year, including the District Conference attended by over 300 people. Ron Gaber spoke about the honor it was to chair the Celebrate Ray committee which served from September 5, 2008 to July 9, 2011. Just under $28,000 was raised for various purposes. After expenses the remaining $7,000 was contributed for way finding signs. Matt Eichor spoke about an event celebrating Missouri’s past and present Rotary International Presidents which was held in Columbia on July 31, 2010. Included were Russell Greiner 1913-14, Raymond Havens (1922-23), Robert E. Lee Hills (1934-35) and, of course, Ray. As part of the program, RI President Ray was roasted. It was a lot of fun! Ralph Cupelli, who served a second term as president that year, spoke about two memorable RI conventions - Montreal and New Orleans. He said District 6040 had the highest percentage of members in attendance in New Orleans. The program concluded with a video of a Youth Exchange Student Choir in New Orleans and the sharing of 2010-11 memories during Happy Bucks.
