Summary1. The semiconductor industry works on preventing global

warming through its manufacturing processes. The industry expects to reduce PFC emissions by 10% by 2010 as a part of its environmental protection program. The industry also expects to improve efficiency of power usage by 30% by 2010.

2. Semiconductor miniaturization and efficient, advanced chip development results in the improved energy saving capabilities of end products.

World Semiconductor Council (WSC):Environment Safety Health – Task Force (ESH-TF)• PFC Reduction Program: 10% Between 1995 and

2010– Progressing as scheduled. Best practices will continue to

be shared for more reduction– An affiliated company from China expressed interest in

joining the PFC program, which increases the program joining the PFC program, which increases the program utilization ratio of worldwide semiconductor production, making the program more effective.

• PFC(Perfluoro carbon): a greenhouse gas that has 6,000 to 12,000 times more influence on global warming.

• Target Figures– Announced as expected, indicating the industry’s

commitment to PFC reduction. For 2001-2010, expected targets are –30% in power usage, -45% in water purchase, and –40% in waste volume.
