Craft idea
The mission of TRiO-SSS at CMU
is to assist participants in
achieving their academic
potential, gain valuable life skills
and expand cultural horizons
through one-on-one interactions
and group activities.
The FishBowl is the TRiO
tutoring center that is available
to all TRiO participants located
in HH 137. The lounge will be
available for tutoring and
studying throughout the fall
semester from 8:30am to
4:30pm Monday through
Friday.
The semester draws nigh, then begins again...
Keep in mind that TRiO
participants are required to
participate in a minimum of
two activities per semester.

Wow! What an exciting evolution of connection we have seen in
our new TRiO office space. We have enjoyed interacting with you all
so much more in the new location with a real home-base feel. The infec-
tious energy being pumped into TRiO from our newest members,
must also be recognized. It has
been a joy watching the dynamic,
creative, caring participants who
have joined our ranks add to our
already amazing core—its almost
like we have connective super
powers!
I hope you joined us on the Plaza for the (second annual) National
First-Generation Celebration. The amazingly generous President Fos-
ter threw a BBQ and invited EVERYONE on campus to come and
support our First-Gens. If you did not already know, our University
has about a 44% First-Gen student population, in addition to our nu-
merous faculty/staff. Apparently, we were one of the few Universi-
ties in Colorado to have a campus-wide celebration! Thank you all for
coming out and especially for volunteering!!
This time of year it gets easy to check out—especially after the long
Thanksgiving holiday! Take the time off to recharge and set a couple
of goals. Don’t put off catching up on classes, finish the race strong.
If you need to come in and get help with goals or make a “To-Do”
list, we are happy to assist you. We will be in the office Monday-
Wednesday.
Carpe Diem!

Mittens from Sweatpants What you will make: In this project, use old sweatpants to make mittens for kids. This is a great way to recycle the fabric from all those holey, stained sweatpants (and sweatshirts) that no one can wear anymore. The project includes three sizes of patterns, each with two optional applique patterns. This is a good project for new sewers.
As an added bonus at the end of the project, Aunt Annie tells you how to make a scarf from old sweatpants, and recommends other websites w ith more applique patterns and 20 ways to recycle old jeans (and sweatpants.)
Here's what you need: Computer paper
Old sweatpants in two colors
¼"- (5 mm) wide elastic
Paper scissors
Heavy fabric shears
Small safety pin
Sewing machine (or needle and thread)
Straight pins
Sewing thread
Needle
Pencil
Optional: Glue stick
This project is rated EASY to do.
Come into the office or go here to print pattern: http://www.auntannie.com/Textiles/Mittens/
