• 'Our Health, Our Care, Our Say' a government white paper

• The government asked people what they wanted

• People said they want support when they need it, quickly, easily and in a way that fits into their lives.

WHAT IS PERSONALISATION?

• Personalisation means people have more choice and control over the services they receive.

• People are given support and information to help them make decisions and meet their goals

• The government want all local authorities to have a set number of people using personalised services by 2011

What is self directed support?

• In the old system, professionals made all the decisions about the support people could have.

• Self directed support is a new way of making sure people are in control of the support they need to live their life as they choose.

What is self directed support?

• A personal budget is the amount of money you need for your services.

• The council decide what your personal budget is by looking at the Self assessment questionnaire

• Some people manage their support on their own.

• Others need help - from family or friends or people who are paid to help.

What is a self assessment questionnaire?

• A Self Assessment Questionnaire (SAQ) is the way the council finds out what people need

• The questions are about different areas of your life

• You can answer the questions on your own or with help from someone you trust.

• The council uses this information to decide what money you need to arrange your support.

What is a resource allocation system?

• A Resource Allocation System (RAS) is how the council work out what money you should have to meet your needs

What is a support plan?

• A support plan is where you decide what is important to you and what you would like to change in your life

• A support plan will look at what’s working and not working for you and what support you need to make things better

• A support plan does not have to be complicated; you can make it as detailed or simple as you want.

Walsall’s approach to SAQ/RAS development

• Walsall to develop one SAQ and one RAS for all client groups

• Based on individual needs and outcomes

• 1st April 2010 Direct Payment recipients will be asked to consider a Personal Budget

• All service users will be go through a personalised process by 2011

• The self assessment will look at every part of your life

•It will help you think about what you want to achieve

•It will look at helping you work out what you need to achieve agreed outcomes
