    I was j ust on the point of beginning extensive

    nent, and following my usual bent of sticking my

    T h i s o f f i c e r ' s w o u n d w a s f a i r l y s e r i o u s a n d n e c e s s i -

    give me the knowledge and influence necessary to

    checkma te the intriguers who were keeping me from
