Dar pentru c nu vroiau s fie surprini, auascuns caul n grota din apropierea satuluiNsal.nspimntati de rzbunarea stpnului, ncazul n care ar fi aflat, ranii nu s-augrbit s-i ia caul din peter. Totui,dup cteva sptmni, unul dintre ei i-aluat inima-n dini i a intrat n peter s

vad ce mai e cu brnza., convins c va gsicaul stricat.Mare i-a fost mirarea cnd l-a gsit n starebun. Brnza i schimbase doar culoareantr-un glbui roiatic, ns era foarte bunla gust, n ciuda mirosului.n cele din urm, stpnul a aflat de ispravaranilor i i-a pedepsit pe nelegiui.Apoi ns, a nceput el nsui s-i inbrnza n peter i aceasta a devenit unuldintre lucrurile cu care i plcea s-i

impresioneze oaspeii.

Aceasta este povestea brnzei de Nsal careconcureaz cu renumitul Camembertfranuzesc i care poate fi gustat nRomnia, n partea de vest a rii.

EN The story of Nsal Cheese

The story of Nsal Cheese began in the oldtimes when the aga region was under therule of a rich and powerful landlord,perhaps from the Roman times.

One day some courageous peasantsbroke the rules and stole some pieces ofcheese from the master as they had becomevery poor. They were only eating polenta (amixture made from boiling water, salt andcorn flour) and this time they wanted tooffer their children a bit more to eat.But as they were afraid to be caught by themasters guards, they hid the cheese in acave at the edge of the Nsal village. Theywere terribly frightened by their mastersrevenge and they didnt dare to take thecheese out of the cave. However, someweeks later, one of the peasants built up hiscourage and entered the cave to check thecheese which he thought would be rottenby then. But surprised he was when hefound the cheese was not spoilt. The cheesewas starting to get a bit reddish from itsinitial pale yellow but it tasted better thanhe expected despite its unpleasant smell.Eventually the landlord discovered thepeasants secret and punished them. But he

also began to keep his cheese in the caveand it became one of the things which hewas very proud of to impress his guests.

This is the story of Nsal cheese whichcompetes with the renowned FrenchCamembert and it can be tasted byeveryone in the western part of Romnia.
