Pastor’s Corner “The God of More

Than Enough” By Martha Noebell

There are so many people with issues that seem to overwhelm them. Whether it is a father out of work, sickness in the home, broken down cars, not enough food on the table, or even a runaway child looking for their own way in the world, our hearts may seem to long for peace.

From experience, I have found that as long as I try to fix the problems without trusting the Lord to deal with them, then I am left feeling frustrated and without hope. Peace comes as I lean on God for the answers and wait on His timing.

At one particular season of my life, I was living far from family and friends. My husband had a job in which he traveled one hour from home. I had a teenage son, a toddler, and I was pregnant. There was barely enough money for food and expenses; except for the gas money to get my husband to work. It was a scary time.

I wish I could say that I immediately filled my heart with an abundance of faith and never doubted God’s ability to bring us through for a single moment. But my attitude was to face things one day at a time. I am so much wiser now. Having seen so many miracles in these recent years I know that He is more than capable of working all things out for our good.

And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose. Romans 8:28 (KJV) The Bible even shares how, in Matthew

15, Jesus saw the multitude was hungry after

listening to Him teach for three days. Jesus being full of faith told the disciples to gather the seven loaves of bread and fishes. He blessed the food and sent the disciples into the crowd with these items. After they all ate and were full, the leftover food filled seven baskets. So what is your concern today? How much faith do you possess? Even faith the size of a grain of a mustard seed is all you need to see the victory in your life.

“…Truly I tell you, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you.” Matthew 17:20 NIV

Bible Verse Show me your ways, O LORD,

teach me your paths; guide me in your truth and teach me, for you are

God my Savior, and my hope is in you all day long. —Psalm 25:4-5

Thought Life can be so confusing. There are so many

choices for us as we decide the values that will govern our lives. So how are we going to find the best way, God's way, to live? We will ask

God to show us! Our hope is in him. Our salvation is in him. So why not ask him to guide us and teach us his truth? Why not expect that

he will make his will known for us? If our hearts are open to his truth and we are seeking his path, he will make his will known.

Prayer O mighty God, the only true guide to life, please

help me to know your will more completely. I want to live for you and to please you. I want others to know of my allegiance to you — not

just because of the words I speak, but also through the character of my conduct. In Jesus' name I ask it. Amen.

Restoring Hope Making A Difference

Becoming A Partnership in Life

THREE STEPS TO MAKING YOUR COMMITMENT

PRAY Be still and ask the Lord. Pray with your family. This is the most important step in preparing your heart to respond to God’s call to action. Ask Him what He would have you give to make this vision a reality at Second Baptist Church. Remember, these are gifts over and above your regular tithes.

STEP OUT IN FAITH Trust God to provide what He lays on your heart to give, even if the amount is more than your current resources can readily identify. Our greatest hopes and dreams are just the beginning for God. Expect the unexpected.

GIVE SACRIFICIALLY “Not equal gifts, but equal sacrifice.” There is no limit to what God will do in and through us if we commit ourselves to sacrificial giving. Ephesians 3:20-21 says, “Now to Him who, by the power that is at work within us, is able to exceedingly, abundantly, far over and above all that we dare ask, think or imagine, to Him be the glory throughout all generations, forever and ever.” I found in my life that God supernaturally and abundantly meets all my needs when I’m simply obedient to what He tells me to do. There are tremendous blessings that will overtake you when you are simply being obedient. When you stretch your faith and begin to reach out beyond your own abilities, two things begin to happen. The first thing is that your own needs become less and less significant. And the second thing is that God supernaturally begins to meet your needs in abundance. Except the Lord build the house, they labor in vain that build it…(Psalm 127:1) And God is able to make all grace abound to you, that always having all sufficiency in everything, you may have an abundance for every good deed. Now He who supplies seed to the sower and bread for food, will supply and multiply your seed for sowing and increase the harvest of your righteousness.

Dear Second Baptist Church Family, The CLH SBC Education Fund Ministry extends a heartfelt and appreciative THANK YOU to the 22 people who accepted the challenge and submitted $100 to our fund. That’s an impressive number and we are grateful! We thank EVERYONE who gave to the fund. Every penny enables us to assist our youth who graduate from high school with the desire to matriculate further; we thank God for your willingness to give. During the challenge, you were encouraged to reach out to neighbors, smile at strangers, buy treats for other folk, visit the sick and extend other kindnesses and expressions of God’s love. This is something God expects us to do anyway, but it was something fun to attach to a challenge! A gentle reminder, if you will. Stay tuned for next year’s challenge, set to begin in February. It will work the same way…encouraging you to save a certain amount of money per week, while performing some sort of activity, to reach the final dollar amount of $100 in 6 months.

WHO’S SITTING BESIDE YOU? Submitted by The Bronze-In-Betweeners

“…but you shall love your neighbor as

yourself…” Leviticus 19:18 (ESV) The Bronze-In-Betweeners want to promote closeness & unity amongst our congregation, so

we will interview church members, at random, and publish short synopses. Please read on for the interviews…

Trustee Ronnie Inge Interviewed by: Lita Stallings

I had the pleasure of interviewing Trustee Ronnie Inge this month and it was interesting getting to know him on a different level. I asked him what he believed to be his skill set and/or passion and he responded, “providing good customer service to other people.” He went on to share that good customer service plays an important role in an organization’s ability to generate income and revenue. Additionally, he said that during his employment at Tourmobile Sightseeing Company, he always thought the good customer service experience could change the entire perception a customer holds toward the company. I am sure he experienced this firsthand, seeing as how he is such a gentle caring soul and would certainly have provided good customer service throughout his career! When asked about his favorite scripture, he happily answered, “Psalm 27:1, The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? The Lord is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?” Amen, how true! I can definitely see the influence of his favorite scripture over his life in how he carries himself. Ronnie is active around the church and has many memorable moments, but he revealed that his most cherished and favorite SBC moment is happening right now as he enjoys being Chair of the Men’s Ministry and working with his fellow SBC brothers. It is apparent that they have established a great camaraderie. His work with the Men’s Ministry spills over into the third question I asked. His response to how he could help SBC evolve was a reinforcement of how much he enjoys working with his fellow SBC brothers and an explanation that evolvement describes a development that is taking its time to reach its final destination. His final word on that topic? “We, the brothers of SBC, are on our journey to a great and glorious destination…stay tuned! He’s a funny guy too, but I have to admit, that was well put, Ronnie. I asked him for parting words, anything he would like to share about himself and he offered these words that we can take to the bank: “I don’t like gossip! I love my SBC family and I pray for them

Page 9: The Second Miler - sbcfallschurch.org · Charlotte Allen Sis. Edna Randall Sis. Fannie Dimes Bro. Harry Jiggetts Sis. Mildred Leak Bro. John Taylor Sis. Monica Battle Trustee Ray

to stay strong in faith and hope they will do the same for me.” I think I can speak for the entire church family when I say, “We’ve got you, Ronnie!” Thanks for giving us such an interesting insight into you!

Deaconess Leslie Spratley Interviewed by: Lita Stallings Deaconess Leslie Spratley is a quiet

soul, but don’t let that fool you – she has a lot going on! I asked her about her passion/skill set and she informed me that she is passionate about making jewelry, crocheting, reading and traveling. I can attest to her being good at making jewelry and other crafts as I’ve seen her work – she’s participated in numerous craft fairs around our region. When asked her favorite scripture, she enthusiastically replied, “Philippians 4:13 KJV, “I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.” And Isaiah 6:1 KJV, “in the year that king Uzziah died I saw also the Lord sitting upon a throne, high and lifted up, and his train filled the temple.” Oh my, how true! Those could be considered her favorite scripture AND her testimony! I can see how she lives these scripture passages in her life. I asked her how she thought she might help SBC evolve and she said she could continue to support her SBC family. Leslie also has a heart for a Support Ministry; an opportunity to provide comfort and positivity to the community, whether it be for loss of job, sickness, loss of loved one, abusive relationship and/or loss of home (resulting in homelessness). She certainly has experience in these things from her position as Chair of the Missionary Ministry and as an active member/Financial Secretary/Treasurer of the Friendship Ministry. These ministries give her the opportunity to assist others share the love of Christ. Leslie did not have anything further that she particularly wanted to share about herself, but I will tell you what I’ve learned over the years about her – she makes delicious banana nut bread and is extremely family-oriented!

Lott Carey 122nd Annual Session

Grand Rapids, Michigan August 11-15, 2019

Trustee Ronnie and Ann Inge traveled along with Pastor Samuel and First Lady Devera Barnhart to Lott Carey in Grand Rapids, Michigan on August 11-15, 2019. We departed by bus from Warner Baptist Church on Sunday, August 11th at approximately 8:30am. There were a total of 23 passengers. At 11:00 am we sang songs of praise and there were several testimonies. Pastor Barnhart prayed and following the prayer he gave his sermon. We had a glorious time praising the Lord! We arrived in Grand Rapids at 9:45pm. On Monday August 12th Trustee Ronnie and Ann and First Lady Barnhart registered to attend a 3-day class titled “How to be a World Class Christian-Becoming Part of God’s Global Kingdom.” Our instructor was Rev. Dr. Mark R. Royster Sr., Senior Pastor of Haw River Baptist Church, Pittsboro, NC. First Lady Barnhart was in a different class with a different instructor. Starting on Tuesday August 13th we were in class each day at 7:30 a.m. Dr. Royster was extremely outstanding in presenting his material. He was very thorough and well organized. His main focus was to open windows to Global Christianity for any person who desires to be a part of God’s Global Kingdom. On the last day of the class Dr. Royster stated that reaching out in what might be risky relationships or volunteering for sacrificial service moves us out of our comfort zone into the arena of dependence on Christ. Like Peter on the water when we step out in faith, JESUS MEETS US THERE!

Trusting and Obeying God

By Edwina Patterson

If you want to develop balance in your life, begin by asking who or what is in control. Do schedules, agendas, sporting events, aerobics, dance lessons, or carpools dominate your time and energy? Do fax machines, email, and cell phones distract you from the true priorities of life? Is your busy pace leaving you overwhelmed and weary?

If personal desires are your driving force, then selfish thoughts dominate. Your life can be a whirlwind of activity that leaves behind nothing of eternal value. If, on the other hand, Jesus Christ is on the throne of your heart, you'll discover balance is possible. A balanced life is a journey of faith and learning to maximize the moment - glorifying the Lord's name in every minute. Start by capitalizing on today. Stop worrying about tomorrow or next month or next year.

Finding balance doesn't necessarily mean clearing your calendar, but it does require careful scrutiny of your activities. Examine each from God's viewpoint. Is it necessary? Does it glorify God's name? Does it distract you from following God's will? The foundation of balance is a heart attitude. Your response to God and His direction is crucial. Make your obedience an offering to the Lord. Choose to lovingly relinquish your "rights" and simply obey. As your life honors and serves God, you'll bring glory to Him.

Abraham's heart surely pounded as he climbed with Isaac to the top of Mount Moriah. He had offered many sacrifices, but this one was different. (See Genesis 22.) God asked him to place on the altar his son, the most precious gift God had given him. God asked

Abraham to trust. In the end, God saw Abraham was completely surrendered to His will and provided a ram to take Isaac's place. Are you willing to trust God completely, even with what is most precious to you? God wants you to offer more than spare time and juggled schedules. He wants to be Lord of everything, including family, meals, laundry, soccer practice, and leisure time. God asks that we love Him enough to trust and obey Him. He is Lord of our past, our present, and our future. When believers invite God to control their lives, they quickly realize nothing surprises Him. No matter how painful the situation you're facing, you can trust God. Don't waste time and opportunities trying to bargain with God because you want to continue doing things your way.

So many things come at us from all sides that it'ss easy to lose focus. Finding balance is a journey of faith we take one step at a time. It helps to remember.

• God created you and He has a special plan for your life (Ps. 139).

• God's plan will not happen on your schedule.

• Everyone goes through times of preparation and learning to walk in faith.

• Seek God above career, relationships, money, and even ministry (Mt. 6:33).

• Don't allow what's insignificant to squeeze out what really matters in your life.

• Stay focused on the Lord in the midst of everyday responsibilities. Acknowledge Him in all your ways because He directs your steps (Pr. 3:6).

Just For Laughs “A cheerful heart is good medicine…”Proverbs 17:22

General McKenzie was in charge of the Navy,

and he was visiting his colleague General Marshall, who was in charge of the Army. McKenzie arrives at the military camp and is greeted by Marshall. They both walk around the place, and McKensie asks: "So how are your men?" "Very well trained, Gral. McKenzie." "I hope so. You see, my men over at the Navy are so well trained, you could see they're the bravest men all over the country." "Well, my men are very brave, too."

"I'd like to see that." So Marshall calls private Cooper and says: "Private Johnson! I want you to stop that tank coming here with your body!" "Are you crazy? It'd kill me, you idiot! I'm out of here!" As private Johnson ran away, Marshall turned to a bewildered McKenzie and said: "You see? You have to be pretty brave to talk like that to a general." ------------------------------------------------------------------------- By the time the sailor pulled into a little town every hotel room was taken. "You've got to have a room somewhere," he pleaded. "Or just a bed, I don't care where." "Well, I do have a double room with one occupant - an Air Force guy," admitted the manager, "and he might be glad to split the cost. But to tell you the truth, he snores so loudly that people in adjoining rooms have complained in the past. I'm not sure it'd be worth it to you." "No problem," the tired Navy man assured him. "I'll take it." The next morning, the sailor came down to breakfast bright-eyed and bushy tailed. "How'd you sleep?" asked the manager. "Never better." The manager was impressed. "No problem with the other guy snoring?" "Nope. I shut him up in no time," said the Navy guy. "How'd you manage that?" asked the manager. "He was already in bed, snoring away, when I came in the room," the sailor explained. "I went over, gave him a kiss on the cheek, and said, 'Goodnight beautiful,' ...and he sat up all night watching me."
