Advent: Joy December 11, 2016 First Baptist Church The Season of Advent The Themes of Advent Hope—we anticipate the coming of Christ and His coming again. Peace—Jesus came bringing peace. Joy—we understand the joy in knowing Jesus, Gods son. Love—for God loved the world and sent us His son, Jesus. The Colors of Advent The colors of Advent draw our attention to symbols in our worship for the season. Typically, we use evergreen, purple, pink, and red. This year we are using blue symbolizing a blue clear night where Magi from the East followed a star in search of their new King. The Advent Wreath The Advent wreath is used to mark the progression of the season. It includes candles that represent the themes of Advent as well as the Christ candle that will be lit on Christmas Eve. The Advent Candles Each week a new candle is lit as the season of Advent progresses and offers rich imagery. Advent, signifies waiting as the candles slowly burn, they progressively grow smaller bringing us to the arrival of Christmas. The purple candles represent the royalty of our new born King. The pink candle lit on the third Sunday, symbolizes the joy in knowing that Jesus is near. The center candle is known as the Christ candle and is lit on the Eve of Christmas. Welcome!

One way we want to get to know each other is through

the Connect Card. Each pew has a Connect Card and we

ask you to fill it out during the Welcome Time. Our

volunteers will pick up the Connect Cards from the pews

after Worship.
