ESSENTIAL QUESTIONS

• What do you know about the arrangement of stars in the sky?• Looking at the sky for a constellation to pick, I found that the arrangement of stars is pretty

interesting. Sometimes, there can be a lot stars in one location, yet in some, there is not a star in sight! This can be described as random, for it seems like stars were just randomly placed everywhere!

• The Sea Knight was a beloved ship in ancient Greece. The time the Sea Knight was around was, 270 B.C. The Sea Knight would escort Greek trading ships, protect the civilization. Greece might have been captured by a foreign land if it wasn’t for the Sea Knight! When the ship docked, its captain named Georgios Papadopoulos, and even the crewmates, were greeted joyfully. Townspeople would even give food and gifts. Everybody loved and depended on the Sea Knight.

• Georgios Papadopoulos grew up in the village of Al Nair. He grew up learning how to be a sailor, and dreamed about winning every battle. He trained on his father’s ship, the Queen. They fought ships with Georgios being a cannon shooter. Fighting in battles, they earned enough money to buy Georgios his own ship. Georgios and his father went to a shipyard. They looked at a ship, and they found a ship that Georgios fell in love with at first sight. Georgios bought the ship, and was named captain of the Sea Knight.

• Although the ship was feared throughout the lands, Rome wanted to capture Greece for their own territory. They knew that the ship was very tough, but they didn’t know how tough. The general then sent a scout ship, disguised as a trading boat to find the Sea Knight, and for it to describe the boat as best as they could. The scout came back describing the ship as a fearsome, dangerous, and deadly boat, with 25 cannons on each side, mortars, and 7 sails! The general knew that not one ship alone could take this down, maybe not even two! He then had a genius plan. He would start construction on four warships. Two of the ships would shoot the ship with cannons and mortars. The other two would be disguised as trading vessels to board the ship when the ship was being shot at, and attack the crew. The operation would take about 5 months to get the ships built and the crew trained, but they could wait.

• Meanwhile, on the Sea Knight, Georgios was praying to the gods Poseidon, and Waveus for protection. Poseidon was the god of the sea, and Waveus was the god of Naval Combat. Georgios prayed to them every night, especially when they were sailing. He believed that this is the reason they won all of their battles at sea. They also would never sail on Sundays. The reason behind this is that the believed that the gods needed a day of rest, and for people to praise them for a whole day.

THE LEGEND OF THE SEA KNIGHT CONT.CLICK HERE TO GO TO NEXT PAGE• For about 2 months the Sea Knight defended the kingdom from only about two ships, which was very peculiar. Greece was usually invaded by about 10 ships

a month. Georgios was very intrigued about this. He then sent his best crewmate, and his brother Christos, to go see, what the Romans were up to. Greece and Rome were rivals, which is why they suspected they were up to something first. Christos went in a gunship, which was disguised. It took about 2 months before they heard any word or sign of Christos. They received a courier pigeon with a letter tied to its feet. Georgios had a grave feeling about it. He slowly opened it to find writing with blood stains all over it, and in an ominous black ink.

• The letter read, “Dear Georgios. We see you have tried to spy on us. That was a deadly mistake for your friend. I believe his name was Christos. He called us scum. Ungrateful beings to be on Earth. Well, look who’s on Earth now. We will also see who’s on Earth in 30 days. We are coming. Be warned.” Georgios stood there looking in silence at the letter. A crewmate walked up to him. “Captain, what’s that letter?” he asked. A tear formed in Georgios’s eye. “Christos, he… he… is dead.” A cold wave of emotion washed over the crew. “They’re coming… for us.” He said to the crew with tears rolling down his face. Georgios knew he needed help. Georgios knew what he had to do. He went to one of his dearest friends, Archimedes. Georgios and Archimedes trained together on his father’s ship, and their families were very close.

• “Georgios!” Archimedes exclaimed. “Good Moring, Archimedes. It appears that I have grave news. Christos is dead, and Romans are coming to capture Greece.” Archimedes smile turned upside down. “I see.” He replied unemotionally. “Well, I got a special weapon for defending. It’s too heavy to be on a boat, but can be set up on land. It reflects the sun’s light into a deadly ray that can burn ships into smithereens.” Archimedes explained a plan to Georgios to defend Greece, and Georgios smiled.

• Two weeks later, the sound of alarm bells rang through the air.” Four Warships! Heavily armed! Sailing a Roman flag!” a scout shouted. Archimedes ran up to his weapon which looked like a giant magnifying glass, while Georgios ran to his ship. “Double time! If we lose this battle it’s over! Defend your country!” He yelled. The wind caught the sails and they were moving in a blink of the eye. Mortar shots rang through the air. Cannon fire started on the Sea Knight. Mortars and cannon shots rang through the air. Explosions and cannon balls going through the hull of the ship appeared on the Sea Knight. “DUCK!” Yelled Archimedes. Everyone ducked, and a white beam shot through the air, and set one of the Roman ships ablaze. A cannon shot rang through the air, and hit the weapon, which exploded into many pieces. Archimedes got up coughing, and ran back to the village. Still, the Sea Knight had taken damage, and a lot of it. It would be a very tough battle to win. “Please Poseidon and Waveus, help me!” Georgios cried.

• Suddenly, a huge wave appeared, and a voice shouted. “Georgios!” Two bodies rose out of the ocean. It was Poseidon and Waveus! “We will win this battle for you, if you do us a favor!” Georgios looked at his crew, and they all nodded in approval. In an instance, four waves the size of castles swept away the ships. Georgios stood there in awe and amazement. “Now about that favor,” They boomed. “You will serve like us, sailing in space, protecting sailors from all lands, as long as they fight for good.” Georgios looked at is crew. They all smiled and nodded. “Okay, we’ll do it.” They all waved at the land, and with the snap of Waveus’s finger, they transformed into stars, and were known as the holy warship. Georgios then fulfilled his dream, yet the benefit didn’t go to him, but for the sailors for Greece. Georgios discovered that when you pray to the gods Poseidon, Waveus, and all the Greek Gods, you shall be gifted power at sea.

• All the citizens were on the shore during the battle. They ran back to the children who were in houses, and told them what had happened. These kids then told their kids, who told their kids, and so on. To this day, the story still remains. Greek sailors believe if you pray to the Greek Gods, and see the Holy Warship, you shall be powerful during your voyage, as long as you aren’t doing bad deeds (Some people found that out the hard way). So maybe you should look into the sky sometime, and maybe you will see, the Holy Warship.
