Dispatchers with Seguin 911 Emergency Communications Call Center are fighting the sedentary features of their job, and inspiring others to do the same.

The police department recently installed exercise equipment for dispatchers to use during long shifts; sometimes requir-ing 8 to 14 hours behind a console an-swering emergency calls. Studies have shown that moving while you work can improve focus, multi-tasking skills and keep you calmer during high-stress situations.

“Chief Kelso was very supportive of that because good health is good for everybody,” said Shannon Dukes, Communications Supervisor.

Dispatchers can choose between a re-

cumbent bike and a treadmill. Both can

roll between consoles. Staff can move

their desks up or down depending on if

they want to sit or use the equipment.

“It will cut back on mental stress and strain, “ add-

ed Dukes.

The SPD Call Center demonstrated the new equip-

ment for News 4 San Antonio in June.

“San Angelo Police Department called me… Their chief saw our video and wants to order them for their office. I sent them the information. I also heard that Schertz is getting it, as well as an agen-cy in Houston,” reports Dukes.

We’re proud of the police department for being trendsetters, especially when it comes to the health of our staff.

Seguin*opoly – A great community board game!! The Chamber of Commerce plans to unveil the game in September at the Chamber Banquet. Kendy Gravett with the Chamber says there’s been a whirlwind of activity to get all of the locations pinned down, and log-os are on their way. She says the 4 RR locations will be the City Parks – including fun activities at the Wave Pool, skate park and golf course

included in the game. We can’t wait to see it!
