THE SCIENCE OF BEING • THE SPIRIT OF COMMUNITY 2 IONS 2015

IONS 16TH INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE

The SCIENCE of BEINGThe SPIRIT of COMMUNITYJuly 22–26, 2015, Hilton Oak Brook Hills Resort near Chicago

Picture yourself at an inspiring gathering of fellow explorers and like-minded friends. The menu of options speaks to your deepest passions, and luminaries from science, the environment, and wisdom traditions spark new insights. Music, dance, conversations that matter, and exercises that help deepen your experience are woven into a rich tapestry of renewal and transformation. You share your dreams and your vision, find inspiration, celebrate, reorient toward your deepest purpose, and take away tools you can immediately apply in your work and your everyday life. Yes, you are at the IONS Conference!

“Hurling earthward at several miles per second…I had time to relax in the weightlessness and contemplate that blue jewel-like home planet suspended in the velvety blackness from which we had come. What I saw out the window was all I had ever known, all that I once thought had ever been and ever would be. It was all there suspended in the cosmos and that fragile little sphere…The restraints and boundaries of flesh and bone fell away…I not only saw the connectedness, I felt it.

Whereas mystics have believed the more startling insights to be a supernatural phenomenon, I was reasonably sure they were entirely natural, even normal—perhaps emergent characteristics of ongoing evolution. Everyone experiences that potent, ethereal sense of aha! and for a brief moment, they glimpse the larger structure of a problem in their life, resolve a conflict in the thinking, or glimpse the grand pattern of the universe itself.” —The Way of The Explorer

Edgar Mitchell’s direct experience transformed his life and inspired him to found IONS. As he puts it now, “What the Apollo Program did for outer space, IONS is doing for inner space.”

Come. Help us create the perfect blend ofdeep experiences leading to aha! insights, scientific evidence investigating those insights and experiences, training and tools to directly apply those findings, and a thriving community supporting one another in co-authoring a new story.

The only remaining ingredient needed is YOU! Warning: May cause inspiration, connection, joy, and renewed commitment to creating the world we all wish to live in.

Please join us forFROM OUR 2013 CONFERENCE:

I loved this conference. It was a watershed moment in my life and impacted me deeply. Thank you for an incredibly evolutionary experience in my personal journey.

7THE SCIENCE OF BEING • THE SPIRIT OF COMMUNITY IONS 2015

W1 – MYSTERY SCHOOLDeborah Jones

Living awake entails far more than reading about enlightenment or developing mental concepts of what living awake means. Living spiritually awake is an embodied awareness from which conscious thought, word, and action emerge. How

can you live awake? Your body contains a vast warehouse of ignored wisdom. Your energy field, comprised of vibrational bandwidths, is rarely explored. Each bandwidth offers a specific interior view of your exterior interpretation and judgment. In this experiential workshop, you will cultivate an awareness of energetic fields as a felt-sense in your body and acquire skills to navigate these fields, allowing you to move from reactivity into a grounded and awake capacity to meet life consciously.

W2 – SUPERNORMAL: SCIENCE, YOGA,AND HUMAN POTENTIAL Dean Radin, PhD and Lakshmi Angela Norwood, MEd

Do we all have the potential to manifest extraordinary abilities? Recent cutting-edge science supports claims in ancient yogic texts suggesting that “super” abilities are not only real but also attainable by ordinary people. In a one-of-a-kind workshop, IONS Chief Scientist Dean Radin joins Lakshmi Angela Norwood—spiritual mentor, teacher, and hatha yoga practitioner—to explore how empirical evidence is shedding light on practices we can use to realize these abilities.

IONS COMMUNITY GROUP PRE-CONFERENCE EVENTWednesday, July 22, 2015 – 4:30 to 9:30 p.m.($50 workshop fee includes dinner)

If you are an IONS Community Group leader or an IONS member interested in starting a Community Group in your area, please join us for an evening of connecting with and learning from one another. Through a combination of presentations, structured sharing, experiential activities, and informal social time, this workshop will feature current Community Group activities and include opportunities for telling the stories of our successes and the wisdom of our best practices. We will also look at our challenges and share ways to overcome them. Together we will create innovative ways to share resources and strengthen communication with IONS and its worldwide Community Groups.

WEDNESDAY PRE-CONFERENCE WORKSHOPS9:00 A.M. TO 4:00 P.M., Wednesday, July 22, 2015

W3 – GREENHEART CHICAGO TOUREmanuel Kuntzelman and Andrea Dennis

Take a ride with Greenheart and experience Chicago from a socially conscious perspective. First stop, the acclaimed Baha’i Temple. Then cruise down Lake Shore Drive to a dynamic social enterprise for a tour and discussion on what happens when mission meets the marketplace. Up next, a secret stone spiral on the lakefront. There we’ll enjoy a picnic of organic foods and a talk on transformative leadership and then close our day with a mediation. Although the Greenheart Chicago experience ends here, those wishing to carry on can visit a museum, take a Chicago Architecture Boat Tour, or traipse around downtown. There will be two Chicago departures for the hotel, at 2:30 p.m. and 9:00 p.m, in case you’d like to explore downtown Chicago.  (A $56 transportation supplement will be added)

THE SCIENCE OF BEING • THE SPIRIT OF COMMUNITY 8 IONS 2015

THURSDAY PRE-CONFERENCE WORKSHOPS 9:00 A.M. TO 4:00 P.M., Thursday, July 23, 2015

T1 – “TAPPING” INTO YOUR INNER RESOURCES: Energy Psychology Approaches for Self-Care and Self-Evolution Robert Schwarz, PsyD, DCEP

There are lots of books and videos that tell you what you ought to do to be more evolved. The problem is that we often can’t do what we know we should. In this experiential workshop, you will learn how to use Energy Psychology

approaches, including the Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT) and other tapping approaches, to reduce overwhelming negative feelings and to transform painful and stressful memories and incidents so that you can connect with your best, or higher, self. You will also learn techniques to identify and remove the most common forms of unconscious blocks to everything.

T2 – LIVING A NOETIC LIFE: Principles and Practices for Personal and Social Transformation Marilyn Schlitz, PhD

What are the inner skills and capacities we need to fully flourish in a world filled with mind-boggling challenges and complexities? How can we identify and nurture the qualities we wish to embody? Where might we find barriers

that keep us from reaching our fullest dreams and potentials—and what can we do to break through these obstacles? This workshop invites participants to draw on their own noetic insights and experiences to address these fundamental questions. Based in research on worldview transformation and healing, the workshop will offer reliable guideposts for navigating change. We will engage in practices for increasing resilience, enhancing personal growth, deepening interpersonal relationships, and clarifying our engagement with life and work.

T3 – CULTIVATING ENERGY WISDOM FOR HEALTH, HEALING, AND HAPPINESSMingtong Gu

Master Mingtong Gu will guide you on an experiential path that unites consciousness and energy—a union he calls “energy wisdom.” You will learn the powerful ancient practice of Wisdom Healing Qigong, which combines mindful movement,

sound healing, visualization, and meditation. Trans-form limited and blocked energy patterns into healthy energy that flows throughout the physical and energetic bodies. This process can awaken us to self-healing and self-realization.

T4 – THE NEXT STEP IN CONSCIOUS EVOLUTIONBarbara Marx Hubbard

Ms. Hubbard will present an overview of our planetary evolution, identifying where we are right now in our life cycle. What is the meaning of our new crises? Where is the emergent potential leading us? How can we not only respond to these

crises but also use them as evolutionary drivers to discover and enact the next stage of human evolution? The Wheel of Co-Creation will be used as a participatory model for entering our vocations of choice, seeking common goals, and matching needs with resources to set a template for a more synergistic democracy. We will examine the growing edge of our spiritual, scientific, and technological capacities as extended potentials of the universal species we are becoming.

9THE SCIENCE OF BEING • THE SPIRIT OF COMMUNITY IONS 2015

THURSDAY EVENING GENERAL SESSIONJoin us for the celebratory opening of IONS 16th International Conference, with IONS founder and Apollo 14 astronaut Edgar Mitchell, IONS President Cassandra Vieten, and International Theosophical Society President Tim Boyd.

We are in the midst of a conscious-ness revolution. And by attending this conference, where the science of being meets the spirit of com- munity, YOU are at the heart of it. Inspired by the transformation he experienced in his spacecraft in 1971

as he returned from his moonwalk, Edgar Mitchell has been pioneering the scientific investigation of a new perspective on reality since that day. Put simply, we’ve been taught that the universe is made of matter and energy. But it’s becoming increasingly clear that it is made of matter, energy, and consciousness. Dr. Mitchell will share his perspective as one of eight surviving individuals who have journeyed farther from our planet than anyone in history!

IONS President and CEOCassandra Vieten will share how IONS is impacting the world through frontier science, trans-formation education, experiential learning, and community. As the power of our awareness, attention,

and intention begins to permeate every corner of so-ciety, how can we wisely navigate and collaborate to accelerate this emerging shift in global consciousness?

Tim Boyd brings us a perspective from one of the longest-lasting and most venerable organizations that has since 1875 engaged in the study of comparative religion, philosophy, and science and explored unex-plained laws of nature and the

powers latent in humanity. Now, the Theosophical Society has members in seventy countries around the world. Mr. Boyd will share a number of ways to pursue the unfoldment of consciousness. To some, it is a scientific process; to others, it is an art. Is it possible to harmonize our experiences of transcendence and wonder with the science of today?

MAIN CONFERENCE – Thursday Evening and Friday Morning General Sessions7:30 P.M. TO 9:30 P.M., Thursday, July 23, 2015 and 9:00 A.M. To 12:30 P.M., Friday, July 24, 2015

FRIDAY MORNING GENERAL SESSIONEmbody Your Transformation NOW! – Master Mingtong Guwill lead us in Wisdom Healing Qigong, a profound and effective system of healing and transforma-tion for health and happiness. He is guiding participants in Five-Organ

Sound Healing for Emotional Transformation as well as other practices in a plenary session and morning prac- tices. These experiential sessions can recharge your body, heart, and spirit through the activation of the col- lective, accumulative, and holographic healing qi field.

Death Makes Life Possible: Noetic Perspectives on Life, Death, and Beyond – Marilyn Schlitz, PhDwill look at how popular culture deals with the ever-present fear many of us have about our own mortality. She will explore the mysteries of life

and death from a variety of perspectives and world traditions and highlight a multimedia education and community engagement program that is helping to transform the fear of death into an inspiration for living.

The Three-Pound Crystal Ball: The Theory of Sleep AID and the Unconscious Mind’s Exclusive Access into the Corridors of Time – Lou Ferrante

Since ancient times, humankind has believed that the dreaming mind can glimpse the future. Ferrante has taken a methodical approach in his latest book, combining personal experiences, extensive research, and neurosci-

ence to prove that the human mind can indeed see into the future, and in turn, prepare for it.

Being Your True Story, the Pathway to Happiness – Don Miguel RuizBe inspired by the author of The Four Agreements, as he shares ways to cultivate a happier and more rewarding story for ourselves. We are born perfect, and we will die

perfect. We search for everything we believe we don’t have, not knowing that everything we are looking for is already inside us. We are born with it.

THE SCIENCE OF BEING • THE SPIRIT OF COMMUNITY 12 IONS 2015

SATURDAY MORNING GENERAL SESSION9:00 A.M. TO 12:30 P.M.

The Nature of Consciousness Federico FagginIf consciousness is an irreducible aspect of the energy of which space, time, and matter are made, how is our worldview going to change? Can this assumption lead to a coherent

conceptual structure that suggests the appropriate mathematical theory, where physical reality is produced by consciousness rather than the other way around?

A Cosmology of Connection Drew DellingerWhat connects ecology and social justice, indigenous wisdom and contemporary science, and the vision of Martin Luther King Jr. and the photographs of earth taken from outer space?

Despite their differences, each of these calls us to transform our culture and to move from a worldview of separation to a cosmology of interrelationship. In this talk, Drew Dellinger will link ecology, justice, and cosmology to show how changing our worldview is a critical step in changing our world.

Evolutionary SpiritualityBarbara Marx HubbardWhat are the evolutionary indications of our emergence as a new humanity facing devolution or conscious self-evolution? Ms. Hubbard will discuss the advent of

evolutionary spirituality as a vital component of social and scientific evolution.

Learn how to partner and participate in the Institute’s unique education and research programs, which support individual and collective transformation through consciousness research, educational outreach, and engagement with the global learning community. Together we can create a shift in consciousness worldwide, where people recognize that we are all part of an interconnected whole and are inspired to take action to help humanity and the planet thrive.

We invite you to reserve your space for the luncheon when you register. The cost for this benefit luncheon is $40. If you have donated $500 or more per year to IONS, the luncheon is free to you and your partner (please find a code in our January email or call registration).

Seating is limited, so please sign up on your registration form. Please feel free to invite friends, family members, or colleagues who are not attending the conference. We look forward to seeing you there!

MAIN CONFERENCE – Saturday and Sunday General Sessions and Post-ConferenceSaturday, July 25, 2015, and Sunday, July 26, 2014

SUNDAY POST-CONFERENCE WORKSHOP2:00 P.M. TO 3:30 P.M.

Please join us after lunch for a very special workshop with Marianne Williamson.

MIRACLE-MINDEDNESS AND THE SOPHISTICATED INTELLECTMarianne Williamson Given the realization that the universe is both self-organizing and self-correcting, faith in

miracles turns out to be not the most blind but rather the most visionary way of perceiving the world. In this workshop, Marianne Williamson will articulate the principles of miracle-mindedness that prevail within the realm of consciousness. Learning these principles and applying them to our practical circumstances, we not only come to navigate our internal landscape but to miraculously affect the world.

in this domain, as we’ve seen in many others, may outpace our ability to use these abilities wisely.

The Gift of ChangeMarianne WilliamsonScience, psychotherapy, and spirituality are now converging, as the deepest understanding of all three appear at last to represent a single truth. Beyond the varieties of material

manifestation lies a unity, whether described by quantum physics or the great religious truths of the world. The profound evolutionary change of our era is the conversion of our thinking from a mental filter that posits a mechanistic universe, to one that reveals our spiritual oneness with each other and with all things. Emotionally, this shift is a miraculous journey from fear to love. It changes us, and it changes the world.

TABLETOP TALKS Self-organized tabletop talks will take place at conference meals. Sign up on site to lead a table in discussion about a topic that interests you.  SPOTLIGHTS Conference attendees and emerging noetic scientists who would like to share their ideas are encouraged to submit an abstract for consideration for a ten-minute presentation at the IONS conference. Presentations will take place in a no-host breakfast room before the morning general session Friday through Sunday. Submission deadline is March 1, 2015. Those accepted will be notified by March 30. Submit your abstract to https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/IONSSpotlights  INNER SPACEInstead of exhibitors, this year we will have a Noetic Experiential Village where practitioners and companies will offer different modalities that may promote transformation. Participants can try a taste of these offerings to see what pushes their transformational button. These spots are given by invitation only, but you may submit a letter of inquiry to Justine MacLean at [email protected]. Please explain what you would like to offer and any scientific data available on your practice or tool. There will be a fee of $250 if you do not charge or $350 if you do, which will include a conference registration. The maximum you may charge is $1 per minute, though we hope many experiences will be free.

VOLUNTEER WORK EXCHANGE PROGRAMIONS offers a Volunteer Work Exchange Program to lighten any financial burden of attending the conference. Volunteer rate is $195 if you turn in your paperwork by February 28, 2015, or $250 after that. You will be required to donate a maximum of 14 hours of conference-related work. Contact [email protected] to obtain a volunteer application. If you would like to volunteer for a Pre- or Post-Conference Institute, it is an additional $65 for pre-conference and $35 for post-conference, which require assisting the speaker for the duration of the session (this is separate from the volunteer hours for the main conference registration). WAYS TO PARTICIPATE

Workshops, so sign up early for these! Also, please note that the Volunteer Work Exchange Program discounted rate does not cover travel, lodging, or meals, and that the volunteer fee is not refundable. We are unable to give refunds for volunteer rates—although any meal costs in addition to the registration fee can be refunded before June 25, 2015.

SCHOLARSHIPSWe would like to make scholarships available, mostly to youth and students (18–35). If you are interested in donating a scholarship or need assistance to attend, please contact registration for information. Those who attend on scholarship will donate a maximum of 14 hours to conference-related work. Generally we are only able to provide tuition scholarships; it is rare for us to be able to offer travel, hotel, or meals.

COMMUNITY MEALSJoin us for delicious community lunches and dinners, which provide a valuable opportunity to meet others and to share insights in both organized and informal networking settings. Some tables will have discussions led by conference participants; topics will be listed and posted at the room’s entrance. Join one of these discussions, start your own, or choose a table without a formal discussion. Three-course dinners will be offered on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday for $49 each. Two-course lunches are offered for $29.

CARBON OFFSETTING Join us on our journey toward sustainability! Greenhouse gas pollution from air and ground travel contributes significantly to the climate crisis. NativeEnergy donates high-quality carbon offsets to mitigate the global-warming impact of the estimated combined venue and staff and speaker travel emissions, which helps to make our 16th International Conference more sustainable. We strongly encourage you to offset the global-warming impact of the CO2 emissions created by an average attendee for just $14 per attendee. Simply check the “offset” box on the registration form. We thank you for your environmental stewardship and your ongoing commitment to IONS. For more information, visit www.nativeenergy.com.

This is within the five mile radius of the resort, so the resort shuttle will drop off and pick up from this station (call 630-850-5555). TRANSPORTATION FROM AIRPORT TAXI SERVICE (please see our website for more information)Oak Brook Hills Resort & Conference Center is located near both O’Hare and Midway airports. Windy City and American Taxis service the suburbs from O’Hare and Midway airports. Taxis that service downtown Chicago (considered city taxis) will charge much more to deliver guests to the suburbs. All suburban taxis must be dispatched by pre-arranged orders—they cannot be summoned at the airport. Suburban taxis are not allowed to wait at the curb for customers who are still in the terminal and will charge $2 each time they circle the terminals. All taxi pickups are in the middle lane of traffic except at the international terminal, where the pickups are in the first lane. One option is Windy City Taxi (currently $29 each way, an Oak Brook Hills negotiated rate): windycitylimos.com or 866-949-4639.
