the school. Thank you!

Welcome to our Preschool students – Andrew Coles, Lulu Coles, Kirsten Currie, Wesley Demmings,

Cadence Federspiel, Benjamin Gottselig, Sadie Rogoschewsky, Ella Sigmeth, Brant Spencer, Linden

Thorson, Scarlet Tripps, and Eva Wilker. They started Preschool on Sept. 10th and will be coming every

Tuesday and Thursday morning. Also welcome to Mrs. Michelle Anderson-Sigmeth and Mrs. Kathryn

Thorson who will be helping in the Preschool room this year.

Terry Fox Run – Our Terry Fox Run was to be held on Thursday, September 26th this year but

unfortunately, we’ve had to postpone it to a later date due to the weather. Watch for alternate date.

Thank you to all students who have so far taken the time to collect pledges for the Terry Fox Foundation.

Our goal this year was $1500 and we have surpassed that thus far raising $2052.50 for cancer research to

date. Way to go!

Congratulations to Ethan Fahlman, Zander Carr, Conrad Gottselig & Blair Bennett who were the lucky

winners of the Terry Fox T-Shirts. Special thanks to Conexus Credit Union who donated a snack for each

of the students involved in the run.

“Even if I don’t finish, we need others to continue. It’s got to keep going without me.”

Terry Fox – July 10, 1980

Please note: If students still have their pledges at home, please return them to the school by

October 5th so we can have all pledge monies sent in to the Terry Fox Foundation.

Cooking with Schell 2 - We still have recipe books available! They can be purchased at the front desk of

Schell School for $5.00. They make great birthday, wedding shower or Christmas gifts. All proceed go to

the Schell School Fundraising Committee.

children are welcome to join us for some Halloween fun! (12:15 – 1:00 p.m.)

SPORTS HAPPENINGS:

Senior Girls Volleyball – With only nine girls and various commitments off the court it has been very

difficult to field enough players for both practices and tournaments. After a couple of practices we

travelled to Carlyle/Arcola for our first tournament with just six players. They played very well but as

luck would have it two of our starters were hurt and had to tough out the rest of the day. We finished 3rd

on the consolation side. We were to play at Kipling the next weekend but due to outside commitments

and two injured starters were forced to drop out of the tournament. A big disappointment. Due to more

outside commitment and a power outage we were unable to practice before the Wadena tournament.

Remarkably, we remained competitive, finishing 3rd in pool play and 4th overall. We again only had

seven players. A special thanks to Jayce Kelly and Mackenzie Van Damme who played through their

injuries again to make sure we could field a team. It has certainly been a struggle this year but more

practices as a whole team will give us a good chance at future tournaments. Our next tournament is our

home tournament with the championship being held at Imperial this year. A special thanks to Jade Van

Damme for driving to Wadena.

Tournament Dates:

September

Oct 4th & 5th – Imperial/Holdfast

Oct 18th & 19th – Naicam

Oct 25th & 26th – Quill Lake

- Mr. Kurbis (coach)

Junior Girls – The Jr. Girls Volleyball team has had a great start to their season. We have had some

additional players join us following the last newsletter so our team is now comprised of 12 girls,

six from each school. From Holdfast, we have Hannah Burks, Elizabeth Maerz, Addison Dennis,

Peyton Mengel, Hailee Woodhouse, and Kaidence Bachman playing. From Imperial, we now have

Hudson Vogt, Emma Schaeffer, Arianne Dy, Chloe Federspiel, Bailey Field, and Sianna Tannahill

playing this year. The grade sixes are focusing on skill development as we move through the season

and the Grade 7/8 students are learning to work together as a team.

The Grade 6/7/8 players began their season of league on September 24th with a game against Lanigan.

The girls opened the match with a win but then lost ultimately after 4 sets. They then played a close

game against a strong Drake team on September 26 where they learned vital positioning and areas

they need further improvement in.

The team then played their first tournament in Holdfast on September 28th. The girls showed

excellent improvement and gained some much needed confidence through the games against a variety

of teams they would not normally play against. Thank you to Mrs. Fahlman for running an excellent

canteen again this year, to Alexis, Jacob, Kiana, Ryan, and Conrad for working the score clock, the

canteen, completing linsing duties, as well a refereeing. Thank you Mr. Kurbis for refereeing,

arranging for our plaques and helping set up the draw. Thank you Mrs. Dennis for typing out

everything we needed. You help keep us on top of our organization as coaches.

Great job representing your schools this weekend girls and I look forward to watching you continue to

improve as the season progresses.

- Mrs. Demmings (coach)

Cross Country – Hailee Woodhouse competed in the pre-district Cross Country championships at

Wynyard on September 25th. After practicing hard over the summer and at school she moved up fifteen

spots to finish 33rd out of 85 girls. She clocked in almost two minutes faster then last year. A great

effort Hailee! Her goal is to reach districts next year as a pee-wee girl.
