The savanna

The savannahBy: Mohammed HamoudaWhere is the savanna?

IntroductionA savanna is spotted with scrubs and isolated trees, which can be found between a tropical rainforest and desert biome. Not enough rain falls on a savanna to support forests. Savannas are also known as tropical grasslands. They are found in a wide band on either side of the equator on the edges of tropical rainforests.

Animals

LionsLions live in the savanna of Africa south of the Sahara and also in small area in Asia. Lions eat gazelles, buffalo, zebras and many other small to medium sized mammals.

African elephant These animals have a special job in savannas. They keep the savannas clear by eating shrubs and trees, which help the grass, grow and also help the elephant survive.

The Black Mamba The Black Mambas feed on small mammals and birds, like voles, rats, squirrels, mice, rats, or bush babies.

Chacma baboon The baboon has cheek pouches in which they can store food. They can also rely on others in the group or family for food and water. Everybody helps to find food and water in the family.

nigriceps ant To defend their trees against invasion, nigriceps ant colonies actively prune their trees. They chew off all axillary shoots (horizontal shoots), causing the tree to grow tall and skinny. In this way the ants avoid contact with other trees which may hold enemy colonies.

Plants

BaobabThe baobab looks like this for a reason. In the wet months water is stored in its thick, corky so in the dry days it can survive.

Candelabra Tree The candelabra tree is beautiful, but poisonous. It is poisonous so it can defend itself from animals.

The Manketti Tree Manketti Tree survives by storing water from the ground by its roots.

How did the human activity effect the savannah, and its animalsThe humans effected the savannah by.

cutting down its trees.

Killing animals for fun

Changing it to farm lands14How can we prevent it to happenWe can prevent it to happen by..Making restricted areaMaking safaris Making a law that shooting animals is illegal

Abiotic FactorsAt the savannah the is 2 seasons, the dry season and the wet season. The dry season lasts is 5 to 6 months, usually from May to October. The wet season is 5 to 6 months and lasts from December to March. Mostly only grass grows at the savannah, but there are some trees. This is because of the dry season. In the dry season there is no rain. during the wet season there is clouds and there is a cool temperature.the temperature in the wet days is usually 20-25c,but in the dry season the temperature is usually 30-45c.
