Created in collaboration with WOHAbeing, the Sampan

collection applies the strikingly unique tapered shapes of the

traditional boats of the Singapore waterfront. Reflected in a

series of Baths, Shower Bath and Vanities, these unique designs

transform bathing into a romantic journey.

Singapore is the home of WOHA and apaiser - The WOHA

studio is located in a conserved cluster of shophouses behind

Boat Quay, where sampan boats were moored on the

Singapore River, whilst apaiser maison Singapore is located

in an original shophouse in Chinatown.

Singapore has been a thriving trading port since the days of

Sir Stamford Raffles and the Singapore River was its economic

lifeblood. Goods were loaded and unloaded into warehouses

using sampans - small, nimble boats ideal for use in the river.

Sampan, Cantonese for “3 Boards”, describes the uniquely

designed but simple form of the boats, fashioned by hand

from a flat plank of wood as the base, with two angled planks

forming the sides. Celebration of this vanishing heritage was

the inspiration for this stunning collection.

We have been working with apaiser for over 10 years now, partnering with them on various projects. We appreciate apaiser’s

open-mindedness, willingness to try innovative approaches and ability to

custom-make products according to our designs. We enjoyed our collaborations so

The Sampan collection, entrenched in local history, combines functionality with elegance. It is a

symphony of clean lines and geometry, adorned with subtle detail - such as infinity overflow, polished

and textural surfaces and elements driven by usability and comfort. The result is architectural in its

simplicity and yet the dynamic shapes create a sense of the theatrical. Handcrafted in apaisermarble®,

enriched with Australian minerals by our masters in the apaiser atelier. Beautiful works of functioning

bathroom art, created in sustainable reclaimed marble, impacting benignly on the environment.
