The Salvation Army
Joe Krout, W0PWJ, received the distinguished award of "Kansas Radio Amateur of the Year"
At The Kansas ARRL Convention, Salina, KS 2013!
Joe Krout WØPWJ refurbished Marshall Ensor 1930’s radio station (upper left), with Harry Krout WØYQG
(DAD) (upper center), Greenburg, KS (upper right).
Joe at The Salvation Army, Olathe Corps, SATERN meeting (left), Joe directing TSA EDS volunteer inside the
SATERN Communications Vehicle “#105” at KCMO EDS (center), Joe with Plaque (right).
Joe surrounded by Del Sawyer KØDDS, Jim Andera KØNK,
George McCarville WBØCNK, Dee Smith WØDEE (and three
unidentified hams) at the Greensburg, Kansas tornado 2007.
I have great respect for Joe and his interests and accomplishments in this hobby. I
first met Joe when he came with his dad, Harry W0YQG, to the Ensor Museum
back in about 2005 to see more of what this radio stuff is about, and why Harry
decided to get back into it after years of deferring to the responsibilities of work
and being the family head. His retirement from Electrical Engineering and the
freedom of time had arrived and Joe and Harry became a team of two.
Harry had just become a volunteer who was restoring the W9UA transmitter for the museum. That also caused
him to become re-licensed. Joe followed Harry into ham activities and volunteering with our Ensor goals of radio
restoration. Joe has also joined clubs and contributed to organizations involved in emergency preparedness.
I might add that Joe is my valued assistant at the Ensor Museum.
Larry Woodworth, W0HXS
Joe, you are one of the first to offer assistance anytime we have a SATERN workday or special event. I see that
you do the same for various other organizations such as ARES, RACES and at Ensor. I can always count on you
to be one of those who are available and willing to help. We are so very proud to have you as a member of our
SATERN organization. You are very deserving of the title, Kansas Radio Amateur of the Year.
Again, my congratulations and 73,
Rich Britain
