It gives me joy to see God at work among people I love. And that is what I’ve been
seeing at Parkville Presbyterian…
In baptisms three Sundays in a row (including this coming Sunday), the church
coming together as family to celebrate babies joining our fold, confirmands
professing their faith, and all of us reclaiming God’s promises to wash away
our sins and give us new life…
In communion served at one service last week almost entirely by youth and
adults who were ordained as high schoolers to ministry as elder or deacon,
each one living out their faith in their studies, work and daily lives…
In commissioning for mission this Sunday as a combined group of youth and
adults—along with sisters and brothers from a partner church in south Kansas
City—all join to proclaim the gospel with our actions of rebuilding Joplin…
This Sunday brings all of these—baptism, communion, and commissioning—together.
It is Trinity Sunday, when we reflect on God’s absolute, abundant sufficiency for us. In
the whole being of God—whom we know as Father, Son and Holy Spirit—we are given
everything we need. Each of these special acts invokes God’s Trinitarian name but also
God’s Trinitarian purposes: marking us for lives of love and service, redeeming the sin
of the world through Christ, and sustaining us through all things, drawing us ever near-
er to God’s mercy and goodness. Each act is, in microcosm, the Good News of God
loving us.
We are called to live lives that reflect in the world the same God at work in the
sanctuary. To bathe our community with new life. To extend God’s gracious feast to
all who are hungry for bread or a word. To allow ourselves to be sent with boldness
not just to distant cities but also to our homes or schools or workplaces in a spirit of
missional generosity and proclamation. May this be how we live every Sunday and
every other day, and may we watch for God at work among us!
The Lord be with you,

Loving Our Neighbor Mission Update Highway Clean Up – June 9 Our next Highway Cleanup date is Saturday, June 9, in
the morning. A start time will be published in the bul-
letin a few weeks in advance. This is a combined adult
and youth activity that expresses our stewardship of
our community and God’s creation. Please note we
are now focusing our highway cleanup efforts on the

The Parkville Presbyterian Church Dinners for Eight provides an opportunity to
dine with church members in their homes, to foster communications between es-
tablished members and new members, to allow church members to share time and
develop relationships and to serve as an outreach to church members who desire a
more personal connection with the church and its members.
Dinners for Eight will be held each quarter on the following dates: June 30,
September 29 and December 29 (subject to change) Eight (or more)
church members will be invited to each dinner. The groups will change at each
dinner. These dinners will be casual and held in the homes of church members
who have agreed to serve as hosts. Hosts may prepare the meal or ask guests
to bring dishes for the meal.
If you are interested, please complete the form available on the narthex kiosk and
give it to the church office (or drop it in the collection plate on Sunday). In a few
weeks, you will receive notice of the June 30 Dinners for Eight, identifying the host
for your dinner and the location of your host's home. If you have questions, please
contact Cheryl Rittman – 816-741-6428 or [email protected]

promoting the services they can provide to our church family. Examples of services in-
clude:
Light shopping
Watering plants
Washing a car or outside windows
Shovel snow from front steps
Changing a light bulb or hanging a picture
Moving fall/spring clothes between closets
Sweeping a front/back porch or moving patio furniture
Putting up storm windows, cleaning a clogged gutter, cleaning out a fireplace
Minor home repairs (plumbing, electric, etc.)
Minor yard work (trim bush, minor leave raking)
Minor car work (air spare, change head light)
Any member of Parkville Presbyterian Church who needs assistance, please call the
church office at 816-741-1641 or at [email protected]. We will assess the re-
quest and assign a team member to fulfill the need. Handy Helpers will also schedule
work days in the second half of 2012 to focus on larger projects. More information on
work days will be communicated later this summer.
Please spread the word about the Handy Helper services and that there are some very
caring church members that want very much to help other church family members.

The Community Mission group is in the process of publishing a collection of recipes from
our church members for a cookbook, A Celebration of Fellowship - A Collection of Recipes Past
to Present from Parkville Presbyterian Church that will be available this fall. If you have that fa-
vorite recipe that everyone seems to request, an old family one that you would like to see
continue or that ‘off the wall’ one you came up with on a whim and turned out to be a hit -
WE WANT THEM!
We will be including some of the great recipes of past church
cookbooks so they may continue to carry on the heritage of
Parkville Presbyterian Church.
Please make a copy, pick up a recipe form in the Narthex, or fill
out the form on page 6. You can turn in your recipes to Todd
Hussong, Joyce Schrimsher, John Broyles or you may drop them
off in the “Cookbook” folder located in the Folder area. All rec-
ipes must be submitted by July 31, 2012.
REMEMBER these will be here in time for the Holidays and
will make excellent gifts! Each cookbook is only $10.00 and
payment is due when these tasty books arrive.
There are also Advance Order Coupons located next to the recipe forms that you can fill
out and hand in that will let us know how many copies we can set aside for you.
We do ask that if there are any specific or special steps, ingredients, amounts, brands, etc.
that you do note them on your recipe.
—Todd Hussong

Issues Facing the Presbyterian Church
Led by Brian Ellison, June 3-24, Room 312
Every two years, the General Assembly of the Presbyterian
Church (U.S.A.) convenes to give overall direction and vision
to our 2.1-million-member denomination. As we approach
this year's assembly, this class will highlight issues that will get
the most attention and have the most substantial impact on
the church and its witness in the world. It will also provide an
overview of how the Assembly works, who attends, and how
all of us can participate in its work through our reading, view-
ing, and prayers.
Young Families Discussion Group
Led by group members, Sundays, Room 311
Raising children is one of life’s great challenges and joys. This class, intended for parents
and caregivers of elementary age children and younger, provides opportunity for fellow-
ship and discussion of what it means to raise children Christianly and well. Beginning Sun-
day, May 27, the class will utilize Have a New Kid by Friday by Kevin Lehman. We will
follow the workbook with provides guidance on how to change your child's attitude, be-
havior and character in 5 days. The class will cover this over a 5 week period, with a
new section being discussed each Sunday.
On behalf of the Growing Faith Mission, I invite you and encourage you to participate in
one of these adult education offerings. The more we open ourselves up to hearing and
studying God’s Word, the more we grow in our own faith journeys.

Growing Faith: Adult Education in June
Changes Ahead for the Salt Shaker The Message & Media Mission has been working hard to help the church communicate
better to one another in the congregation and in the community. One step we will be
exploring in the next two months is moving from a monthly print newsletter (which we
have been delivering electronically) to a weekly email newsletter (in which information is
contained in the email itself). The goal is to get information about the congregation’s life
out in a quicker, more interactive and more readable way. A printed digest of the
month’s articles would still be sent by postal mail to those who currently receive the Salt
Shaker by mail, so no one will miss out.
Bear with us as we experiment with the proposed new format, and by all means, offer
your thoughts and feedback to the church office or to Message & Media moderator Laura
Ozenberger. Thanks!
