Exodus… What a Trip! — May 4, 11, 18 and 25
This class will review and recap the adventure of God’s people and
their leader Moses from slavery to a new way of life. We’ll note the
tendencies of people (then and now) to look for the easy way and God’s
propensity to show us, not the easier way, but the better way. The
class will include slides of various depictions of events and scenes
from the Exodus from some well known and some not so well known
artists. Mike Vaughn will lead the discussions.

Highlights from the Welcoming Team
April was a busy month as the Welcoming Team continues to focus on radical hospitality.
Opportunities for connecting with our community are around us every day. Come and be a part of the fun and fellowship! Don’t forget to invite your neighbors to be our guest at PPC!
New Sign on Main Street – Meeting with neighbors to talk about our new sign design and its potential impact as we develop an ongoing relationship.
Greeting the Guest - Lisa Weixelman and Gerry Lowery will meet on Saturday, May 10th at 9:00am to implement a more organized ‘welcome’ for our guests. Everyone is invited to attend but especially those that have committed to serve as Greeters each Sunday. Mark your calendar!
Entrance on Hwy 9 - A Welcome sign, sanctuary map, and plants (thanks to Marcia Tighe) have been added.
Election Day Welcome Table – The coffee, lemonade, and cookies were well received by the community. We will continue this for the elections throughout the year.
Easter Egg Hunt – Many children enjoyed the Easter Egg Hunt and other activities. We furnished coffee, water, and donuts to participants. We had raffle drawings to obtain contact information for families to invite them to our Bible School in June.
Welcoming other Groups – Cookies have been provided for the home school co-operative, narcotics anonymous, and SPEAC food pantry. These were well received and greatly appreciated. Infor-mation about our church and upcoming activities was also included.
Marcia Tighe and Mary Listrom are attend-ing the CYT production of ‘Oliver’ at Park Hill High School on May 2nd with several of our children.
Advertising - Ads have been placed in the Walnut Creek newsletter and the Parkville area newspaper to inform the community of worship opportunities and activities at church.
Stay tuned for upcoming events! 4th of July parade, Parkville Days, Parktoberfest, and
Christmas on the River.

“Maybe Lent is a good time to stop doing and try being. Relinquishment lies at the
heart of the Christian gospel and is a countercultural choice that hones our
discipleship. If I let go of the assumption that my hard work will bring me all that
I desire, I begin to look at the present moment, receive it with gratitude, and know
what it asks of me. I learn when it is time to rest, time to plan, time to play, time to wait,
time to act boldly.” - Elizabeth J. Canham in Weavings
PENTECOST offering — June 8
The Pentecost offering is one of the four main offerings that Parkville Presbyterian Church
participates in during the year. The other main offerings are One Great Hour of Sharing,
Peacemaking and Christmas Joy.
The proceeds of the Pentecost offering are directed to benefit children at risk. Parkville Presbyterian
Church receives 40% of the total offering collected, to allocate to programs targeted for children at
risk in the Kansas City area. The remaining 60% of the offering goes to Presbyterian Church USA to
support young adult volunteers, ministries for youth, and child advocacy, at a national level.
In 2014, the Mission Team has determined that the 40% portion of the Pentecost offering will go to
La Paz House and the Hillcrest
Transitional Housing youth
enrichment program.
La Paz House is a safe after-school
hang-out for students located at the
Grandview Park Presbyterian
Church in Kansas City, Kansas. The
program offers tutoring in math and
reading along with homework help.
The Hillcrest youth enrichment
program provides tutors and child
care to children while their parents
attend Hillcrest adult life skills
training classes. The program also
helps pay for books, fees for sports
teams, YMCA activities and
summer camps, for 33 children &
youth currently living in Platte Co.
Hillcrest housing. The average age
of a homeless person in Missouri is
7 years old.
“This is your homeless mission.”
- Donice Yeater, Director Hillcrest
Transitional Housing, Platte County
Please consider giving
generously when Parkville
Presbyterian Church collects the
Pentecost offering on Sunday,
June 8th. Call Doug Gardner with
questions at 816-678-5176.

And a child shall lead them
This past Sunday, in the 11 o’clock worship service, I had an experience that I wish everyone of the congre-gation could have had. Being in the choir, I can see the reactions of the congregants to all the components of our worship services. While we were singing “Did You Hear the Mountains Tremble,” our song of sending at the end of the service, I saw Anna Davis in her dad-dy’s arms having an amazing time with what appeared to me to be all of who she was. She was smiling—even laughing, holding her hands up high, looking up, clapping, and moving her body (as best she could) to the rhythm of the music. Her face looked so happy, even glowing. It was beautiful. At first, I wondered
what I was seeing; was she just caught up in the ex-citement of the music—after all it was a very jubilant song. But as I scanned the congregation and saw child after child doing similar behaviors, and saw their fac-es glowing and their eyes shining with joy, I realized all these children were worshiping God. It brought tears of joy to my eyes and sent shivers down my back. The scripture in Isaiah 11:6 immediately came to my mind: “…and a child shall lead them.”
We are such a blessed congregation and we serve such an Awesome God! May we all have the faith of
our children and the freedom to express our love
for God with abandon, as our children did in wor-
ship this week. — Jan Myers
