As part of the induction, the fifty year graduates from 1960 welcomed the young men by giving them their alumni pin.

On May 7th Blaine MaMahon ’54 from Fayetteville, AR and Alumni Director, Jimmy Dykes ’61, organized a luncheon at Gallagher’s Restaurant for alumni from the class of ’54. Gordon Bitterwolf ’54 presented the class with handmade shirts. Jimmy Dykes also presented the alums with Saint Paul’s shirts. A tour of the campus followed the luncheon and a good time was had by all.

…… What a Great 2009 -’10 School Year ! With the close of the 2009-’10 school year, I’d like to thank our officers, executive board and alumni for their hard work and enthusiastic support. In particular, I’d like to give special recognition to Matt Hardey ’69, outgoing president, for his leadership. As I’ve mentioned in the past, Matt took us to a new level and has set the stage for great things for the Association as we move forward together. Special recognition as well to our committee heads : Don Lagarde ’78 Golf Tournament; Bob Pecunia ’61 Ozone Spring Run ; Brett Freret ’91 Crawfish Cook-Off and Don Celestin ’79 Fishing Rodeo. As we prepare for the 20010-’11 school year, we will be focused on the following over the summer months : •Finalizing our Mentoring Program. This program will have certain designated students assigned to an alum for mentoring purposes. •Improving our web site. •Establishing a data base of alumni and their professions. •Continuing to collect contact information of our alums. •Developing a new program ….”Making A Difference”. We were informed last week that Saint Paul’s was named a beneficiary of the late Dr. Louis Gallo’s estate. We will receive approximately $25,000. Dr. Gallo was a good friend of the school and the Christian Brothers, and we are most grateful that he remembered us in his will. Dr. Gallo’s son, Barry, is a 1973 alumnus of SPS and his grandson, Austin Frosch, is currently a sophomore. We are humbled by Dr. Gallo’s faith in us. We offer prayers of gratitude as he enjoys eternal life after an earthly life of service and faith!

Class of 1984: Jamie Moll is currently the Vice President/General Manager of Mercedes-Benz of New Orleans in Metairie, LA. Jamie has been with them for twenty years. Jamie lives in Covington with his wife, Kat and their two daughters Ella Louise (7 years old) and Lilly Mae (3 years old).

Class of 1993: Brook Sutton is a professional musician (bass) and works for Tennessee State University as a music professor and instruction designer for the Distance Education program. He is married to Susan Verberne-Sutton in 2004 and they are expecting their first child, Chloe, in July.

Class of 1997: R. Matthew Barnes graduated from Indiana University with a PhD in Anatomy.

Class of 2002: M. Damian Marinello graduated from Loyola University School of Law with a Juris Doctorate.

Class of 2003: Blake Mogabgab graduated from Tulane University School of Law with a Juris Doctorate.

Class of 2004: Teddy Boone graduated from DePaul with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in acting.

Class of 2005: Alex Ackal graduated from Loyola University New Orleans with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Philosophy.

Class of 2005: Nick Marinello graduated from LSU with a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering.

Class of 2006: Sean Bennett graduated from Loyola University New Orleans with a Bachelor of Business Administration in Management.

Class of 2006: Tyler Crosby received the nationally competitive Goldwater Scholarship, one of only 278 scholarships for the 2010-11 academic year to sophomores and juniors in the United States. Tyler plans to graduate from LSU in May 2011 with a degree in biological engineering.

Valedictorian, Eric Frances Salutatorian, Alejandro Otero

Saint Paul’s School honored the class of 2010 with the traditional commencement ceremony on Sunday, May 16, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. in the Student Center. One hundred sixty students received diplomas from Brother Raymond Bulliard, FSC, Principal of Saint Paul’s School at the graduation mass celebrated by Reverend Matthew Clark, OSB, with the assistance of Reverend John Gray Schexnayder, and Deacons Steve Ferran and Nelvin Luke. Mr. Trevor Watkins, Assistant Principal, served as Master of Ceremonies, while Dean of Students, Mr. Ken Sears, and Senior Guidance Counselor, Mrs. Renee Miller, assisted with awards and diploma presentations. Brother Ken Boesch, FSC served as the organist for the ninety-ninth graduation ceremony. The Mothers’ Club sponsored an outdoor reception on campus following the ceremony. The class of ‘10 boasts four National Merit Scholarship Finalist: E J Hummel, Michael Johnston, Brett Livaudais, and Morgan Wells, and two National Merit Commended Scholars, Alexander Levy and Jeffrey LeBlanc. Two students received recognition as National Hispanic Scholars: Alejandro Otero and Adam Vanek. Six students garnered appointments to national military academies: Peter Chatry, United States Naval Academy; Richard Green United States Military Academy at West Point; Max Morse, United States Merchant Marine Academy; Jeffrey LeBlance, United States Air Force Academy and Dylan Hamel and Will Short, Maritime Transportation at Texas A&M. Corey Cook will attend Berkleee College of Music and Kameron Lopreore will attend Loyola of New Orleans on a Vocal Performance Scholarship. Seven seniors will attend colleges and universities on scholarships that will allow them to continue their athletic careers: Colin Babcock will swim at Notre Dame, Houston Bates will play football at the University of Illinois, Casey D’Angelo will play football at Mississippi College, Julien Lamothe will play football at Occidental in California, Matt Mouton and Jake Saltalamacchia will attend Southeastern Louisiana University, Matt will run cross country and track, Jake will play football, and John Woodard will play tennis at Louisiana State University.

Eric Paul Frances has been a member of the Varsity Tennis Team, National Honor Society, Mu Alpha Theta and Big Brothers. He was a Eucharistic minister for the 2009-10 school year. He received the Saint LaSalle Award and Brother Alfred Award for outstanding service. He has earned the Superior Academic Award, The Gold P, and The Golden Torch. He has represented the school in both the District and State Literary Rally, and in Regional Foreign Language Festivals. He will attend Louisiana State University Honors College on the Louisiana State University Alumni Association Top 100 Scholarship and major in Kinesiology.

Alejandro Otero was a member of the Varsity Football Team earning All District, and All State honors for his work on the field. He was also selected as a Scholar Athlete of the Week, and a member of the Composite Academic All State team. He was a member of Mu Alpha Theta, National Honor Society, Big Brothers, Lasallian Youth and Quiz Bowl. He was awarded the Gold P, Brother Alfred Award for outstanding service, both Superior Academic and Achievement Awards, as well as the C.L. Marcotte Award for the best scholar/athlete. He has represented the school in both District and State Literary Rally, and Regional Foreign Language Festival. He will attend Auburn University and major in Chemical Engineering. He is the recipient of both the Presidential and a Chemical Engineering Freshman Departmental Scholarship from Auburn.

Saint Paul’s Mother’s Club

The Mothers' Club, through its numerous committees, was responsible for coordinating many of the on-campus activites. Our volunteers spent countless hours this year working hard to make each event a success! From transforming the cafeteria into a beautiful tea room for our new moms to providing a quick snack for our boys, the Mothers' Club was always there. Besides being event planners, through the efforts of our awesome Bookstore Volunteers, we were able to raise enough money to help send a group of students to California for the Lasallian Student Leaders Conference, provide necessary video equipment for the Guerilla Wolves, purchase new software programs for the Computer Science department, a new Spanish program, a new camera for Public Relations, and a banner for the swim team, just to mention a few of the many ways the Mothers' Club has supported the mission of Saint John Baptist de La Salle. Saint Paul’s AFJROTC Banquet April 22, 2010

On April 22, the Saint Paul’s Corps of Cadets held its annual military awards banquet. This followed the Change-of-Command Ceremony held the day before on Hunter Field. Numerous national organizations were present to award cadets who met the specific criteria for the unique awards. Along with these guests were some special visitors: U.S. Army Captain Andre Jeansonne ’93, who flew the helicopter over the Change-of-Command Ceremony; and our guest speaker, Mr. Garrett O’Brien ‘03 and currently a seminarian at the Notre Dame Seminary in New Orleans. Mr. O’Brien spoke about the meaning of true manhood in today’s world. Besides the national awards, the top flight of the year was announced. “A” Flight, commanded by Michael Golden, ’10, was the top flight; it also garnered first place for drill and sports. The Spirit of the Wolf Award went to senior cadet Mark Caragliano. Although a first year cadet, Mark volunteered for just about everything as he learned JROTC, and was an inspiration to the rest of the Corps of Cadets. Article by Colonel Joe Reich

Saint Paul’s Academic Awards May 13, 2010

Saint Paul’s School held their end of year Academic Awards ceremony in the Student Center recently. Students in grades nine through twelve were presented with prizes for a number of academic achievements including course work, academic contests, regional and state science and social studies fairs. Mr. Trevor Watkins, Assistant Principal, served as Master of Ceremonies for the event, while Brother Kenneth Boesch, FSC provided music for the evening. Campus Minister, Charles Legendre began the ceremony with an opening prayer, and then Colonel Joseph Reich led the audience and faculty in the Pledge of Allegiance. Special awards and scholarships were presented to a number of students who have performed outstanding work, or earned special recognition. Mr. Ken Sears, Dean of Students, presented Bruce Silva and Charles Keller with medals for five years of perfect attendance. Sean Karpa, Alec Patel, and Adam Vanek received medals for four years perfect attendance. Mrs. Renee Miller, Senior Guidance Counselor presented National Merit Recognitions to: E. J. Hummel, Michael Johnston, Brett Livaudais, and Morgan Wells. Alejandro Otero and Adam Vanek were recognized as National Hispanic Scholars. Elliott Thompson earned the Walker Percy Scholarship presented by English Department Chair Karen Hebert. Andre LeBlanc, moderator for the Varsity Quiz Bowl, presented Beau Gambel with the Quiz Bowl Captain’s Award. Jim Robertson, Science Department Chair, presented Jeffrey LeBlanc with the Al Doskey Award for Achievement in science, and Pam Cullen, Math Department Chair, presented E.J. Hummel with the Jan Newmann Award for achievement in math. Mrs. Liz Brett, Modern Language Chair, presented Juan Amaya with an award for achievement in the study of languages. Christopher Barr received the Public Relations Award for his work as the Times Picayune Columnist, presented by Karen Hebert. Mrs. Linda Abbott presented Beau Gambel with the Daughters of American Revolution Award for his pursuit of knowledge of American History. Evan Johnson, a graduate of 2009, returned to present the “Making a Difference” award to Ryan Zeringue for his outstanding service to the community. This award is sponsored by the Al and Diane Kramer Foundation. Richard Pichon presented the “Francis A. Richard Habitat for Humanity Award” to Andrew Mullet for his continuing dedication to the Saint Paul’s Chapter of the organization. Mr. Michael Peats of the American Legion presented a scholarship to Christopher Barr. Brother Raymond Bulliard, FSC, Principal of Saint Paul’s presented The Chosen Path Scholarship to Austin Hummel. Mr. George Boudreaux presented The Darren Boudreaux Scholarship to Beau Gambel, who exemplifies the values instilled by Saint Paul’s. Mrs. Jane Kolb presented the Eric Kolb Scholarship to Adam Grashoff, for achievements in music and computers. Brother Raymond Bulliard, FSC, presented the Valedictorian, Eric Frances, and Salutatorian, Alejandro Otero, with medals to honor their work. He continued the program by presenting the Superior Academic Medals to those students with the highest grade point averages for the year. Casey Spinelli, James Robinson, Harrison Richard, Alexander Sibley, Nathaniel Frank and Brett Livaudais earned silver medals. Robert Bayer, David Englehardt, Kenneth Garraway, Nathan Grotte, Logan Sellers, Shawn-Wesley Skinner, Elliott Thompson, Eric Frances, Michael Johnston and Aljendro Otero earned gold medals on their levels. Brother Ray presented the highest awards the school gives to honor those students who achieve academically and have great participation in the extracurricular activities offered on campus. Earning silver medals for Superior Achievement were: Robert Bayer, Ryan Martin, Andrew Mullet, Shawn Wesley Skinner, Connor Rougelot, Alexander Sibley, Nathaniel Frank, Alexander Levy and Alejandro Otero. Science instructor, junior level chair, and football coach Lee Pierre was the recipient of the Brother Charles Crouzet Award (Teacher of the Year) for his outstanding dedication to his students and to his school. Saint Paul's School is pleased to announce that Sean Karpa, Charles Keller, Alec Patel, Bruce Silva, and Adam Vanek are the recipients of the Louis Ross Memorial Scholarship for the 2009-2010 school year. The Directors of Citizens Bank and Trust Company generously fund this scholarship in memory of Louis D. Ross a founder of the bank and a graduate of Saint Paul's in 1924. Mr. Ross was a great community activist and a true demonstration of the high ideals for which Saint Paul's stands. The scholarship winners are chosen not only for their academic ability but also for their diligence, and devotion to the Lasallian principals.

Saint Paul’s Athletic Awards May 12, 2010

Saint Paul’s School held a final athletic awards ceremony to end the 2009-2010 school year. The program spent time remembering the highlights of the competitions of the fourteen sports played. Athletic Director, Craig Ketelsen, opened the program with a prayer, and Colonel Joseph Reich led the Pledge of Allegiance. Ketelsen went on to thank the administration, faculty, coaches, and parents for the success the school experienced “on the fields and floor.” He recognized the seven varsity teams who earned district or regional championships this year including: cross country, football, swimming, soccer (co-district champions), wrestling, golf, and tennis.

Ken Sears was recognized for being name “Coach of the Year” for District 7 5A in football, and Craig Ketelsen for being selected “Coach of the Year” in Wrestling District 7 5A. Alfred Johnson, Mickey Johnson, Korey Miller and Collin Babcock were recognized for being State Champions in their respective sports. Korey is a two time Wrestling State Champion and Colin Babcock was not only a State Champion but also an All- American. The program continued with recognition of the major award winners on both the junior high and high school level. The Junior High Student Athlete Award was presented by Luke Barwick, golf coach, and Alejandro Otero, 2007 winner of the award. Brandon Pierce, who participates in golf and swimming and is an honor student, won the award. The Junior High Dedication Award was presented by Josh Harrelson, football coach, and Bryan Bowers, winner of the award in 2007, to Justin Elzy who participates in football, basketball, and baseball, and is also an honor student. The “Scott Dottolo Award” for the outstanding athlete on the junior high level was presented by Phil Williams, basketball coach, to Patrick West who participates in football, basketball, and baseball and is an honor student. The highest awards on the varsity level were also presented. The Jason Whittle Memorial Award presented to students who demonstrate selflessness, positive attitude and respect for teammates was presented by football coaches Anthony Taffaro and Lee Pierre, to Patrick Vinson and Mark Caragliano. The C. L. Marcotte Award for the best scholar athlete was presented by football coaches, Joe Dickens and Lee Pierre to four year letterman, Alejandro Otero, who maintains a 4.5 grade point average, and was selected, to the All State Composite Academic Football Team. The Eddie Polk Memorial Award for dedication, sportsmanship and commitment to the Lasallian principles was presented by Bobby Thomas, track coach and Lee Pierre to seniors Julien Lamothe and Matt Mouton, both who will continue athletic activities in college. The Jimmy Dunn Award for the best all around athlete was presented by Craig Ketelsen, Athletic Director, and Lee Pierre to High School All-American Colin Babcock. Danielle Lavie …. Publisher of Wolf Tracks Day after day, Jimmy Dykes ’61, Alumni Director, receives accolades from alums about the new format of Wolf Tracks. To summarize the accolades, John Curren ’91, President of the Alumni Association says, “The current format of Wolf Tracks could easily win a contest for the most professional school newsletter in the country.” So who’s responsible for this ….Danielle Lavie, Administrative Assistant of the Development Department. Danielle has served as Assistant to Brother Gale Condit, FSC, Vice Principal of Development for the past five years. She has also assisted Jimmy Dykes, Alumni Director for the past two years. Danielle has a Bachelor of Science Degree in Computer and Information Systems from Tulane University. She worked in the Information Technology Department of Entergy Corporation for twenty years before joining Saint Paul’s in August of 2005. Danielle took over the publication of Wolf Tracks this past February. Dykes says, “On behalf of all alumni, parents and friends of Saint Paul’s, your gift for producing such a wonderful newsletter is appreciated by all.”
